a bruit secret. Alvin Lucier has produced the perfect concept-album, maybe never to be challenged. Even 4'33" by Cage seems like (and is kind of) a joke if you don't scrub at least a little. But Alvin Lucier's composition is at the same time definitive, opens to the secret music of sound, to realms of accoustics studies, musicology, drone, organic music, the very structure of sound and is by far one of the most important sound creation.

Great illuminating video on Lucier! Beware - the subtitles are not quite right, but are pretty humorous. Works of art unto themselves.

Alvin Lucier just passed away two days ago. Came here to see his live performance and surprised to see Evan Ziporyn, a fabulous performer on the bass clarinet, introducing "I am Sitting in a Room". Small world.

Just found out about Lucier and this work (via the wiki page for Towa Tei's German Bold Italic btw). Intriguing concept for sure. RIP Alvin Lucier

Very cool! Thank you for sharing this. Quite interesting how that Amar Bose lecture inspired the piece. I've just updated the "I Am Sitting in a Room" Wikipedia page with this info -- thanks!

They got his name wrong as 'this bimboos', in the subtitles. Lots n lots of errors

@@purnimasingh3310 Weird, I see what you're talking about. Maybe the manual subtitles were originally derived from the automatically generated ones? I checked out the first few sentences with both, and the current auto-subs are actually more accurate (though also with errors) than the manual ones.

@@DanHarkless_Halloween_YTPs_etc I don't know which ones are auto and which manual but, the subtitles that play by themselves (before hitting CC), have been removed.

@@purnimasingh3310 I don't think UA-cam has a "forced" subtitle feature. It does remember the state of the CC button from the last time you watched a video, though. On desktop UA-cam, at least, the different subtitle tracks can be switched between using the gear icon; this video has both "English (auto generated)" and "English - CC (English)" (which UA-cam didn't generate), both chock full of errors.

@@DanHarkless_Halloween_YTPs_etc I know its silly making this big a deal over subtitles. Seeing 'MIT' mess up information about someone who's work they used as content for a seminar - that too about sound and 'listening' projects a lack of respect to me, hence

The MIT interviewer was very patronising to Lucier 5:40 - "You're very important to us" etc and then going on to suggest that MIT are largely responsible for Lucier's continued acclaim, because he and they "play his music" and that's why the students have heard of him. Well, I certainly haven't heard of MIT but I certainly have heard of Alvin Lucier.
And of course, the interviewer didn't even see the delicacy of Alvin Lucier demurring afterwards.
Lucier, so understated and so un-grabby.

Also all of the transcribing (subtitling is so wrong). 4:06 'alvin lucier' transcribed as 'house in this year' . 2:06, a horror as well

Ok so I'm sitting in a room, different from one you are sitting in right now.

I would think that he would use a much wider pitch range instead of talking in a relative monotone.

It wouldn't make any difference. The resonant room frequencies would stay the same.
