    What I find so incredibly impressive about the accoustic set/surprise song section of the Eras tour is that she chose to put it nearly three fucking hours into her set. She should be vocally tired and leaning into her background vocalists, but nope. Completely raw. It's the most special and intimate part of the show imo.

    • @MinervaLavender2371
      @MinervaLavender2371 5 місяців тому +26

      I came here to say that and you beat me to it. Three hours into her set, and she still has crystal clear vocals, high energy, and intensity. I don't know how she does it, except I do know....Hard work, discipline, raw talent, a brilliant mind, and a beautiful old soul. She inspires me daily, and she's been therapy for me ever since the Red album....

    Now you know why us swifties tune into grainy livestreams at surprise song o'clock and usually put up with some German singing along 😂

    • @Ana-ti5eo
      @Ana-ti5eo 5 місяців тому

      I do hope though, you are just randomly bullying Germans for their pronunciation of a foreign language and are not actually believing, that Stockholm is located in Germany…

    • @kayemm1973
      @kayemm1973 5 місяців тому +1

      Tbh wherever the concert is, the livestreamers (that I am incredibly grateful to) are often of that nationality, I think at the time I watched this video the Era's tour was making its way through Germany so that was my most recent experience. As I said, I'm grateful to anyone who chooses to hold up their phone and stream a show for the rest of us to enjoy too, it's just that some are more tuneful than others 😅
      As a completely tone deaf person I'm well aware I shouldn't judge.

    You can just see the pain in her face during that bridge too, that part of her is still hurting when she thinks about the place she was in when she wrote the song.

  • @emmavink
    @emmavink 5 місяців тому +58

    Yeah, the vibrato on the "ah ohs" just before the bridge is truly glorious. And her breath control with that excellent phrasing and articulation you mentioned... Chef's kiss!

    I always cry during the acoustic set no matter which songs she sings. When it’s just her blowing the doors off with the vocal and a simple accompaniment, it just hits me.

  • @MaureenKarnow
    @MaureenKarnow 5 місяців тому +20

    I think you’d also thoroughly enjoy her live (from Paris) performance of “Cornelia Street”. It further showcases the nuisance of her vocals and how, even with stripped down acoustics, she can still captivate the entirety of her audience.
    *Side note- In knowing how much you loved “Carolina”, there’s a “Murder Mash Up” video of her acoustic set during the Eras Tour combining “Carolina” and “No Body, No Crime” that you should definitely check out! Not only does she do her acoustic performances towards the end of her 3 hour shows but she performed this particular set on a night she wasn’t feeling well and battling a cold- but you’d never know it!!

    I love how you mentioned how her mouth and face moves to make certain vowel sounds! That's exactly what she does. Tori Amos and Regina do the same. I definitely understand the Regina/Taylor vibe.

    As a late comer to Taylor, and older than dirt, I find her just amazing as a performer with all that backup talent she has within, as a writer and a singer. I really love her lower register and suspect I'm just one of millions, whether this song or any song, and there are so many. In a class by herself.

    Taylor is always, for me, at her very very best when she plays her songs exactly how she wrote them. Alone, one instrument.
    That is when she steals into your soul, and a piece of her stays there forever.

    I am addicted to your Taylor reactions. You are so dead-on with your musical and lyrical analyses. I get sh*t for being a child of the 70s and a Swiftie since she began her career. For me, it's all about those insane words. I grew up listening to anazing singer/songwriters so it's natural for me to be drawn to Taylor. Also, I never gave a sh*t if I was cool or not😂. If something has value to me, I don't care what others think of it. Thanks again for your sincere reaction!

    It's so fascinating to me how not great her piano playing is, given the total commitment and work ethic she seemingly brings to every aspect of her job. This is not a complaint, I don't mind it! Taylor live plus one instrument is crazy intense. Tbh I feel like people who are getting into her right now, but haven't gotten sucked in enough to watch the surprise songs live, are missing out. It's such a unique, never to be repeated moment in the history of music performance, the anticipation, the crowds, Taylor all grown up, a master of her craft and nothing rote about any of it; add to that, the nostalgia, the lore, the intrigue that goes with every selection, the way she uses mashups to interlink her discography. If you're at all curious, don't not watch because you're too cool and Swifties were mean to you, so few shows left now.

    My current TTPD favourites are The Prophecy, Smallest Man who ever lived, How did it end? and So Long London...but they change all the time, it's such a masterpiece with such depth. I get so fed up of trying to 'justify' loving Taylor Swift to people, people who've never sat down and properly listened to her or watched her perform...and then I remember I used to be one of those people until 11 years ago when I properly listened to 1989 and recognised genius!

  • @MinervaLavender2371

    Not a Swifty but the rumour about Cobain's grave being violated by Swifties has no proof. People from Seattle (nearby to Aberdeen where the supposed grave is) said there is no news in Washington. Sounds like TikTok rumours. Enjoyed your reaction. Didn't pay much attention to this song until I saw it live on UA-cam. Excellent Proformance!!!!

      Exactly...Cobain was cremated and his ashes were spread...he wasn't actually buried anywhere, but, there is a memorial marker and bench where people visit and leave there condolences...there is no proof of anyone violating the area

    Since you brought up her mastery of muscle control with her vowels, my favorite example of that is in the album version of “Who’s afraid of little old me?” When she sings “if you wanted me dead, you should have just said” the easiest way to make dead/said sound so thin is to sing it with a big, toothy grin. A fake smile. I imagine that was intentional.
    I love the entire back half of that album, but if I had to choose one it would be The Black Dog. It starts out so quiet and sad, but ends up in the really angry place. Sort of similar to the journey All Too Well goes on.

Glad you enjoyed, and you’re right - there’s a Taylor Swift song for almost everyone! My favourite off of the main TTPD album is Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? and from the Anthology, my favourite is The Black Dog closely followed by I Hate It Here 😊

    It’s so sad that no one wanted to know how she was feeling or doing; they only wanted the dirt on their reasoning for breaking up. It has to be awful to play it live, you can see the pain in her face. They hear the news, gasp, and ask “how did it end?” Those aren’t true friends if their first question after hearing the news isn’t “how is Taylor?” Just heartbreaking and she was able to share that heartbreaking experience with us so eloquently and beautifully.

    Your Taylor Swift reactions never fail to make my day. I’ve been what I call an “underground swiftie” - been a HUGE fan of hers since I was 7 or 8, but never wanted to be labeled with the bad rep some of her extreme fans give Swifties. I fell off her music when I was a teenager, because it was during a time when girls were judged for liking her music and I didn’t want to be labeled as a “Taylor Swift Fan.” Now at 26, I can’t help but be drawn back into her with a different lens. Lyrics are beautiful, and painfully relatable, the power behind her voice that she’s improved over the past few years is so GOOD.
    You’ve cultivated a nice audience of non-toxic swifties and it has been SO fun seeing you get more and more into her stuff.

      Sorry… I am a massive Swiftie, fan since Debut and always said this but Wings of Pegasus proved she does (at least on Eras regular sets for highly-produced numbers) ua-cam.com/video/t9DgsUEMWh4/v-deo.htmlsi=ZXO5-tvrGuGL8cS6. He has done 3 videos on this issue. After his first one Swifties came for him and demanded a ‘redo’, he did with same result, and then this last third video upon request of more Swifties. The data doesn’t lie. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But it is a LONG concert, and she does have to save her voice for the acoustic sets that have choreography on top of it. Her voice would be fried given how many concerts she has done.

    I've been in plenty of fandoms and sadly there's always gonna be some toxic people. But they're USUALLY a minority compared to the alright fans and they're mostly online and young (at least these days as far as I can see) Understandably, this differs with the size of the fandom. But I do think the larger the fandom the more toxic people get in. I'm glad your comment section has slowly turned to being really positive.
    That aside though, I absolutely enjoyed this reaction. My favourite song on TTPD changes with every listen but I relate to The Bolter and I Hate It Here the most. Thanks for another stellar time!

But when you can hear Taylor and she’s feeling it and it’s a little real and imperfect, she’s fucking magic. This one, Peter, The Prophecy, Chloe, Sam, etc, are my favorites. The ones that make me weepy. But I have imgonnagetyouback on my best of 2024 for some car dancing.

    This is the "wee minx" here again 😄I was speaking with ma wee sister in Glasgow the other day for a catch-up and I mentioned at the ripe old age of 72 I'm just delving into Taylor and we had a good laugh. I've always known about her since the beginning but Country Music American style is not in my DNA so didn't pay her a lot of attention but was on Disney+ and the only thing I found at that point to watch was the Eras Tour movie. I thought why don't ye gie it a go, and I sat there for 3 1/2+ hours gobsmacked. Like you, I started to delve into her discography more and actually checked out ticket availability for her Toronto concerts in November next. However, forgetting the price, my auld body and highly sensitive ear lugs, widnae cope with the rigors. Plus, it would be ma luck tae sit beside someone geein it laldy out of key. Sorry, I am reminiscing about my misspent youth in Glasgow's drinking establishments talking in my "native tongue". Mairi

    I agree so very much with everything you've said and I'm only just over 3 minutes in. Dave's completely unnecessary comments about Taylor? D**k move, and pretty disappointing coming from an artist I admire so much. Also with you 100% on the 1st 2 Foo albums being amazing. I still listen to both to this day. In fact, there's a particular performance of "Walking After You" that I downloaded via LimeWire decades ago bc I'm old, and it remains one of my favorite songs. I hadn't heard about people desecrating Kurt's grave. That's absolutely disgusting behavior, but unfortunately not terribly surprising given the fact that people generally suck. The act of vandalizing a resting place is abhorrent, straight-sickening behavior and I hope that those individuals are found and held accountable.
    As to the song at hand here, I'm with you all the way. How Did it End was an immediate standout track to me. It's weighty, but in a way that feels cathartic somehow, maybe? The bridge is devastating and I find myself alternating between holding my breath throughout, and wanting to sing along with her. Just a masterful song imo. Thanks for this! I've really loved your content and thoughtfulness! Side note-when people give me crap for liking Taylor Swift (I randomly decided to listen to TTPD when it came out, then discovered the Long Pond Sessions and now apparently I'm addicted), I send them the Long Pond performance of "My Tears Ricochet." lol

    As my sainted Nan would say, "This is why we cannot have nice things" Why can we not just celebrate great music, no matter the genre? Kirk Cobain was awesome and a bit of a poet himself... Shame on whoever desecrates anyone's resting place.

    2:56 sadly there is toxicity in every fandom. The application for Swiftie left out “prone to inappropriate crazy actions”. At least the subject of their crazy isn’t crazy herself. Although a little more scolding by her about their extremism would be helpful

      The thing is, fans will do as they do. She told people to live the past alone when she announced SN and they didn't. Even when she does something FOR them some get pissed. Sending death threats to someone who POSTPONED a show for your safety and leaking her hotel is wild. They feel entitled over her for some reason. As if she owes them something.

    There is an assumption that there are a few shitty Swifties who give Swifties a ban name. It is also possible that there are a few shitty non-Swifties who do shitty things knowing they will be blamed on Swifties The ASSUMPTION is ALWAYS that it was Swifties.

    The Kurt Cobain grave desecration was imo completely fabricated by a Tiktok user and people ran with it. I have no proof of my theory, but to date there is absolutely no proof -- all the pictures of graffiti on the tombstone are old and in tribute (we love you, we miss you, etc) and it wasn't covered by ANY local news stations in Washington (where I'm from). If it was true it DEFINITELY would have been covered. The only proof is a tiktokers vid of the memorial covered in graffiti that got virally reposted. So I don't really believe it. But interesting how it took the blame away from Grohl's comments and put it on the toxicity of TS fans, convenient, no? 😂😊

    Every fandom is equally toxic 😂 if it were to be put into a percentage, every fandom has an equal chance and an equal amount of toxic fans. It's just a 1% in the taylor swift fandom is VASTLY different from a 1% from, let's say, an Ethel Cain fandom.
    Until the end of time, the amount of toxic fans is and always will be, equal, percentage wise. Not one fandom is more toxic than the other.

    Wait... WHAT the fk is the story with Kurt Cobain's grave??????
    It's also bizarre to me that anyone outside of the ridiculously toxic tabloid hate fiction actually thinks there are issues with Dave and Taylor. He gave an interview YEARS ago (probably on The Graham Norton Show cause I've been watching that the most consistently for the longest and I thought the story was a gem) that Swift saved his ass at a party exactly by singing something live...
    The whole thing read fabricated media drama to me.
    So if actual self proclaimed Swifties heard that and did anything to Cobain's grave... Just another reason I'll stay a fan and not a Swiftie 🤷‍♀️
