Plus it was choppy. This electronic stabilizer seems to be not as good as Armando said. Have only tried it on the GH5 and there it is meh

I'm excited for you! You're brave to order without seeing more tests/content, though. I hope it has more DR than the C200 - we'll see. It would also be great if Canon improves basic usability items such as allowing you to disable the LCD to save battery life (instead of having to yank the cable out) and remembering settings (frame rate, dual recording, etc.) when switching between recording modes.

Hi Armando. Mirrorless Canon eos R can mount the new 3ring lenses (or use the adaptor with 1 more ring).
The C500 can use those lenses and benefit from 3 ring?

I had the Ursa. Awesome image, but moved to Canon for reliability. I can not trust BM. I've had many issues in the middle of production. Scary as F!
CF Express cards cost how much? Is there a dock to use SSD’s? That would be much more practical and affordable.

Which cinema lens is best for c500 to shoot cinema
Armando, I love your videos, they are insightful and thorough; however, there have been many Canon users, like myself, who have abandoned Canon altogether. I would have bought the Canon C-200 last summer but as you state in your video, it lacks 4:2:2 10-bit, 4096 x 2160 at 400 Mb/s which is not much to ask. Canon has a habit of holding back on technology which has opened the field for their competitors, such as Kinefinity which provides amazing dynamic range and rivals professional end cameras like the Arri Alexa and Panasonic Varicam series at a fraction of the cost. Canon's auto-focus tracking devices as well as their easy usability keep them afloat; however, the floodgates have opened and now savvy shoppers are looking for more affordable solutions in attaining the cine-look.
The only issue I see in the C500ii is that it does not have compression options for RAW.
Last year, my C300 MkII - high on a tripod - got knocked over and hit the hard stone floor at the shooting location. Nothing happened to the lens thanks to the flexible lens mount. Any idea if the C500 MkII also has the same type of flexible lens mount that is always lined up with the sensor?
Btw, some things like the viewfinder and some plastic parts were destroyed but the repair costs were rather acceptable with absolutely amazing turnaround times.

The Mavo LF has the ARRI look and very similar color science, better specs, destroys the C500 II in low light, has high frame rates using full sensor size while the Canon crops in to super 16 with a 3x crop to get the same fps and if you will use the electronic stabilization, then it will crop in even more! The Canon uses insanely expensive CFast Express cards while the Mavo LF has SSD.
The only pro with the Canon is auto focus for interviews or docu style of shooting and better DR.
The Mavo LF has only 13.5 stops of actual DR... We have to see what the Canon will have in reality.

I would love to try one! I wonder if Canon will make the RF mount that you can adapt to it? I've seen some pics and I think the sensor is too far away. That sucks because the 1.2 lenses would look phenomenal on that camera.

The c500 mii is an amazing camera. Pretty much if you can afford it, the c500 will be a workhorse for so many different types of work. I wonder what fs7 users looking to upgrade will do, go for the fx9, or spend a bit more and go with the c500mii?

Are you sorry you didn't wait for the Canon C300 MkIII with its 16 stops of dynamic range and 4k 120fps?
T Hogan nope I knew about the C300 MKIII since last year. To me the C500 MKII is a far superior camera that is future proof. First off it has a 6K sensor and even if I don’t film in 6K and record in 4K it’s still downsampled from a 6K image giving me a sharper and cleaner image.
Secondly Full Frame, I’ve been loving using 50 and 85mm lenses for my talking head in my studio which was impossible to do with a Super35mm sensor. The C500 already has amazing dynamic range and since I’m also lighting having anything over 13 stops is useless. Don’t care for 120FPS I rarely even use 4K 60 or any slow motion for that matter, maybe If I shot music videos I’d really want that but I don’t.
Lastly price, the C300 MkIII is over 10K and doesn’t come with any media which the C500 MKII did so you’ll have to add $700 more to the price. So for about $4000 more you get FF with a higher resolution I’d say is a better value. Kenny Varela these influencers are highly endorsed by the brands they promote. Take any camera/camera gear review with a pinch of salt (or a bucket in this case). They do a great job highlighting the great features, but always try to rent or listen to people in the real world to make informed decisions

I've owned a C300MK2 since it came out, my biggest dissapointment with the camera is Luminance banding issues (anyone else getting issues like that?) I even saw a video of the C700 having the same issues. Has the C500MK2 sorted this problem? Spec is great, burnt in Magenta streaks are not acceptable! Would love to know as Im about to upgrade.....
Unless you film hand-held a lot then you're better off not having IBIS. Especially for 'planned shoots' such as short films and corporate films where you'll be using sliders and stuff to achieve slick shots. Having the sensor moving around in a camera like the C500 isn't a good idea in my opinion. But with hybrid photo / video cams like the S1 and GH5 etc, then IBIS is a no-brainer. Cool vid!
Hugh Sweeney it's not IBIS it's EIS which IMO is better.
I love this videos because then it makes the idea of purchasing an EOS R and Atamos Ninja look very reasonable haha. Nevertheless, I'm stoked to see the c500ii in action.
I love the specs of the C500ii - full-frame, dual pixel AF and Canon ‘nice-ness’ sensible codecs as well as raw, 4K as well as 6K. Compact as well as being able to build up and modular - there is a lot to like.
It’s price tag is high but compared to a Monstro, Venice or Alexa LF it’s a bargain and none of those pro cams have (or need) AF but it’s great for a solo op. Mavo LF works out to pretty similar costs spec’d out in a similar way and I’d go with a bigger brand over Kinefinity. Blackmagic will release a full frame camera too at some point I’m guessing but C500ii with still have it’s own specific advantages over these more ‘Indy’ camera offerings.

An Amazing looking camera. Really amazing, I am seriously thinking of going in hard, which would mean going back to Canon after several years away, which will be expensive... Having said that.... Anyone else wondering why it doesn’t have the new RF mount underneath? It’s really giving me pause to invest in a camera platform that uses a lens technology that the manufacturer itself is moving away from. The new RF lenses are a big part of what gets me excited about Canon’s future. Seems like an opportunity lost...

It sounds like you need a Kinefinity MAVO LF!
Apparently the Sony FX9 has an inbuilt gyros that records movement and exports the data, to which you can then use to stabilize the footage in post. Allows you to adjust how much stabilization you want. Its is an new form of IBIS I suppose.
Massimo Conci Media GoPro has something similar and it’s really cool

Cobbled I don't use C-Log on my C200 I always use C-Log2 because I shoot in RAW. They're very easy to match and both are FF.

I have visited a presentation of the C500 MK II in Switzerland. As you say, Full Frame, 5.9K Sensor, great camera. Although it would have been very useful, if Canon had offered a higher framerate such as 100 fps on for example 4 K without crop. That way filmmakers like me are forced to invest in additional cameras such as RED Gemini.
It can do 168FPS in 12bit RAW in 2K cried to a Super35. What kind of work do you do that would require more than that?
@@mondobytes Thank you. To my understanding it's max 120fps in Cinema Raw Light in 2K - 12 Bit - (crop) - but I'de be happy if (frameratewise) it would come close to the performance of the RED Gemini - I would go only with the C500 MK II - look forward to testing it in december.

I think its a smart move. C500 is an amazing upgrade.
I would really like this camera, but so far I haven't seen a piece of footage that has somehow impressed me. ARRI or RED footage (or even from the new Sony FX9) always looks slightly better. And btw working with redcode is such a pleasure. So I would call the C500 more an all-round documentary camera. In big budget movies it will probably only a B or C cam, if any. Cinema-style camera is perhaps the better term. But hopefully we'll see better pictures from the C500 soon! It´s defenitely a nice tool for video professionals, no doubt. The flexibility, the internal ND filters and the good autofocus are of course great things, but we already know them from the previous models. Image quality is still the most important deciding factor for many people. Btw, to be honest, I can't really understand the current full-frame hype, (but that´s probably just me). In the old days with my 5d2 I was glad at some point to switch back to S35. Same with the endless slo mos ...
Maybe a small advice for all you guys who can only dream of a C500, RED etc., and who don´t need high frame rates, try to get an old BM Production Camera 4k. In my opinion it has the same image quality and "cinematic feel" of the big boys. Skin tones are on par with Arri and Canon. And it has a global shutter which is very rare these days (..at the expense of maybe 2 or 3 stops of dynamic range). S35 and canon mount, Internal SSD slot, a fast responding touch screen etc.. I bought mine at $800 which was a steal! Ok, this thing looks ugly and unprofessional , but who cares.;-) Anyway, thanks for the review of the C500, Armando.
Personally I think this is a great camera that will push the competition to step their game up. Although it has a rather large price. I think its worth the money. This camera is basically a one stop shop.
If I had $2,500, I'd replace my G7 with a Blackmagic Pocket 6K.
At 3:05 the image appears to be stuttering as you pan across the Porsche.
Is this a C500 mkii issue or a UA-cam issue?
That's because they filmed it in 25P and I'm using a 24P timeline so framerate is off.

personally I think I'd rather get a Kinefinity Mavo Lf (and before someone asks, yes it is indeed a cinema camera) because for the price of the body only of the c500 m2 I could get one of the pro kits for around the same price, that and it records to ssds instead of cfast cards, though with that being said if you really need auto focus I'd recommend getting a c500 m2 instead
