I have been waiting for a Imperius lore video. He is easily my top 5 most badass character in ALL of Blizzards games. His looks, his voice, his badassery is all at the peak.
This one took me ages to make, my apologies. I'll try and get back on my past video release schedule. Quality > Quantity, always. I hope you like the video friends
Just remember, when every other angel was running away in diablo 3, this guy was the one to go out in front of the Diamond Gates!! Truly a godlike character. And respectfully Nyx, I hope we don't fight in him in a future expansion. I think Imperius's story arc can be better told with a redemption type story. I very much see a Grom Hellscream type of ending for this character, where he may finally put aside his fury and wrath, and do the right thing when we need it most. I fear when this happens though, it will ultimately cost him his life. But it would most likely be a moment immortalized in Blizzard history. I think Blizzard released their was a better path forward for this character as well, which is why they backed away from what they were going to do with him in the Diablo 3/ D3: RoS script. He was too big of a charcter to just wash away as a potential villain.
If memory serves me correctly, Reaper Of Souls was originally going to be called Aspect of Wrath, where Imperus kills Tyreal. Later, when Blizzard changed to focus more on Malfieal, they were still gonna use Imperus but they couldn't fit him.
GOOOOSH. I forgot I changed accounts with a new browser after resetting my PC... I wasn't subbed on this account. THANK GOD I FIXED THAT. Absolutely LOVE your content!!!! Please never stop
I can imagine Imperius went through the cosmos to find something to become stronger so he won't be defeated again, finding that thing and then saying "Ok , it's time to fuck some shit up" going in solo on sanctuary and the burning hells
In a documentary about Diablo 3, Imperius was supposed to be the main villain in the last DLC but was replaced by Malthael, the Reaper of Souls. In the original DLC iteration Imperius would've become Wrath and that's a logical development for him. Hating the hells, being envious of humanity and the nephalem, and bitter towards his angel kin for not appreciating the lengths he is willing to go for in his righgeousness, Imperius would become Wrath and start his own war against anyone willing to stand in his way to purify the world of evil and prove the superiority of angel-kind. It'd be a story of Imprius becoming a puritanian and using machiavellian philosophy for his means to an end, which means there are no wrong tactics, only wrong targets.
Those angels. So cool. So underused. So sadly reduced to unimportance moments after finally making their appearance. They just become mere npcs to rescue.
Solarium is one of my favorite weapons. Not just in the game, but in all of fiction. I always wondered how cool it would be if your character reached a level angelic weapons could be weilded, like Tyrael's sword
Hi Nix! I Love your content, your enthisiasm explaining thing, and the way (and the voice) you use to di this. Great video! At the same time, when you do the same videos about PoE, I love you more! I feel more "involvement", more fun in your voice, more genuine pathos in them... maybe just my thoughts... ? Good work and go on happily on your path!
I would love to see Imperius fully convert to believing in humanity. The angels represent the good of humanity and it would be nice to see them be that way too

I always thought that a diablo game where you play as an angel would be awesome. Maybe your on a mission to stop some nasty plan from Imperius and he ends up as the end boss and the purity of the council is restored.
I like your version of him being antagonist and when you finish I think his punishment should be banished from heaven and become mortal as he despises so much
I never liked how people think that Imperius will go all evil as the aspect of "wrath". I think Imperius is the closest and purest incarnation of Anu Himself. And like Anu he "despises" the parts that is "unholy" or "dark" and that he wants to get rid of it at all costs. It must also be hard on Imperius to see his brethren constantly compromise on many things when it comes to the "darker" parts of their world, especially since he's the closest to what Anu stood for ie elimination of all that darkness. I never took his anger as being somehow "corrupted" and will change into an "aspect of wrath" since I've always viewed his anger as being righteous anger, and there is a massive difference between the two. Look how many angels have fallen to those darker views or compromises... It'll almost be as if Imperius himself would be the last Angel to still stand against it... And as someone that would want the story to end with the triumph of good over evil...He has an uphill battle. Tyrael ain't going to help much, just compromising on the "nephalem" itself is a compromise on the dark and sinister method with which they were born in the first place. He's tainted...
Personally dont think imperius will do anything bad to humanity as he has followed the will of the council even tho he disagrees. He may be trying to do tough love as he hasnt been violent towards any human other then rhetoric.
18:12 that be so dope! I feel like that's what they tried to do with the angel of death but I really didn't like it (skipped that expansion for the most part). But an angel with "just" reasons for killing humanity would be fresh. I really enjoyed 4 for its freshness cuz of the highlight on Lilith who has love for humanity in a sense. If anarious becomes a 'fallen angel' and collabs with a lesser evil on some quid pro quo to attack sanctuary and hell this time, and we have to protect the balance and stop them, I'd play the fuck out of that game 😂
I have a maybe stupid question. If the hells and heavens didn’t know about sanctuary. When humans died where did they go? Like who is getting tormented in hell by Andariel? I’m a tad confused
What if the figure from D4's post credit scene is Inarius in hell? I've heard people speculate in Lucion, Lillith's brother but that doesnt really track with everything we winessed throught the campaign. Lillith even said as she drove thenspear through his heart that she was sending him to hell where he belonged....Fallen Angel demon sounds like a pretty badass antagonist and interesting prospects for the story going forward.
Ehh, I always viewed that situation where fate/ the cosmos actually determined the outcome of that fight. It was impossible for Imperius to win, because he was wrong to judge the literal aspect of judgement itself. Almost like Imperius shot himself in the foot and stepped out of line in the grand scheme of the cosmos, so the cosmos itself put him in place. In an actual fight though, I'd wager on Imperius easily. Not to say Tyrael is a pushover though. He's probably the second best angelic fighter, but I don't think Tyrael has quite the same credentials and demon death receipts wracked up that Imperius has. I mean we are talking demonic rivers of blood here.....
@@Lordlt82 Well, he avoided it because he really didn't have the heart to go against a fellow angel. That and I am sure to some extent he agreed with what Malthael was doing, but was turned off by the extreme lengths he would go to. Even to the point of attacking fellow angels. Lol I'd wager the entire story of the events of D3 put a huge damper on Imperius's spirits. The destruction of heaven, the loss of malthael, angels against angels. I was pretty disappointed that the Angels didn't really play a role in D4. I'm hoping we'll see them return at some point, maybe in the upcoming DLC. But the devs really didn't seem to like the Angels or the folks that supported them, like the Crusaders/Paladins and the Zakarum and all those guys. Kind of a waste, now that we've spent so much time with the Angels in D3. You'd think Tyrael and Imperius especially would be eager to head to Sanctuary to shut down Mephisto and stop the spread of Hell on Sanctuary.
Diablo game idea: Now that they're going for the open world theme, make world factions kinda like in WoW and players can choose to join the angels or the demons and fight one another. Then open world events could also include some PvP or even just PvE challenges for the sides to battle over territory and whatnot.
He is coming. After Prime Evil Diablos full scale war on the High Heavens in D3 the Angels are recovering and have closed their gates. I believe why Tyrael got scared and ran away just before D4 is because he still has some kind of connection to the High Heavens and the Angels. I believe he saw a vision where he witnessed what the Angels are doing behind their closed gates. Imperius is preparing for war and is training and bolstering the armies of the High Heavens. Imperius sees his plan coming and moment after Malthael killed at least 50% of the Human race, so Imperius is gonna invade and attack Sanctuary and kill all humans. So Imperius will likely come in expansion 3 or 4 in D4s life cycle and we will have some nice variation on the gameplay front with Angels finally being the enemies.
