I tried several combos such as DHF/DHR2, DHF/Aggressor, DHR2/DHR2, DHR2/Aggressor, Assegai/Dissector, Assegai x2. I think it depends on what the terrain and weather is like. I prefer a strong grip style of riding and don't like to slide the rear all that much because the trails are too narrow, steep and off-camber and one mistake means a 20 foot tumble.
I personally don't like the DHF all that much esp when there's a lot of low speed technical sections where it's damp going over lots of big, wet roots. The DHF gets better as the speed range goes up. The Aggressor IMHO is a dry-only hardpack tire, doesn't grip all that much when there's an inch of loose dirt over not so hard. If the trail is wet and you have to go over roots up or downhill, it just doesn't bite well. If the trail is peanut butter wet, the Aggressor ends up being slicks here in Hawaii where the dirt is clay.
The DHR2 up front was a big improvement over the DHF, in the back it's a great rear tire as well. The only problem is we have layers of pine needles on some of our trails and the DHR2 will pick up those horizontal pine needles, get stuck and make a very annoying scraping sound as it passes through the front mud guard.
The Assegai EXO/EXO+ tire is actually a faster rolling tire than either the DHF or DHR2, it didn't make much sense and it made me thinking I had too much air but I didn't. There's a video on YT showcasing that it actually has very good rolling speed and distance. The Dissector is essentially a Highroller 2 with a little more teeth, but it's no good over pine needles or over an inch of powdery dirt.
I finally tried another Assegai and run EXO in the front, EXO+ in the rear and so far this combo is the best in terms of stability and being able to ride confidently esp when the terrain is techy, even wet. I wish I tried this combo first.

Thanks for the awesome feedback. I agree with all of your assessments and you right train conditions play a big part. Did you try the 2.5 aggressor? The knobs are bigger and taller with better spacing. I may have to try an assegai out back because that’s a hot take for sure that it rolls better.

@@RideEatWander Yes, we tried both the 2.3 and 2.5WT. What you said about it being faster rolling is true, but the terrain has to be hard enough to not exceed the tread depth of the Aggressor. In Hawaii our weather is simple, it's either HOT (muggy or more muggy) or raining wet. Even a small amount of rain will keep the roots damp for days because of the tree cover over head. The Aggressor doesn't grip when going over a web of roots and most riders here dislike that tire.
When the weather's been very dry for weeks (or months), the top soil turns into baby powder, and it's "at least" an inch thick or more. This is why most of the guys prefer the taller lugs of the DHF and/or DHR2.
A lot of the guys shy away from the Assegai despite its merits because early reviews said it's a slow rolling tire, but that was the DH casing and soft compound rubber. The EXO/EXO+ tire is very different, the first time I tried running 2 of them I ran them 17psi F, 20psi R and thought I over-inflated them (I'm running CC inserts in both so pressures will vary without them).
I prefer to stick to the trail and maintain as much grip as I can as much of the trail has just about everything to try and break traction, even at very slow speeds. If you're like me I would definitely recommend giving Assegai x2 a try. IMHO it's a better behaved DHF/DHR2 combo (or DHR2 x2) and has none of the cons the other two tires have.

Which rubber compound do you prefer on the Assegai? MaxxTerra or MaxxGrip? Also what size rim? Seems some people are having this tire wash out on them because of maybe too flat of a tread profile. A 25mm - 30mm rim may be better to help round the tread profile a little.

I’ve used both and I would say Terra is fine in most applications. Grip lasts surprisingly long in terms of knob shape but loses its edge faster. I’ve only used them on 30mm internal rims and they have worked well. I wouldn’t go much past 31

Grear topic! I agree with you on the assegai, ultimate grip and very confidence inspiring. Currently I am running a 2.5 dhf with a 2.5 aggressor, because that’s what I have available. I am actually liking this combo better that I thought. The aggressor seems to hold up better than the DHR2 or the dissector. Grip is very good but you can break it loose easier than a dhr2. I would run a dissector rear if it came in a dual compound. For endurance rides (25 miles and over) I like the dissector front and a dual compound 2.4 Rekon rear.

Ya I wish they made the DC in more tough casings in other tires. It’s a good thing the 2.5 aggressor is so good. I wanted to try the dissector but with minimum time before I get my next bike and first race I need to keep testing at the minimum at least at the start

This year I switched to Michelin Wild Enduro2.40 i still use 23mm rim i had 2.30 Maxxis tyres before, but wild enduro is much more stable, it makes track stands a lot easier.

It’s hard to argue against the brand that supplies Motogp tires. I may have to give them a try. Thank you for the recommendation

@@RideEatWander it's probably the supportive side knobs, and good transition knobs, and sticky rubber probably help too. I can do more Extrme turning angle and not instability.

@@RideEatWander the side knobs are like a mud tyre but mid is fast rolling, I noticed the faster rolling too, even faster than hightoller 2.
      I run Cush Core Pro.

@@RideEatWander so fs rbes turning tyres I've tried, but not tried many, I was on Maxxis for years. But bmichelin wild enduro is easier to install, push into centre of rim, they even have a feature I've not seen before they have grooves in the side wall which help with holding the wheel by the tyre or during install getting bead into centre of rim.

@@RideEatWander I will see how durability and long every is but so fa eit looks promoting. I've not heard anything bad about these tyres yet. But I will see for my self. But I see why these tyres is getting popular.
