Continuing on our mini Euro trip, after a few days in Belgium it was time to fly to Ireland... But, we had a 10 hour layover in London. So, if you know us, we took advantage of that opportunity and got out to explore the amazing city of London. It was our first time in England and our first time in London and needless to say, we'll be back!
But, next stop.. Dublin!

That's not Westminster Abbey, that's the Houses of Parliament, which is where the Parliament of the UK is housed. Kinda like the Capitol Building which houses the congress in the US.

Westmister abbey is a church. It's a completely different building. The palace of Westminster and the houses of parliament are different words for the same thing.

Not surprised you prefer Tower Bridge to London Bridge - the current London Bridge was only built around 1970 - the one before that was sold, dismantled, and ended up in Arizona. The one the nursery rhyme is about was the medieval one which had houses built on it.

NEVER take the Heathrow Express...it's a rip off...always just take the regular train into London from the exact same station for a fraction of the price. It's hardly any slower and sometimes even quicker. Advice from a Londoner here...just subscribed after finding you through the Endless Adventure!

I'm from Canada 🇨🇦 and I'm traveling to Italy in 3 weeks. On my way back home I have a 24 hour layover in London. I'm excited even though it will be a short stay!
At 5:33 the building 'you don't know what it is" is now a hotel. Many years ago it was the HQ of the Port of London Authority which my Dad used to work in about 50 yrs ago.
WOW you guys really got around London and managed to grab some fish and chips! Love how you guys said "BuckingHAM" hahaha! I wanna know what Amanda got to eat at Borough Market though - I always get a bit overwhelmed with choice at those outdoor street food markets! Also, I didn't know about the Ed Sheeran corner, how awesome! xoxo

FYI the "old building" is an hotel and the former home of the Port of London Authority; the "big building" is the former home of the former London County Council but is now two hotels, the London Dungeon and the London Aquarium plus a MacDonald's!

only 10 hours in London...hard to prioritize but you guys covered some ground nice...you are so right public transportation in London is way way overpriced taxis to trains and all between
We tried to see as much as we could, 10 hours, 10 days, 10 weeks.. probably never enough time to really get in and see everything it has to offer.
Heathrow Express is essentially a private "public" transport system...Heathrow Connect is much cheaper and only takes a little longer....but I guess if you only have 10 hours in a city of over 600 square miles...oh, and the tube is cheaper still, but takes up to an hour!

Can you explain the process of going out of the airport. if your final destination is Asia, Do you need to fill up custom paper in airplane. How does it work.
This is something you should Google to confirm but I do believe you must complete a customs paper if you're entering/exciting to and from anywhere outside the EU. Best of luck!
Did you get transit visa or visit visa?
We are planning to do this in 17 h layover time.( I have US green card. ) Will I need visa to go out of airport?

Did you feel that it was worth it to go into the city for just a few hours? We are looking at a trip with a similar 10hr Heathrow layover and weren't sure if it made sense to try to squeeze in a few sights and rush back.
Totally worth it if you don’t know when you’ll be back. We had a great time, but you have to be ready to moooove it along all day! 😄

Heathrow Express is the most expensive line in Europe. If you have the time catch the Tube it’s way cheaper but slooow 🤷🏻♂️

The NYC Couple you commented on the nice buildings but don't forget we in NY have the most iconic skyscraper in the world with the empire state building & of course the Freedom tower is a beauty and for what it stands for you know well being a military Man and you both pround Americans ! one day like to visit spain ! got awesome architecture !

I wish people would understand that “Fish and Chips” is not some sort of example of British high cuisine. It was simply the product of the development of the railways allowing fish to be served fresh anywhere in the country in the days before efficient refrigeration. It was Britain’s first national “fast food”. The McDonalds of the 1800s, intended to be eaten out of a paper bag while walking home, but was cheap and nutritious. That was it.
And “fish and chips” is not real fish and chips unless eaten with salt and vinegar. Lots of it, especially the “vinegar”. The word vinegar in quotes because traditionally the “vinegar” was a very unrefined version of vinegar.
If you eat fish and chips without salt and vinegar (lots of vinegar) it’s not proper fish and chips.

You shouldn't have got the Heathrow express. The Piccadilly line runs into central London for £4
