    Question! I just bought this heater! I'm excited to be able to control this unit that will be installed in my teenager's room. However, we turn off our WIFI at night so she can't be on it. I've looked through the manual and I don't see what happens if it disconnects from the WIFI..... Can you tell me please?

    • @HeatStorm
      @HeatStorm  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Emmy! thanks for the message, the heater will remember your wifi settings and reconnect on its own as soon as the wifi network is turned on again. as far as the heater itself, it will stay on the last setting it was on when the wifi router gets turned off. for example if the thermostat was set to 76 degrees and you turn the wifi off. It will stay on and heating until it hits that 76 degrees. then it will cycle power on and off as needed to keep the temp at 76. Feel free to call if you have any more questions! 435-752-6611

    Any way you can help me figure out the average monthly cost to use this heater?

    • @HeatStorm
      @HeatStorm  4 роки тому

      Hi Mayhem! for sure, there's a lot that goes into it like how big your room is, how hot you want to keep it, how well insulated it it etc, but short answer is at 10 cents per kilowatt you would on average pay about 8 cents an hour, which would be worse case scenario (full blast all day every day, bad insulation, heater never turns off) $57 a month if you ran it full blast all day everyday. most people set it on a schedule to run during the night or day which would significantly reduce that number. But for measuring purposes you can use the 8 cents an hour metric (northern utah prices) for estimates so if you only needed it a couple hours a day, it would be around 16 cents a day. I hope that helps!

      Hi Rick! Thanks for the comment, I am sorry you are having trouble with connecting. Feel free to call us at 435-752-6611 and we would be happy to go through some trouble shooting with you! typically the problem will be one of the following: in order of operations: 1- The smart phone is not connected to the correct wifi: ex: 5ghz instead of 2.4, (sounds like you can rule this one out) 2- The wifi Router needs to be reset, 3- The heater is too far away from the router. 4- The smart life app just needs to be deleted and re-installed. 5-The heater itself has something wrong with it and needs to be swapped out for another one. I hope this helps! Feel free to call us at 435-752-6611 we want to make sure you get taken care of!

      I don't doubt you're a well seasoned WiFi user Rick, here are some of my pointers on WiFi troubleshooting:
      1. Put everything in the same room. Once you get your heater set up, you can unplug it and move it to its final destination. It will remember your WiFi.
      2. (Temporarily) set your WiFi network name to something simple. ie "24Ghz" for the network name and "1234" for the password. Set it back once you confirm your heater can connect to your WiFi. (Don't forget to connect your phone to the newly named 2.4Ghz network name!). This is my go to troubleshooting "KISS". Tear it down to the basics. Set it all back to your previous settings once you figure out if your heater can connect.
      3. Check your router that your security is WPA_PSK2 and is AES or AUTO (not TKIIP only).
      4. On your Smart Life app, get to where you've already entered your WiFi name and Password and you're ready to click "Confirm". Then click the Up button on the heater for the WiFi icon fast blink. THEN click the Confirm button to have it start the search. My phone was positioned 2 inches from control buttons of the heater.
      5. Got any spare WiFi routers lying around? Just for testing sake? Ask a buddy?
      6. Triple assure yourself that your router is a dual 5Ghz/2.4Ghz and you're connecting to the 2.4Ghz. I made the mistake of having my phone on my 5Ghz network when the heater instructions explicitly says it can only support 2.4Ghz. I name my networks with either it ending "5Ghz" or "24Ghz", so I know which one I'm on to avoid this, but I still had a brain fart. I suspect that's why you said "I'm on 2.4ghz as well." but....still...we're all human. :)
      One other thing I noticed when setting my heater up, the WiFi blinking light will go out for about 15 to 30 seconds and then came on solid blue. Then my phone said it connected. So be a little patient, but not 5 minute patient.

    • @rickg.5144
      @rickg.5144 5 років тому

      Aaron Jensen Thanks for the reply. I have a Tenda mesh WiFi system which gets full signal where the heater is located. I can easily set my phone to connect to 2.4Ghz only for 30 mins through the mesh system app this is a feature in the settings specifically for setting up devices that only work on 2.4Ghz. The Smart Life app takes about a minute and a half to 2 minutes to search for the heater. The heater will only blink the WiFi icon for maybe 30-45 seconds then stops blinking. I do not believe it’s long enough time for the app to connect to the heater. I have restarted the router, the mesh nodes, and the heater many times. I have a call into the manufacturer per their request but have not received a callback from their tech support as promised. This is the 2nd heater that’s doing the same exact thing.

    • @AaronJensen2375
      @AaronJensen2375 5 років тому +1

      @@rickg.5144 I had the same experience (not enough time) when I was first trying to connect to my WiFi. When it eventually did, it was within the 45 seconds the heater was doing its search. If it doesn't connect by the time the heater stops searching, it's not ever going to. Don't ask me why they designed the heater to "search" for 45 seconds while the Smart Life app searches for 2 minutes. But don't think the mismatch of search times has anything to do with it. It's just annoying you have to wait for the Smart Life app to finish searching. Good luck!
