If you like to play a steady beat, this is the song to do so! The ‘secret’ of this bassline is playing the rests in the maingroove and ‘answering’ these rest with eight notes on beat 3 and 4 of the following bar. Listen for instance at bars 9-12 and 13-16.
Obviously I like the slide towards the note G on the A-string a lot! Listen for instance at bar 16.
Where John Illsley stays steady in the Verse he plays some more melody in the Chorus. Listen for instance at Chorus 2 (bars 51-60). Ik like the way John varies the more punchy/staccato groove in the Verse with the more melodic groove in the Chorus.
I think this song is a typical John Illsley bassline: it isn’t too difficult, but it’s very functional and musical. He 'pushes' the song and he varies in a musical way if you compare the Verse with the Chorus.
I play this song on a Fender Jazz Bass with roundwound strings. Tuning is E A D G. No effects used except a bit compression and a preamp. The song is at concert pitch (A4 = 440 Hz).

Awesome Pete, really enjoy the way you approach your tabs. They always seem to have more pizazz than others plus they’re easier to follow than most tabs out there and their fun to play…thank you for always sharing 👍
