I think Foundations falls into that not every product is for every person category. Foundations is meant to give new players an on ramp. Duskmourn is an expansion for people to build out decks/collections. In theory, two different target markets so timing shouldn't really matter. They're trying to undo a past mistake and compete more effectively with all of the other TCGs out there. Premium set after premium set just makes a game that locks people out, but we all know WotC isn't going to give up the premium set revenues to build an on ramp for something reasonable enough to lure someone new into the game.
They already had that product. It was called core set. They just said not long ago they want consolidated product lines. Which is what the removal of set and draft boosters to play was for. Now they have another product line. Foundations. They just re branded set and draft to play and foundations. No consolidation. Same amount of products which waaaaaaay too many. Boosters just call them Booster packs remove all prefix and sell the things. Bo one cares about the name of the Booster pack. Draft set collectors play foundations. Just call them boosters for fs sake
Sadly it depends on how much the cards within are needed for standard. It already has omniscience which will be a prime target for reanimation for years to come. Still think this set shouldn't have cards like that.
I totally agree with you Moxman. I've had several Commander players excited about getting Foundations singles and maybe opening packs. It seems people are just looking over Duskmourn so far. I'm excited about Duskmourn. Right up my alley...but I liked MKM & Streets of New Capenna so...😂🤣😂🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️🤷🏿♂️

This is the key. These should be dirt cheap eventually. It'll depend on how much they have designed ahead of time and have cards relevant down the road.
I liked MKM and run Judith out of that set in commander quite a bit. Have a blast playing it. Im not interested in duskmourn but foundations caught my eye.

I am interested in the foundations starter kits. From my understanding it is basically a 350 card precon + 3 packs and a clicker style life counter for $60. That's pretty awesome value, especially if they are actually offering "staple" cards as they claim instead of just junk. Duskmourn does not look very interesting to me aside from the special bundle. Play boosters are worthless now, so it's either collectors, special bundles, or singles for each set from now on.
I've got 2 questions for foundations. The first is power level. Is this inline with current standard sets or will it set a new floor with power creep? My second question is, how many of the new cards are commander only? I've heard it's 50% new cards. How many of those new cards are in the commander set? If this is a powerhouse set, it could make big waves in pioneer as well as standard.
Just bought my first pack since the days of Urza. I started playing again right before Outlaws on Arena. Kind of feels like singles or Draft are the way Ill go. Its too bad Magic is owned by so many companies that lets be honest how many players are there in all those other companies. Seems like they have sucked the life right out of Dnd and that seems like an impossible thing to do unless your so greedy that you would allow your product to implode on itself but they did it. Here we are watching this company squeeze the life out of another thing many of us love.

The biggest fail will be the asking price it seems. But surely they can't sell a box at $50 anymore unless it is a commander pre-con or a SLD these days. The holidays will soon be upon us and I will be cutting back on Magic products. Again, there are too many products coming out practically every month. Foundations will have 50% of old cards (Reprints) that will drive the prices on certain cards. Wizards does not care if there is a backlash. They will continue to FLOOD the market with new products. I keep telling people, WotC does *not* protect the value of cards. They *cultivate* value in the secondary market, to *expend* that value turning pricy singles into reprint Sealed purchasing-draws. WotC is a farmer that fattens stock for slaughter. That’s all.
Standard moves boxes. They're going hard into Modern, so it's obvious why boxes aren't selling as much. All those kinda good rares that standard players loved are completely ignored by other formats. Until they start advertising standard more, prices will keep dropping for boxes.
I am more interested in Foundations than Duskmourn. I really hate the design direction visually, the extra obvious use of AI art and some of the spoiled cards have me concerned. As someone who has enjoyed the old core sets, I'd rather see this product.
I am anticipating them to release a few probably 5 rarest ore mythics that are reprints of iconic cards that are medium value nothing super expensive as a base but they are going to run them in the collector booster in the ultra rare printing slot and use that as the carrot to get the collectors to go chasing after them

I'm surprised they didn't do commander precons for this set. Following up on your train of thought, it could be an attempt to ease new commander players who only ever bought precons and maybe some singles into building a collection by offering a starter pack with staples in all five colors. We will have to see how much this product has to offer for players already owning the staples - my guess is little to none.
As an old player i am now a big single buyer,since the copacana set i bought zero boxes. In the dusk new set the spoiler no cards on my list and in foudation just 2 more omniscience
How is Outlaws doing well? Collector boxes down to $170. Commander decks were dumped at $100 for a while. Play boxes down to $130 and barely selling, it’ll probably drop more. It lasted longer than MKM but I think it’s still gonna drop
170 for collectors and 130 for playboosters sounds like it's doing well to me. The collector boosters are overpriced, 160-180 is where they should be if they aren't doing something special like serialized chases or being a super high power set. 130 for playboosters that have been out for months are are competing with the new hotness? That's a solid price. Doing well and doing amazing aren't the same thing. Ixalan and bloomburrow are doing amazing. Outlaws is doing well.
@@Hapkins-le6xf I’m pretty sure $170 is near or below distribution prices which means selling at that is a loss or break even, a store wouldn’t do that for a set selling well. $130 for play doesn’t sound too bad yet, but like I said it’s dropped to that and with slowing sales it will probably drop more. A product should be headed toward better by sold at no profit after a few months.
@chim007azo this is the world we live in. Wotc sells to distribution too high, distribution passes that along. Asking 170 for standard set collector boosters with no special treatments anyone cares about is a tough sell. Asking 220, far worse. In time, they will likely recover but someone will need a warehouse for them to sit in which the average store can't do. So the average store should stop buying them unless they know they are glong to do well. Duskmorne collector boosters will likely go the same way. As far as the playboosters go, stores ordered too many and now they are holding the bag as the release cycle has moved on. Outlaws came out in the latter half of April with 3 more standard sets coming out this year, the one directly following it the most anticipated one of the year. Outlaws is out of season at this point and it's still at 130, I'd say that's doing well. I do feel bad for stores, but they keep ordering at the prices wotc demands.
LOL, *WotC* is killing the 60-card formats. EDH is merely a symptom of players being priced out of 60-card MtG. Pathetically low EV leads to every player with brains avoiding buying boxes. So many people refusing to set their money on fire to likely not get a fraction of the cards they want from a set leads to runaway prices in the secondary market. Why does WotC want single prices high? To use reprints as Sealed purchasing-draws. All roads lead to the greed of Wizards of the Hasbro. Couple all of that with the Pro-Proxy players mostly having won the culture war in Commander-dominated LGSs, and it’s easy to see why EDH lives as 60-card withers. When Modern loses a player willing and able to spend 2,000-2,500$ on a new Modern deck every few months to natural life-attrition, there’s no replacing that player. Not when the not-too-common Millenials/Gen Z’s w/ major disposable income are all hoping a newer CCG they can get in on the ground floor of will prove to be the MtG-Killer. Whereas when EDH loses a player, a new guy/gal shows up, buys a 50-75$ Precon, gets 50-100$ of cards given to them by established EDH players to upgrade said Precon, and they’re off to the races. I came back to MtG for EDH 7 months ago. And despite making it clear to people I had a preexisting collection, I literally couldn’t get out of accepting 200$ in upgrades for the Innistrad Coven Counters Precon I bought right there without unequivocal rudeness. That’s how EDH players are. They’re *aggressively* welcoming to new blood. “You got the store Discord, bro? No, let me get that for you.” “You couldn’t find that Avacyn you needed this week for a sane price? Here my man, catch me up when you’ve got the other 20$ or you open something I want in your FNM packs.” I think it’s the whole Fun > Winning thing that gives EDH such a community boost.

Now, it just makes me sad. If they’re all so busy resenting Commander players, they won’t put the blame on WotC where it belongs and *stop buying product* until Wizards of the Hasbro straightens up. The D&D community fought back against Hasbro Greed, and so can MtG’s community. We just need to stop blaming each other and unite behind the idea there will be no more Sealed purchased until EV exceeds 60% of price point (In cards worth 2.50$ and up. None of this counting .40 cards crap) as a guarantee. I’d like to see a Guaranteed Mythic pack standard, but that’s something only a business which valued and respected those who have been in many cases their patrons for more than a generation now would do, so no hope on that front. I always buy a prerelease kit or about 4 packs or so if a prerelease isn't available. After that, singles only. No boxes.
With standard and commander the only 2 things people have time to build and play deck for. They need to extend the life cycle of cords in that format.
I am ready to go heavy bags on foundation collector boosters. Honestly could care less about duskmourn concepts and art direction.
