Remember, you aren’t restricted to these spices. Feel free to customize this to your liking.
Awesome video... quick question though... is this a general purpose mix good for meat? I'd be interested to hear if you do a seperate blend for chicken compared to say goat/lamb.
Hi! This would definitely work as a all purpose/ general blend. I use it for all meats. However, usually with red meats, I use more of this blend (most recipes will call for more masala) and I use less turmeric. You can also add whole spices to more “gamey” meats.
thank you so much...have been looking for masala in fiji stores, couldn't find any...will definitely make some.
My pleasure! I know with the current COVID-19 situation, importing and exporting of goods has become harder. I would say if you can’t find some of the more less common spices like mace and star anise, you can totally leave them out. :)
This is awesome Romi , definitely try this over the weekend 👌.
Thanks Samiya! I’m sure you’ll enjoy this in a chicken curry! It’s a delicious blend!
Homemade masala is literally the best, the flavors are more fragrant and tastier😍
Agreed! So, so, good! 😘
Thanks alot. I made this today. The smell reminds of back home.
You’re welcome Sanam! The aroma truly is nostalgic. I love the smell of freshly grinned spices.
That's awesome, mostly when we buy the ready-made from Indian stores they look muddier. I will try your way and see the difference.
Please can you do the masala for the mango pickles? I mean what ingredients do I need and the brief method to make it, Fiji Style. Thank you. Anil CA USA.
Hi! Thank you! You’ll enjoy this so much! It’s a very good blend! I haven’t made mango achar by myself yet but I am experimenting with a blend and will write out a recipe once it’s finalized. Thanks!
Looks awesome, Romi! I feel like I can smell it 🔥
Thank you Reshmi! 😘 I made your green seasoning the other day and man! I’m in love! I have it frozen in ice cubes in my freezer and throw it in curries all the time! It is awesome for marinating meats too!
Thanks very much, much needed recipe.
You're welcome! :)
I can smell this video!!! My Aaji adds some hardi powder to hers as well and she doesn't use jabitree in hers but she does add mangrail :))
Thank you Navin! It smells amazing! I’ve never really used Kalonji but will have to get it when I go to the Indian store. I like to add the hardi separately but I do have another mix where I mix all of the general masalas with some dry herbs to make a “curry” powder. :)
I love hearing about the variances in otherwise similar recipes from the same country!!! do you guys call it kalonji in Fiji? My grandmother, who of course is much much older refers to it as mangrail but I do know it goes by the name kalonji in the northern parts of India :)
Wow thanks
My pleasure 😁
yummy homemade masala. Have a wonderful day
Thank you! You too!

Thank you love! I wish I could make more videos right now. Time just doesn’t allow it right now but I hope to get back to it sooner than later! ♥️
