    Nice review, thanks for checking it out! Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much. We're eagerly awaiting the single-ply versions as well for trail use. One note on measuring the tire. In order to get the full volume of the tire, we recommend filling it to max PSI (use the lower of the numbers between what the tire says and what your rim manufacturer says) and leave the tire to sit overnight or up to 24 hours. This gives the casing a chance to stretch a little bit. When we take official measurements, we check to make sure it's still at max PSI and then measure the widest part of the tire whether that's the casing or the knobs. We take our measurements at max PSI because inevitably, someone out there will run their tires at max and we have to account for that when determining clearance. Cheers!

    Good review, everything you mentioned is spot on. Not sure if it was rims but the Assegai tires were a pain in the ass to install, they absolutely do pick up rocks way more so than the DHR and DHF tires, riding in wet dirt, the dirt tends to stick to the tires. The tires do work awesome in the corners and pretty much eat up or run through whatever you aim at. They definitely say “trust me” “push me “ and make you a more confident rider. I don’t care about grams so didn’t really notice the difference in weight, but all around great tire👍

    • @IslandBikeLife
      @IslandBikeLife  5 років тому

      Yup exactly true! The newer casing is out now and saves a bit of weight and the sidewalls are a bit easier to deal with vs the DH casing. Would still love an EXO casing option sometime down the line

    Thumbs up just for bothering to look it up, rather than "Dur, it's hard to say," like some other reviewers.
    I'm no Maxxis fanboi. I hate the overhyped DHF, (and Maxxis' inability to match nominal sizing,) but this tire fixes what I hate about the DHF, (no intermediate knobs.) Looking forward to trying this paired with an Aggressor.

    I did a review video on this tire in EXO+ 29er version 2.5. I will not use anything else again for pretty much everything. There is a weight penalty but this tire just inspires confidence for sure! Great video...

    I just ordered a pair of these in exo+ to replace the stock Bontrager tires that came with my Trek Rail. i was going to wait until i wore them out but but after a bad wash out corner crash - not waiting anymore. I was going to do this tire in front only and DHR2 in the rear but that DHR2 was not in stock. I rode a set of those on my last bike and loved them. Now one can crash on any tires but also having ones you trust seem to help a ton. And the washout was on a corner that i’ve ridden 100 of times never with an issue and the front tire was the one that washed out which always is more concerning.

    It’s a perfect enduro/downhill front tire for the PNW and especially here in Bend, OR. The grip on soft over hard is unparalleled......we’ve replaced 2 DHR 2’s with the DH casing on the back of my 100lb 11-year old’s bike this summer, and he’s still running the same Assegai he’s had all season on the front, after 30 park days.

      And last night I also fitted a new Assegai to the front of the bike in a 2.5" (29'er) EXO+ casing....can't wait to try this on the trails with my DHR2 on the rear.

    I run both 27.5 x 8 plus tires (Maxxis Rekon) and the 29 x 2.5 Assegai (up front with DHR 2.3 in rear) when running my 29's. The weight is definitely noticable over the plus wheels but the grip is phenomenal.

    • @IslandBikeLife
      @IslandBikeLife  4 роки тому +1

      I recently switched back to a DHF up front, it is a great tire. I also was trying to lighten my bike up and the Assegai didn’t help that cause.

      @@IslandBikeLife Thanks. I am in the PNW as well. I've talked to a few guys and it seems DHR2 front and back is a popular option. Since my rims are a little thin (24mm) I think I am going to go with the 2.3

    Did you run this tire on the front and back? how did it corner compared to the DHF?

    • @IslandBikeLife
      @IslandBikeLife  6 років тому +1

      I ran it both front/back and then just front. I preferred it only as a front because it grips so well. Too planted in the rear for me, I like the rear end to have some give to it. It grips better than a DHF and is very similar in corners. I am back on a DHF after 7 months on an Assegai up front and miss it. When it comes in EXO casing I will put one back on, the extra weight wasn’t for me in the long run for what I do.
