James Brown - Get On The Good Foot

- "Get on the Good Foot" is a funk song performed by James Brown. It was released in 1972 as a two-part single that charted #1 R&B and #18 Pop.[1][2] It also appeared on an album of the same name released that year. Partly due to the unwillingness of Brown's record labels to certify sales of his previous hits, "Get on the Good Foot" was his first gold record.[3] Billboard ranked it as the No. 99 song for 1972.[4]

Lyrics:
Can't pass the people, can't pass the, hit me
Ooh, get on down like
Uh, I wanna get on the good foot
Ho, good foot, I got to get on the good foot, ah
Going down to the crib, let all hang out
Where soulful people knows, what it's about, ah
Going down to the crib and let it all hang out, ah
Where soulful people knows, what it's about, ah
Where people do the sign and take your hands, ah
And dancin' to the music James Brown Band
They're dancing on the good foot
I got to get on the good foot
Got to do it on the good foot
Do it with the good foot
Said the long hair hippies and the Afro blacks
They all get together across the tracks
And they party
Ho, on the good foot
You know they dance on the good foot
Dance on the good foot
Ain't nothing goin' on now but the rent, ah
A whole lotta bills and my money's spent
And that's on my bad foot, whoa, uh
You know my face gettin' short and I got the blues
I got a funky job and I paid my dues on the good foot
Ho, on the good foot
I got to get on the good foot
Hey, on the good foot
Get on the good foot, come over
Hit it there, you got to, get it, get it
Sharper now, uh
Come on, get it, ah, huh
On the good foot
On the good foot
Ho, on the good foot
Get on the good foot
On the good foot
On the good foot
Ho, get on the good foot
On the good foot
Get it there, get it there
Ho, now bass, play on it now
Come on, get it, ah, get it
Get on the good foot
Ooh, I got to get on the good foot
Ooh, get on the good foot, ho
Take care of business, sister, I'm your fella
My cousin Robert “Chopper” McCullough on saxophone 😍it’s very hard to find footage of my family member. James Brown #thegoat
He was killing it ❤
Very cool.
Parliament/Funkadelic, Kool & The Gang, Sly & The Family Stone, Earth, Wind & Fire, Ohio Players, Cameo, Slave and Prince must bow down to the progenitor of Funk: James Brown.
The Originator.
..
😅no Doubt 4 Real
Facts!!!!!
Absolutely! The Man opened up the doors 🚪 for ALL of these performers to perform when they wanted to cut loose from the norm! 👊🏾 You go ‘head on and take your rest, Mr. Brown. 🙏🏾
Yah!
I sure wish one of the dancers from the clip would comment on here and talk about the experience being there on this historic taping.
Look for "tales from the bus" boost talk's about James Brown a lot
James Brown is the greatest entertainer of all times... His music is timeless...every generation has embraced his music..I will always love the God Father of Soul Music ❤️
DAMN RIGHT he was and still is.
Yessssss!!! 🙌🧡
you got the point :)
Its between him and Michael but without a James brown we probably wouldn't have a Michael so u might be right lol
@@desmondred6460Yeah James inspired Michael, Michael idolized James and he studied James and Michael learned from him as well so you're right if there wasn't a James Brown, there wouldn't be a Michael Jackson
This is still so funky. Just stankin.
James Brown was the house… But the James Brown Band is the foundation…. Y’ALL DIG ✝️💯☮️🙏✝️
Exactly they was on point 🎉
I definitely dig
I never get tired of listening to James Brown music
Me neither.
Same🔥💃
I'd in UI uttyh
But in vain Vic UVk
Sameeeee!
5:48 How does a nearly 40 year old man in platform boots do a drop down split on stage and pop back up onto his own two feet without his hands touching the floor? I can't even begin to imagine the leg strength involved to perform such a move. And does it in time with the music! Amazing!
Crack cocaine helps but proper performance
That's because it's a godfather
Ohh give me a break….James Brown was a phenomenal singer and dancer and an all round performer extraordinaire. He was a class apart. And he was naturally gifted. Nothing to do with drugs.
J.B. ? Hmmm
He's smarter than you think
Just pure cocaine back then...before crack! Also good genetics!!!
Notice James is playing LIVE here ! His integrity is strong!
Yes the band has no mics.
Exactly 💯
@@gregsz1ful Nope, one mic is picking up the entire band. The sax section has a mic And james mic. But this is clearly LIVE.
His Rap is strong soul brother number 1!
That band is not messing around. Not a single note is out of place.
When music was soo Good..
The one the only James Brown! No one can even come close!
Exactly 💯
One thing is for certain, music is not made like that anymore, nor is it performed like that anymore!
RIP Mr. Brown!!!
James Brown, The JBs, The Dancer’s, we’ll never see anything like this again. Superb! James Brown and the JBs will never be touched, Ever! Respect!
That transition from "Goodfoot" to "Soul Power" was smooth as silk.
It was so cold!
It had to be. James was notorious for fining the bands for every mistake.
Look at THE BROTHA!!!! No lip sync for THIS MAN’S appearance on Don’s Train!!! And he RIPPED IT better than many of the others who yielded to Don’s non-live standard. 🤴🏿👑🤴🏿
No recorded music always real. Unmatched and his music sampled by everybody today. What that tell ya?
GODFATHER 🔥
Boy that crowd getting their boogie on!!!! Lol 😂
Brandon Williams Yaasssssss they did!!!
Damn right!! Soul Train gang always get on down and boogie!!
🎷💃🏻✨🕺🏼🎺🎶
I’m betting/ hoping it was nice and LOUD.😀🕺🏽
I know, thats why I love Soul Train.
What’s so scary is this is live! No lip sync.
Not for Soul Brother #1!
Ya, but dont' confuse scary -For what's Real. Todays bunch aint got much lunch.Time.
I spoke with a few of his old band members...James didn't play with anyone messing up either...they were DAMN TIGHT.
this is one of the GREATEST 7 minuets, I've ever seen.
This is one of the best two or three moments ever on Soul Train, if not the all-time best.
The transition at 2:40 sends this to another level. I vividly remember this playing on that Saturday on Soul Train. I thought (and still think) the swinging horns is one of the coolest music moves I have ever seen.
No one rocks in a studio setting like this anymore…
When the beat drops its hard. You usually have to wait for the song, but not with JB, insta fire.
I can replay this a thousand times
Call the law
In the 70ies all my shoes got wore out listing to james brown
😂
I can relate to that. My shoes had same fate after watching Rock Steady Crews in 80's and trying to be one of them. 😊
The funkiest mother whoever walked the planet!
Eooooow, get down!
Yes the GODFATHER 🎼🔥🤗
You got that right!!!!!!
The bass man needs a knighthood, he puts the F in funk ………….
Absolutely brilliant 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵

The Legendary James Brown NEVER DIES. JAMES BROWN IS SOUL MUSIC.
Exactly Michael Jackson idol 🎉
@@keepmoving2023-ku7nbDAM STRAIGHT, HE AND MIKE ARE TIMELESS.
If you look up "synchronized" the dictionary should just bring up this video. That band is like a finely oiled machine. Amazing and legendary.
This band had talent that's off the charts.

😍❗《SIGNATURE》💚*🙏🏼
Love the trumpet players
@@3kingkool Yes, me too. Mr. Brown could get it together.
The J.B.s
I used to play trumpet I only wish I could play in this beat...mans a legend
Mick Jagger owes most of his stage presence to JB. But he can't hold a candle to a live JB.
We must give credit to the band. They are musical geniuses. Mr. Brown is the King of R & B and Soul. The baddest man on the planet with so much soul. 😎 😎 R.I.P to the God Father.
@SS, fantastic horn section.
Band was tight!!
@@MaxCruise73
Yes they were the baddest band during that era. Black musicians need to make a strong comeback. R.I.P to JB and all of the band members who are no longer here.
Not only did Mr Brown invent funk, he invented the WORD!
In my opinion, all soul, RnB, hip hop, rap, funk and many many pop performers should give thanks and pay homage to the Godfather of Funk ; they would be nothing without JB
JAMES BROWN GETS ALL RESPECT IN MUSIC.
It just defies the laws of physics that the funk never stops escalating
When being black was funky!
FACTS!!!😂💜💕
Amazing performance. Such energy. 😎
you prolly dont care but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all of the new movies on instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my brother for the last weeks =)
@Keagan Quinton Yea, I've been using instaflixxer for since december myself :D
The hardest working man in show business!!! James Brown was the king of soul!! ❤
James Brown was the baddest soul brother #1
You can see the fear in all the musicians posture and looks because JB was such a bossy boss :D
True, but listen to how tight they are, and they turn on a dime. This was a great lineup.
True that
Look how easy and casual he made that look, insanely super talented, literally like GOD with dance moves 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Genius! Few artists have the voice and stage presence he had.
Michael jackson.
George Michael the best of them all
@@kevinortiz602 Yeah funny how people underestimate his vocal abilities,
james brown look like he will slap fire! out ya ass for talking smack back in the day lol
The trumpet players are really cool.
This is too funky for it to be free!!!!
Listening to this February 2023.. there will never be another entertainer like james Brown listen to him everyday God father of funk, soul and dsnc. The hardest working man in show buisness ever.
One of the greatest artists this country produced. RIP James!
Better than a Good cup of coffee to get your ass moving!!! RIP James Brown
SOUL BROTHER NO.1....changed the music industry, he exploded on the music scene he gave audiences energy we never seen B4 and this world will never experience the likes of JB ever again...LOVE ME SOME JB 💋❤️❤️
I wanna dance to this on my way through the pearley gates!
Any list of greatest frontmen must have James at, or near the top!
This performance was just dynamite. James Brown, nobody performed like him. I head people talk about Michael Jackson and I get sick to my stomach. This was one of my favorite songs too. I saw this when I was a kid on reruns of Soul Train and was just transfixed. Soul Brother #1, Marvin Gaye, Parliament were just the best to me.
I just got a bachelor's, master's and a PhD in funk from watching this.
I love James Brown's music but the vacant looks on his band's faces is killing me!
Lol he worked their butt's off not God Father souls for nothing
He would cue the band through his movements so they are watching him like a hawk.
Yeah that bass player looks like he's about to nod off like he's on that Heron..cat still groovin" though
Focused,Ya
@@MykeFord950lol he locked into the groove!!!
old tapes , this is always Hot as if New 👍😀
1st off RIP 2 Mr. Brown and his backing band that have transitioned. James Brown is/ was and will always be a major bedrock of R/B, Soul, Funk and Hip-Hop. J.B.'s 🎶 is Eternal 💪🏿✊🏿🤘🏿👍🏿
That band is fucking 🔥
Grandma still gets on the good foot 🎶 thank God good exercise ❤
Few bands ever could equal what these guys did. Absolutely phenomenal. Funk for days.

Yes GODFATHER!!
If the government knew how much "cool" there was on this stage..... they would tax it!
That guy on the bottom left at the beginning when the music starts!! Holy crap!!
Regardless of the listener's creed or colour, the syncopation and rhythm WILL stir their very soul
One of my very personal favorite performances of Soul Train & one of my personal favorites.
you can't make this stuff up! If this song doesn't make you get up and shake what you got, you ain't alive.
Rich Lindbloom yeap Sad that so called black people don’t play this no more but only bright people do

My daughter was home from school for Christmas and she wanted to see some live music. On the recommendation from my nephew, we went to the dive called B.L.U.E.S. I Lincoln Park area of Chicago. There was a band playing that night called Vance "Guitar" Kelly and the Backstreet Band. They were awesome! About the fourth song they played was, you guessed it, "Get On The Good Foot..

The jam master of the 70's! A lot of artists sampled his music
Yes! them were the days ( ^&^ ).
Isley Brothers, Sly Stones, Jackson 5, Temptations, Ohio Playahs, Curtis Maxfield, Kool & the rest. .
James Brown said FUCK ALL THAT LIP SYNC SHIT
“And that’s on my bad foot…”

Señoras y señores!!...... Con ustedes el REY DEL SOUL POWER Y EL MOVIMIENTO QUE EN UN FUTURO SERÍA EL DERIVADO DEL HIP HOP, RAP, Y EL BREACK DANCE.... 👍🏼🇲🇽🤩EL SEÑOR JAMES BROWN...
At 2:45 they switch to _Soul Power,_ the other drummer starts to play, the one who played on _Get On The Good Foot,_ is John "Jabo" Starks. Danny Ray is standing next to him. I think the bass player is Fred Thomas. Jimmy Nolen is on the guitar.
For the horns I Saint-Clair Pinkney and also Fred Wesley (trombone).
James invented the 💃 dance the "Goodfoot:'What about him and his bands. Like they say from Hammer " They can'ttouchthis! Take off 5 pds 💃🦶Godfather of Soul!!!Them horns 🎷 don't quit!!! I want turnips. And it's good to me. Get on the goodfoot ,my left the right is overworked, forklift driving.

Since he's gone, we need more imitations like. Bruno Mars. ..
The bass player is funny. Eyes closed. Really into it. Great, whole band. 👍👍👍👍👍
I argue that this is a better performance than Freddy Mercury at Live Aid.
