    I have played drums and percussion in various bands for years and am amazed by the popularity of these POV channels sprouting up on UA-cam Watching a drum technician setting up and breaking down drum kits is what I have been doing for years and I kind of think it’s funny that people want to watch this stuff
    It just reminds me of all the lugging around heavy equipment and then lugging it back home!! It’s not fun guys

      My back definitely doesn't appreciate all the work but playing is why we all got here in the first place. At the end of the day I get to play fun music that I enjoy with some really great friends so the hard work is worth it. Thanks for watching!

    I've been there & done that. Tips, mark off your carpet with a marker or duct tape where everything goes. Will save you a lot of time. I'm not seeing memory locks on you kit. Again, huge time saver. No fidgeting as you said. Don't break down anything you can still pack in the trailer. Just tips from someone that has done this for years.

      Great advice! I've done that in the past. I was actually hired by this band to be the bassist and ended up having to switch to drums so I'm slowly building my kit back up. Trying to make little improvements every gig.

    I save time with wheels on everything, cases for everything (I know it's it hard to stash them in small venues, so try to incorporate them) and looms, I typically have 3 looms for the A, B, and C rigs depending on how much PA is required. All this being said, I usually pull my own main power so my looms only work as long as I have that initial control. It's hard to be fast when every setup is custom fit to a venue.

    Also, take the time to make "bible" of how to set up the PA & give a copy to everyone. I did this & it reduced the time I spent setting up. You are the drummer. You have the most equipment to set up. Let the rest learn the basics of the PA. Trust me, I've been in your shoes. Also, consider a rack for your mounted Tom & cymbal arms. It can fold up, AND you can leave the mounts on it. You may have to think about how you load the trailer, but again, saves time!!!

    I use a Gibraltar rack system. Got it on sale at musicians friends for $199 years ago. Came with two side wings and the crash cymbal stands. With Joe's economy I bet it's more than that now. But it keeps me from adjusting the cymbal stands so much. Couple years back scored on some Gretch maple toms and snare. Brand new. Were a returned item. $280. Already made my own maple kick drum from keller. May just tell the guys the PA catches on fire sometimes and you don't know what to do. Then you won't have to do it

    Nice! What software do you use for your click? Is every bandmember using this click? Just a click or real song-progression? Sorry for these many questions.....

    • @DrumsAndDecibels
      @DrumsAndDecibels  2 місяці тому +1

      @@ddrsonor thank you for watching!
      We use backing tracks on a couple of songs in our current setlist. I download stems from karaoke-version.com and then mix the tracks/make my own click using the tracks as a guide, as I don't care for the sound most of the tracks come with. Everybody has a little bit of click in their ears to start off songs that don't begin with drums but I get a lot more than the others. That way we're all locked in and playing on time.
      PLUS, the software that runs the clicks/tracks also runs the light programming so it all syncs together.

    If I’m not using a rack then I start with the bass drum first, then the throne then the bass pedal, (easier to set up before anything else is in the way and allows you to get the proper spacing). Then I place snare and floor Tom, rack Toms last and once all that is in place , I set all cymbal stands). Much quicker with a rack of course. And no I don’t take too long to set either way , unless I am setting up my E kit, which is more involved.

      I believe, you're not wrong.
      Let me explain: They all play in-ear (direct sound projection to the ears) without amps. What you hear is a close camera audio capture of the drums, with the P.A. in a distance, so the audio from the p.a. has a longer air traveling distance (this causes an audible delay with the drums)
      If they used amps and montior wedges on stage, the travel distance was more direct for the camera audio.
      The best solution is, to capture a audiofeed from the mixer, the drumkit is miced up so this shouldn't be any problem at all 😎👍🏻

  • @morleychallenged
    @morleychallenged 2 місяці тому

    It must really suck to have a wall of glass behind the band. Too bad the drumkit is too close to the wall when the stage is so deep. You're stuck in the mud because of low-mids soaking every microphone into oblivion, then getting fed back into monitors and reflections from the house. Oh, by the way, drummers vocal against the mirrror when not in use? Is that on a footswitch? Ouch. Clip mics for the toms. You really set a lot of traps for everybody.
