The shallow deli cups I got from The Spider Shop but the style of them changes every time I get them

Try using Tom Morands substrate mix he has a video on it I have 2 h. Macs that are 1 1/2 inch slings and I have them in coco fiber damp substrate I only see mold around the water dish I clean it whenever I see mold. Once they get bigger I’ll rehouse them in a bio enclosure with Tom’s substrate mix.

@@taranchies1505 yes also if you check out the tarantula collective that dude can show you what he does with his substrate also. It’s pretty cool. He most does bio active terrariums but honestly it’s worth it I’ll be going that route as well once my slings get bigger. Honestly it’s not even that much more expensive.

Cool video Taranchies the Springtails also eat mites and their eggs they actually eat most of the waste the Tarantulas leave behind basically they are a mini clean up crew just subbed to your channel too 😉👌

Thanks very much for that info! Do you know if they also keep flies at bay/eat the fly larvae?

@@taranchies1505 Thats ok am not sure but I do know they reduce the waste and mold too that might reduce the amount of flies was just thinking what substrates do you use that might be the cause of the mold ?

@@michaeltaylor2449 The mould seems to occur in the ones where I use coco fibre and vermiculite. I mostly use that as being in the UK I can't get hold of some of the ones recommended in the US. I know people like Dave's little beasties use organic potting soil but I stay away from that as I have heard horror stories of fertilizer being mixed in the odd bag and killing lots of tarantulas in someone's collection. I hear the mould isn't dangerous, just unsightly, so overall I feel safer with the organic coco fibre (coco and coir brand), but open to any other suggestions!

@@taranchies1505 am the same I stay clear of potting soil I buy the substrates that the Spider shop prepares there is several different types I used to use coco fibre and always got mould like you said it dont do the Tarantulas any harm just looks horrible but things like Mantis and Stick Insects mould can kill them

@@michaeltaylor2449 I will have another look at the spider shop ones thanks! I think I steered away from them as I couldn't see an ingredients list and on some coco fibre I got from them there were dodgy parts in it like lumps of plastic. However I haven't actually tried their prepared bags.
