I always look forward to your videos! They are no nonsense and no fluff. I really like those videos that are about the 7.5X55 and all the rifles that shoot it. My current K31 is a thing of beauty, it sits in a rack with other rifles which it competes with for accuracy but the others do not compare in quality of workmanship, design. Please make more of these! Ken
Thanks for the feedback Kenneth, glad you like the video. It's hard to beat these Swiss rifles for all around function and accuracy. They are superbly manufactured and were well looked after by the citizen soldiers who were issued with them.
Love your K11. I have one But it was rechambered to 308 by Golden State Importers. With my loads using Hornady A max 165 grain I got a 1.5 inch group at 75 yds. Just haven't went to 100 yet. Really enjoy your channel👍👍
@@scottmorgan1016 A new barrel would make more sense. Are there any other alterations that you can see? Any modifications to the bolt head for example?
@@314299 I don't notice any other changes to bolt head. I had some 7.5 Swiss rounds when I got the rifle. The bolt fit that round but would not chamber
Hey dude, Berdan Primers are hard to get nowadays, however, you can find them if you look hard enough, it used to be that they were widely available in Canada, but Idk what the situation is now. the brass that the 7.5x55 is constructed of is fully reloadable (If you have Berdan primers), you also have to make sure that you get them in the right size, it's not as easy as a boxer where you have the large and small type for Pistol and Rifle. it is a shame that the brass is such good quality with the GP11, well made, in some, better made than what is available as empty brass here made just for reloading. I wish that companies here in the US would go back to stocking Berdan primers. anyway, chewed your ear too much already, -Dave
@@Thorsaxe777 I'm pretty sure the GP-11 brass uses the LR - KV-7,62NATO Berdan primer. The source of Berdan primers that were most recently available several years ago came from Russian, the company that mfg. them is currently on the banned from importation list by the US Government. For 7,62 NATO cartridges
The GP11 brass is very nice for reloading. I have some RUAG 5620 Berdan primers that I've been using with excellent results in the GP11 brass. I've also used some Russian made Berdan primers that will fit the cases but are too mild for use with standard loads but they work with cast bullets and bulky and easy to light shotgun powders like 700x or Red Dot.
Good video. I'm in the midst of a dilemna : in my club two fellow shooters sell their milsurp rifle : an Italian 1943 Carcano modello 38 per cavalleria for 370€ and a Swiss Schmidt Rubin K11 of 1917 for 385€ (it's in € i'm in Europe, and I know milsurp rifles here are way more expensive than in the US market). I'm not rich and can't afford to buy both, Which one would you buy ?
I would pick the K11 without hesitation. The K11 is a much nicer rifle to shoot, more accurate and there is a much better and larger selection of projectiles for it than there is for the Carcano, As for price 385€ converts at todays rate to about $556 Canadian dollars, which is a decent price for a K11 here in Canada.
As you said, Not as accurate with the GP11, those chambers were cut when the swiss were still engineering the whole platform of the rifle and chamber/ throat cartridge length dimensions, although I do not own a K-11 I believe that Improvement could be achieved with bullet seating with handcrafted ammo. Haha, all part of the sticky tangled web we walk into as firearms enthusiasts. I like the quality they put into the overall parts over the K-31 on the K-11. craftmanship. Good video -Dave
The chamber dimensions of this K11 are certainly different than those of my K31, cases fired in this K11 won't even come close to going into the K31. Since I neck size the brass I'll be segregating the brass to the rifle it came out of. As regards the relative accuracy of the K11 vs the K31, I think there are a couple of things going on. The first is the long rather flexible receiver of the K11, the second is the improved quality and consistency of the K31 barrel. Either rifle was an accurate military arm for it's time.
Very nice rifle! When you buy these old(er) rifles, do you borescope them or just take pot luck? Would definitely be interesting to see what good quality handloads do at 100 meters and beyond. Good luck & enjoy your new acquisition!
I don't have a borescope. Also this rifle was purchased on-line and sent to me by mail so I could not inspect it in person, I was relying on the sellers description, which turned out to be pretty good.
I have two K11’s, I sold a K31 to get the second one. I didn’t notice any difference in accuracy between them. My second K11 is a privately owned gun that never saw military service . Either rifle is as good as I am on that day . They either make you look really good or pretty bad , lol .
Hey buddy how are ya? I love your channel. I don’t shoot as much as I want, too busy.im hoping once I get my new place squared away I’ll be able to go shoot. Currently the national forest is closed do to fire danger. So may not be able to go deer hunting this year? I would like to at least get some practice in. I love my k31 I’m thinking of getting a Hammond game getter for it, just to plunk out back. I guess I could maybe down load some lead reloads to. Thanks for sharing and taking us to the range. Your k11 is in very good shape. I love old battle rifles
It's hard to beat the K31 for an accurate surplus rifle. A Hammond game getter would be an interesting addition to your options as to how and where you could use your K31.
Is it just me but I feel any milsurp rifle that will put al rounds in a 6” group at battle range should be considered a good rifle. I constantly hear folks put down their rifle when it is hitting 21/2” at 100 yards iron sight. Do I expect to little from the old girls?
From my experience most surplus rifles will shoot 4" to 5" groups for five shots at 100 yards (with surplus ammo), however my experience with the Swiss rifles and ammo have spoiled me a bit as I expect 2" groups from those.
My favorite Swiss model rifle. The k31 is not as smooth. The two bolts look completely different. The k31 looks so much more refined. But no. Not as smooth and k31 has a longer stroke. Love the all Swiss rifles.
@@314299 Ya for sure. The k31 is superior in some ways but not as good in other ways. I think the old guy did it pretty well enough at that time of k11. Love Swiss rifles for sure. Well... In short... Love all rifles;-) Thanks for the response Sean
These rifles are not really far off the k-31 for accuracy. Shooting at the bottom of of a black circle is no test. My 1916 & 1932 K-11’s shoot a lot better than yours but we can’t determine much here.

I love my K11, a great hunting rifle on top of an accurate target rifle.
A little heavy compared to a "proper" hunting rifle but they will certainly do the job.
I missed out on one of these and am looking still. I wont snooze next time if it is any kind of shape. Great video.

The only ones I've seen as of late are the high priced ones.

Some folks don't like the stamped operating rod of the K31, preferring the forged and machined one of the K11.

It has it's share of dings and wear but for such an old rifle it's in decent shape, no cracks in the stock and an excellent condition barrel.
