There was a radio episode I listened to back in '82 that examined why the band never broke big here.

🤔 to be honest ' it's almost better that they didnt make it big here in the USA. That would made them change their style to fit the us market. The Jam speaks of issues that only the UK or Europeans would understand. Long live the Jam. The UK and Europe. Thank you for sharing your great bands and talent with the world.. 🙏😊👽🍻

Beginning of the video where they are standing in the road, thats the junction of Blythe road and Faroe road W14. Also only a few streets away from where Arthur Daileys car lot was filmed for the opening credits for Minder.

One of their most underrated singles. Tell em we don't fight for fools cos love is in our hearts. One of the best lyrics ever.

I remember when the album came out in 1981, it was like nothing I had heard before. I kept playing 'Absolute Begninners' every morning before I dragged my self to my first classes as a freshman in college and my nowhere job. It was only one of a few songs at the time that kept me out of total despair and hoping for a better future.

@@Mod-rw9cw It was a U.S. only EP featuring 5 songs - great songs: 1. Absolute Beginners, 2. Funeral Pyre, 3. Disguises, 4. Liza Radley, and a song that I find helps me keep my sanity as an older fellow - Tales from the Riverbank. "True it's a dream mixed with nostalsia, but it's a dream that I'll always hang to, that I'll always run to, won't you join me by the river bank", poetry with a tune that expresses both melocholy and hope.

    Lyrics
In echoed steps I walked across an empty dream
I looked across this world, there was no one to be seen
This empty feeling turned and quietly walked away
I saw no warmth in life, no love was in my eyes
I stared a century thinking this will never change
As I hesitated, time rushed onwards without me
Too scared to break the spell, too small to take a fall
But the absolute luck is, love is in our hearts!
I lost some hours thinking of it
I need the strength to go and get what I want
I lost a lifetime thinking of it
An' I lost an era daydreaming like I do
I stared a century thinking this will never change
As I hesitated, time rushed onwards without me
Too scared to break the spell, too small to take a fall
But the absolute luck is, love is in our hearts!
In echoed steps you walk across an empty dream
But look around this world, there's millions to be seen
Come see the tyrants panic, see their crumbling empires fall
Then tell 'em we don't fight for fools 'cause love is in our hearts!
I lost some hours thinking of it
I need the strength to go and get what I want
I lost a lifetime thinking of it
An' I lost an era daydreaming like I do
You can lose some hours thinking of it
You need the strength to go and get what you want
You can lose a lifetime thinking of it
And lose an era daydreaming like I do

@@potbelliedfool which is rather peculiar since what he was doing was based in the blues which is characteristically American.
