  • An updated and more efficient design of a sour gas boiler that uses lower temperature materials. We now have a use for Sulfur in the Spaced Out Oxygen Not Included DLC. However, currently, I am limited to steel as my high-temperature material. So just how effective is it to make a Sour Gas Boiler from lower-tier materials? For much more about Sour Gas Boilers and other free energy tricks here is a playlist: • Free Energy Petroleum,...

    I tried to tame a sulfur geyser by letting the sulfur spill onto diamond tiles cooled by radiant liquid pipes running ethanol (target temperature of -100 degrees) but the single aquatuner I had running the loop didn't seem to be able to remove more heat than the geyser could add, so it eventually went wrong

    Looking at this system with the notches to caprure the natural Gass, What would happen in on the "cooler Side" the bottom half dropped a couple of tile and enlarge the Sour gas channel by one tile. Keep a 3 tile high path at the entry and expand it to 4 tile to allow the gas mechanics to route the Natural gass to a gas Pump. That gas line meets up with the other natural gas lines.
    Maybe add 2 thermal regulators to the end. so that the methane stays liquid for the mini pumps

    I remember back before super coolant people would use liquid oxygen through aqua tuners for more cooling. Would that work better than hydrogen in this setup? You would need another transfer section since liquid oxygen would be colder than you need for methane. The heat capacity is only 1.01 but you are moving a lot more though it.

    • @judas1337
      @judas1337 3 роки тому +2

      I too have been thinking about this since the last video.
      For safety, simplicity and probably also energy efficiency I would go with Regulators and hydrogen.
      Pros:
      1 aquatuner takes up less space than 4 regulators
      Liquid Reservoir takes up less space than a Gas Reservoir and also stores a lot more
      1 pipe packet of liquid oxygen can hold 10.1 kDTU/C (1.01 (DTU/g)/C * 10 kg) instead of just 2.4 kDTU (2.4 (DTU/g)/C * 1 kg) for 1 pipe of hydrogen. Haninge a larger capacity for transferring more DTUs per tick.
      1 Aquatuner removes more DTUs per tick than 4 Regulators. 141.4 kDTU/tick (14 C * 1.01 (DTU/g)/C * 10 kg) for liquid oxygen compared to 134.4 kDTU/tick (4*14 C * 2.4 (DTU/g)/C * 1 kg) for hydrogen.
      Cons:
      1 Aquatuner is more expensive to run than 4 Regulators. 1200 W for 141.4 kDTU which is ~8.49 W/kDTU. Regulators remove 134.4 kDTU at the cost of 960 W (4 * 240 W) which is ~7.14 W/kDTU.
      Liquid oxygen has a temperature range of ~36 C. The lower 14 you might not be able to use due to risk of pipe damage, leaving 22 C. 1 packet thus has a total capacity of 222.2 kDTU (22 C * 1.01 (DTU/g)/C * 10 kg) before pipe breakage which is enough to transfer 117 C from 1 kg of sour gas ( 222.2 kDTU / 1.898 (DTU/g)/C ). This might be good enough but it’s strictly harder than hydrogen for which you do not have to care about pipes breaking.
      You would also need the Regulator setup to create the first batch of liquid oxygen. Thus taking up more space and also forcing you to use more of your own life to create another system apart from the actual system you’re interested in.

      I've condensed methane from 1kg/s sour gas with only 3 thermo regulators. There's a video on UA-cam doing it with 4. It gets down to 3 if you also use the sulfur to cool the sour gas. I ended up with 80C sulfur and natural gas.

    if you was to be stacking those thermal regulators and then coming in the bottom one and each one above it cools it further that would keep the counter flow thing going in the heat exchange, the bottom ones stay the hottest point of that part of the system which will make it fire up faster and keep that steam at temperature. 3 high by 3 wide should make it as efficient as possible, you was rarely firing up the last one anyway

  • @commonsense-og1gz
    @commonsense-og1gz 3 роки тому

    brothgar, you should build a vertical stack, and run your regulators in parallel, instead of a chain. if used in a gearhead gaming arrangement, you can reduce the regulator use down to 4.

    Nice videos Brothgar. I designed a boiler that can process 1000g/s of sour gas with approx 4.5kW power profit. Just a little steel and ceramic is needed to build it, the rest is cheap stuff. It uses very little heat because most of it is recycled infinitely. I call it "Bionic boiler" because I stole the idea from Crane's blood vessel heat exchange system :)
    I can send you the save file to show it if you want.

    I hate the neutronium tiles to generate underneath volcanoes. The only good thing is allowing us to find them, but it is easy with a location of characteristic pattern of granite and obsidian tiles to find hidden volcanoes. You are in sandbox mode, pause the game and use destroy on those tiles to get rid of them.

    Hey Brothgar, nice tune up of the sour gas boiler. But this was tested under 100% heat stress. on a landing pad you would cycle the heat on periodically. will this change your result? no matter how you look at it the machine is more efficient. But how does that work in real game scenario? Looking forward to see you build it!

    you could save a little power just turning on the autosweeper for 30 seconds a cycle, that way it does a fair load at once not constantly active, moving the output from the steam generator might make it a little more efficient, you are cooling down the main heat input this way no?

    22:25 If you're running the natural gas through the start of the system where crude oil is heated into sour gas, aren't you just stealing heat? Its going to take longer and take more heat to push that oil into sour gas if you're cooling the start like that. I think the natural gas pipe should absorb that heat a little bit higher up. Correct me if I'm wrong, though. I've never attempted something like this myself.

    The natural gas problem would likely go away if your hydrogen cooling on each branch started with one metal tile each under the pumps. The problem is you have a little heating at the pumps that turns some of it back into gas. If the liquid methane landed on a cold plate instead it wouldn't get that chance to reheat. (This would also be one spot where the two hydrogen loops could even out with each other). Hope I explained that well enough. It's hard to do without pictures.

    double regulators, double your input pressure, double the amount of sulfur you get. although, i suppose getting sulfur this way is kinda pointless now.
    you could daisy chain doors to "push" the gas around. if you didn't want to have insane gas pressures, this would also give a more stable temp gradient.
    far more complex though.... =/

    This is not at all more efficient. It is like just using some turbines to cool the sour gas and not heat up the oil, see a huge bump on energy generated and say it is more eficient.
    To be more efficient you want most of the energy from the sour gas being used to heat the oil.
    I think the reason is that the natural gas heat is not being deleted but transfered to the water vapor on the chamber.
