One fun little headcanon I've had for a while about the in-universe 'card lore' about all the archetypes that spun out of Yugi's deck is that Yugi's monsters were once all part of a classic D&D/JRPG-style adventurer party who went on all these big quests together, representing the arcs of the show. And when the party finally disbanded after their final adventure (ie; when the anime ended), each of the members would go off on their own solo adventures, representing all the archetype development they got: Buster Blader became the Destruction Swordsman and adopted Buster Whelp, Gaia formed his order of knights (my theory that many of the Gaia Knights are actually various members of an ORDER of knights founded by the og Gaia), Summoned Skull returned to the Dark World and became a powerful Archfiend, the Poker Knights formed their own order, etc.
So, funny story. You're not too far off. See, there's a series of monsters called the "Skilled Magicians". There's five of them, and they all share an effect. When they have three spell counters, they summon a different monster. The first two were the White and Black magicians. They summon the Buster Blader and the Dark Magician, respectively. Later on, we got Blue, Red, and Brown. They summon Gaia, Kuriboh, and any Archfiend (despite what TGS says, the Summoned Skull DID become an archetype).
1:05 you ask what those cards have in common: Kazuki Takahashi was into table top like DND, so Yugi's deck is really DND themed, at least in the beginning. Even Duelist Kingdom, if you consider tabletop roleplaying, is basically roleplaying so that's why the Castle Of Dark Illusions scene worked. It's stupid to us but not to a table top player trying to figure his way out of a situation.
This has been true for most of the series. Yes, they seemingly follow the rules more closely in Battle City, but most duels still revolve around one big boss monster being summoned and you having to find a way around their effects. In Battle City, those were mostly God Cards, but also Exodia or Bakura's ouija board deck.
The Milennium Exodia deck is really more of Yugi's grandpa's deck I would argue. Celtic Guardian technically has an archetype, but I'm surprised they haven't done more with it.
Why would you when it can top a Japanese regional in modern yugioh 😂 that will never not be absolutely hilarious to me that a dude won it all with a Celtic guardian turbo deck
There are a ton of elves too, honestly they could just take all the elves with celtic guardian (elf swordsman in japan) and just make them all celtic guard monsters. Mystical Celtic Guard Elf, Dark Celtic Guard Elf, maybe even include stuff like winged dragon celtic guardian of the fortress and beaver celtic guard and feral celtic guard imp or something
i personally saw his duelist kingdom deck as a sort of odd D&D party, and then when they broke up after the 1st adventure, they ended up forming their own stories themselves this is just how i saw his weird hot pot of monsters personally though it would make sense with him being a king of games, and what not
Little Yugi used both the Magnet Warriors and Gadget in the final duel against the Pharoah. He played the Gadgets at the beginning and then used the Magnet Warriors with the Trap Card to reflect Slifer's effect back at all 3 God cards.
@@scottmacaluso9102 I should clarify I mean he didn't use the Magnet Warriors. His final deck in the manga had Marshmallon, the Silent duo, Blockman, and Gandora. A lot things like Summoned Skull, Gaia, and many other classics were added in the anime.
If I recall, a few spin-offs like a fusion form, a ritual monster, an XYZ card, that all basically say 'this is Summoned Skull btw, and if it dies out comes another Summon Skull'. Be cool if Skull got a fusion with Dark Magician/Magician Girl, or some kind of new form forged by the Claw of Hermos.
I mean TECHNICALLY Summoned Skull was the first in the Archfiend archetype. The Chess Archfiends have a retrain of him with Skull Archfiend of Lightning and the Empire Archfiends have the retrain Archfiend Commander.
1:08 I always figured yugi’s deck had a “sword and sorcery” type theme to it kinda like DnD. Most of his monsters are wizards, knights, and other mythical stuff you’d find in a DnD game
Chimeras were the surprising one for me. Gazelle was originally part of its own completely unrelated archetype and they basically jumped right past those with the new support. If we see new Toon support, I'm definitely expecting cards based on these new retrains
If Konami ever does another single player videogame the "Phantom Beasts" Gazelle was originally part of would make a great starter deck so they can skip the "level 2 beatdown" phase you always see at the beginning of those. It is just complex enough to be interesting for experienced players but not so complex to be intimidating for new players and does most of what a modern deck does at a basic level, limiting the learning curve needed for new players.
If we get Toon Support, i hope it has cohesion with Relinquished as well would be a great way to tie the decks together, given Relinquished and Thousand Eyes Restrict are Pegasus’s boss monsters
@@leoultimaupgraded9914 Personally I want to see more like Toon BLS (& maybe a Toon Relinq eventually) that try to emulate the different summoning methods using main deck monsters. A lot of these Duel Monster-era reimaginings are fusion based so it makes sense to go there imo.
Dark Magician, Summoned Skull, Gaia the Fierce Knight, and Buster Blader are all relate to the light and dark chaos magic theme according to their lores. Dark Magician is a dark type that has its light type alteration/predecessor Mahad, Summoned Skull has the fiend magic attribute that can summon lightning, Gaia the Fierce Knight is the pre-evolution of chaos soldier (Black Luster Soldier), Buster Blader has dark element and is the fusion comrade of the aforementioned dark magician as well as the Yin Yang counter relationship to the infamous light dragon (Blue Eyes White Dragon).
@TheJoethud22 Nah, I was wrong, don't know what I was thinking. Yugi used Magical Dimension to destroy Ra. In the manga, one of its effects is that if you control 2 Spellcasters then you can destroy one monster your opponent controls, and then those 2 Spellcasters are sent to the GY. He used Magical Dimension to allow DM and DMG to destroy Ra. The anime does have Yugi use Magical Dimension, and uses it to tribute Obelisk and Gazelle to summon DM. I guess the anime is still using the manga's effect since that effect doesn't allow you to destroy a monster. So the only reason Ragnarok even exists is because the anime had Yugi use the wrong effect of Magical Dimension, or it was intentional because Magical Dimension wouldn't have been "cinematic" enough of a climax.
Louise with Feral Imp and Griffore retrains into a new Horn of the Unicorn archetype or Louise tagging with Celtic Guardian into a vanilla warrior archetype (or both with Louise as the bridge piece) would be sick. Make it happen, Konami.
I actually really wish we had seen more of YUGI in Yugi's deck. When you think about it, Yugi's deck doesn't really match his personality type, which is kind and shy and emotional. The deck they used throughout Battle City, among other arcs, more so reflected the Pharaoh, rather than Yugi. Or rather, their shared soul. It's why it was so flexible and easily changed around. It isn't until Yugi is truly on his own in the Memory World Arc that he has HIS own deck that reflects HIM. I like the use of the term "flavors" for each of his decks you can mold your own to be around, and honestly...ngl a stall/defensive strat isn't a bad one to rely on. The best offense, is a good defense. Plus some of HIS own monsters are just god damn cool asf and deserve more attention.
In a similar vein, I wish that Konami would make an Arkana Dark Magician deck. Maybe make it so that its magic cards only work on its version of DM (Darkening Magician?) and vanilla DM cards to prevent it from just being included in standard DM decks. Arkana has a line about designing his deck around taking Yugi's DM away from him, so maybe that could be its theme? You get your DM on the field and have to sacrifice it or your other cards to remove cards from your opponent? Maybe give the DM a recursion ability to bring it back from the graveyard if it's sacrificed to use its abilities? Maybe they can special summon themselves at the cost of some lifepoints like a built in Dark Magic Curtain?
Didn't the Silent archetype and Gandora get retrains + some support, quite recently? Plus, Yugi's DSOD deck fits him well too. Its basically all about defense and then counterattacking in huge bursts, with some OTK and tech options ,like the Gadgets thrown in there for good measure
@filipvadas7602 I did really like his DSOD deck. Let me tell you seeing the cards HAVE THE DESCRIPTION of what the cards do in the film took me by complete surprise at first. Then I realized "oh yeah this is post the Manga not the dub"
I think this is kind of what the Shining Sarcophagus deck was meant to do. Excluding Dark Magician, they are exclusively cards Yugi used without Yami during Season 5. Though, I do wish the archetype was a little larger, since there is more material to pull from there, but that is probably just a me thing.
One of my favourite nuances to archetypes formed from aspects of the anime is when an otherwise one-off/uncommon interaction forms a new dynamic in the group. For example, Catapult Turtle once gave Gaia the Dragon Champion a helping launch. So when Gaia expanded, gaining new dragons and fusions, they reached out and gave Catapult Turtle its own revamp as the Artillery Turtle to help the deck search and set up combos. Likewise, the three Face Knights consistently got tributed for Slifer, so naturally their archetype got a magic card that helps search and summon Slifer and also a Queen Knight revamp, Arcana Triumph Joker that essentially acts as a second Slifer. Personally, I'd love to see a revamp/expansion on my old favourite Wingweaver, using peace and hope to sway and pacify enemies. What monster would you wish to see get new abilities or pals?
what's funny is that due to the wording of the card, Thunderspeed Summon I think its called, the face knights can also search and summon ra as well as slifer, including ra's sphere mode, what makes it even better, is that they do it on the turn of the opponent. The archetype also has a spell, trap and monster that can all recur on the end phase meaning you'll always have the 3 cards in hand for 3000 for slifer
Hm... That's a tough question. I guess the first thing that comes to mind is that, while I'm very happy with Yubel finally getting expanded into a proper archetype, I can think of one monster in particular that Yubel used in the anime that wasn't remade into a new support card: Regenerating Rose. I kinda wish they could do something to revamp that one, if only to make the set feel more complete. Actually, Card Ejector from that same duel is another good example. I've always been fond of it, but like... Its presence in Jaden's deck has always been baffling. It's got no synergy with his E-Heroes or his Neo-Spacians. It seems... tangentially related to Card Trooper and Card Blocker, two other cards Jaden had used, but it lacks the self-milling effects that the other two had in common. It didn't even accomplish anything of note in its one appearance; Jaden summoned it and tried to use its effect, and Yubel immediately negated and destroyed it with a random trap. I would _love_ to see them come back and do something interesting with this one.
Speaking of Zelda, the legendary heroes arc 43-45 did feel like Zelda a little bit! Even Iru (played by Misty's voice actor) the fairy was a direct reference to Navi!
Well, Celtic Guardian fits well with the noble night Archetype especially the Infernabels. They could always combined find a deck based on it with mystical elf.
They could make more more mystical elf card similar to the magician girls. One would special effects that prevent. You're appointed from using card effects or attacking you directly passing over your monster. They can also make upgrades to Celtic guardian, Like Celtic Knight or Celtic Captain. One elf for offense , one elf for defence.
In Yugi’s earlier decks there were a few rock types including the giant soldier of stone, it has retrains but a theme of his other rocks with the stone soldier support could tie in nicely to the magnet warrior archetype and generic rock support.
I feel like the Mushroom Man archtype isn't too far out of the realm of possibility because Yugi, in the OG manga, used Skull Servant in his first duel with Kaiba and now he has his own archtype. Additionally, Mushroom Man was in said first duel too.
@@Straven93it's as much a stretch as other decks listed here Red-Eyes Grandpas exodia deck etc. Also he literally listed Summoned Skull as not having an archetype so it's a reasonable correction
Even still, he has SS and had REBD, and there are tons of support that blends those two together, so there should be a REBD/Summon Skull deck here too.
@@Pasta_Parade they were archfiends day 1 they just weren't translated properly. Plenty of early cards weren't dubbed properly into their archetypes because archetype synergy and support wasn't really a thing in the earliest days of the game. That doesn't make them any less part of the archetype. If you were to use that logic you could say any card that wasn't made with day 1 archetype support wasn't always a part of their own archetype but that doesn't make sense especially since a lot of them spawn around supporting one or two initial cards and building around them as is the case with the archfiends but the same is true for basically every card showcased in this video. You're argument hinges entirely on a solely Western and uninformed perspective it's entirely moot.
3:22 Palladium Oracle Mana came out August of 2019. I believe it was with the tin that had Exodia the legendary defender. Yugi also used both of them in a live duel against Kaiba lol
The Oracle Mana card is actually out, it’s limited edition, but it is out. I actually have it with me while writing this. Came out like 3 or 4 years ago.
I’d love to see a modernised Summoned Skull deck. There’s individual cards, like Summoned Skull, the Fusion, Synchro, Xyz and Ritual retrains, etc. but I’d love to see such an iconic card from the second ever full anime duel and an early metagame staple get its day in the sun once more.
I think it would have been cool if BLS got other monsters for each extra deck type. It’s really random how there’s a link monster and nothing else. They could be centered around using the level 4 beginning and evening twilight knights. The gimmick could be they each need 1 light and 1 dark to be summoned. The synchro could have the ability to make one of the knights a tuner, similar to the summoning condition of cyber slash harpie. The XYZ would be rank 4 instead of 8, but could be a search or banish from the graveyard to activate the effects of the level 4 knights
Have you ever thought how great it would be to do a breakdown of the Jaden vs Dr. Banner aka Amnael duel!!! or the duel between Jaden and the lawyer Howard X Miller who tried to win by decking out Jaden?!! Imma keep commenting this til it happens!
For a new Yugi Deck idea, I think it'd be cool if he got one based directly on Spell Counters and would contain retrains of all of Yugi's/Yami's Spellcasters. This would be based prominently on Breaker the Magical Warrior along with the Silent Magicians, but would also have Mystical Elf, Magician's Valkyria, Odd Vindictive Magician, and possibly Magician of Faith. Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl would also be included, of course. And Maybe even a Sorcerer of Dark Magic retrain to act as an alternate Spell Counter boss monster, so you wouldn't need Endymion.
I think it was because of your trivia videos that got me into your content in the first place and the fact that you basically nearly touched on every arc type Yugi used, definitely proves that your content is great. With that said now that you've mentioned that there's a couple of these that you haven't done I think a good restructuring is in order but great job with the video!
The first deck was Solomon Motou's, don't forget. Though, Yugi did do surgery to it right after Duelist Kingdom and right before Battle City. Illusion as repurposed from the old monster type Dream that was in Dark Duel Stories. Make a Rude Kaiser deck, cause he had the card for the first duel in the dub as well.
Imagine a Yugi deck with all those vanilla one off monsters from like Duelist Kingdom that eventually got phased out once Battle City rolled around: Celtic Guardian/Elf Swordsman, Winged Guardian of the Fortress, Beaver Warrior, Feral Imp
Now I want a group cards of Yugi's monsters coming together for a reunion for a gathering with their archetypes, like a family reunion. I know it sounds goofy, but I think it's a nice way to connect them all
One of the decks is a Summoned Skull/Archfiend Deck. Most people don’t think of it, but there is an Archfiend fusion, ritual, synchro, and xyz that all are treated as Summoned Skull while on field or in the gy, and bring back Summoned Skull when destroyed
My favorite thing about retrains of old archetypes is that they make those cards new, exciting, and fun. Sometimes they're busted, but for the most part they just become a fun but still somewhat playable deck to mess around with. It reminds me of older Yu-Gi-Oh, where a deck/archetype would be strong but not wholly unbeatable and immediately game winning
The Archfiend archetype for Summoned Skull. There are plenty of Archfiend “subarchetypes” like the chess and more generic Archfiend cards like Archfiend’s Palabrynth, and it has one variant of Summoned Skull for every summoning mechanic other than Pendulum.
honestly Joey's deck was fun because it led to so much tension watching him play. You KNEW he had strategy he was freakin' taught by Yugi dammit. But...God he relied on luck way too much and I would sometimes end up yelling at the screen for it lol.
I hold deck design on a mucjh higher standard. Anime can't build a functioning deck without relying on ass pulls, plot Armor, and opponents playing badly. Also anime decks are always full of jank
BTW There is a "Yugi" Deck you can play. the "Shining Sarcophagus" Archetype encompasses a few Yugi cards into one archetype. Dark Magician, Gandora,Silent Swordsman,Silent Magician,Stronghold, Summon Skull and a few others have variants in this archetype.
I really would love to play a full Gandora Deck. And I really want a Komouri Dragon Archetype Deck. Its such a simple but iconic Monster. So iconic in fact it even existed before the actual TCG in the Manga. And I would love to see a revitalized card of that little dragon. Be it an effect monster, an extra deck version, Fusion, Synchro, Ritual would be so awesome and I guess Ritual would fit the best because of its Darkness Nature. Whatever, I want to See that little iconic critter brought back into the modern day.
I've played with a Summoned Skull deck. They have ritual, fusion, synchro, XYZ. It was kind of fun. I mixed it with red dragon archfiend. Yes, see who else had decks that branched off into their own archetypes. Might want to combine those videos, depending on how many decks
I would think big shield gardna deck would be kinda fun seeing it work like the goblins attack force cards only reverse, like if they are attack they are then switch to attack mode, and can’t be summon in attack so they have to be facedown. Another bonus they could have would be something really amazing is they would have their own archetype effect of being able to then face up defense rather down
Celtic guardian got into Noble knight support, summoned skull into archfiends and red eyes, marshmallon and gandora are in the silent one, mystical elf betrayed yugi for blue eyes support, Big shield gardna became a family man and has an entire series, archfiend of gilfer is...well, an archfiend, and even mirror force got support in the form of mirror force launcher.
I think a Feral Imp deck would be a cool idea. They could expand further on the idea from that one scene where Yugi equips horn of the unicorn to feral imp
Kite has two Kuribohs both to represent Galaxy and Photons which the Photon one is seeing a lot of play because of Tenpai Dragon that is Kuriphoton along with that Detonating Kuriboh is the most recent one
Actually Palladium Oracle Mana, came out in the TCG quite a while ago on 2019's Gold Sarcophagus Tin, as a Promo as part of promo cards pack (5 cards per pack), of 14 promo cards, 11 brand new (back then) cards for the TCG and 3 worldwide. Some of the cards on that pack were, Blue-Eyes Alternative Ultimate Dragon, Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon, Magician of Black Chaos MAX, Alternate art of the Egyptian Gods (Takahashi's Shonen Jump Art), amoung other new o reprints for the TCG and the 3 worldwide releases Nibiru, Dark Ruler No More and Dimension Shifter.
of all the cards that are left the Celtic Guardian or Summoned Skull would be the most reasonable and predictable ones. They already have some random supports or new forms so why not make them into a proper deck. Also Gazelle being a "Phantom Beast" essentially means it is part of the Phantom Beast archetype and also technically the Mecha Phantom Beasts as well, just a little fun fact
What I kinda love, is that a good few of these archetypes have grown so large that you can make like 2 or 3 decks out of them. Also the Summoned Skull, does sort of have its own deck. With the various Archfiend cards of different types that all count themselves as Summoned Skull when on the field, but that series needs more support to be able to play on its own.
Palladium Oracle Mana came out in the same tin set as red eyes alternative black dragon, Blue eyes alternative ultimate dragon and other cards with Kazuki Takahashi’s signature
I'm guessing that there's gonna be a video or a few more focusing on the cards that Duelist like Kaiba, Pegasus, Joey, and several others that they used and how they become archetypal decks.
There’s also the magician girl deck from the movie, and the chaos deck came from BLS envoy of the beginning. And I guess technically the Celtic guardian archetype, if you can really call it that, and the archfiend skull deck from summoned skull
You know I believe it especially if you think about his grandfather owning a card shop and him being the king of games he probably just get support for any of his cards that weren't archetype. I like to believe that each tournament yugi entered he wanted to showcase his new cards
Thank you for making this video. Your videos are always awesome. I've tried to make every single yugi deck. If it wasn't for cost, I would have them. I was most excited when I deck built a deck with dark magician, buster blader, blue-eyes, red-eyes, and felgrand. It is nice to be able to make a unique deck with good synergy that doesn't just stick to 1 archetype or archetypes designed to go together. Reminds me of the days where archetypes weren't so prevalent and everyone had Mashup decks of whatever you had.
mystical elf could make for a cool archtype, play into her defensive style and make monsters loose attack to do damage back at them. It could be a whole elf kingdom with different elves as the monsters or even doing something like the danger!! cards and base all the monsters on celtic or old medieval "mystical" creatures.
The ones that come to mind are these: Dark Magician (Palladium Oracle, Legendary Dragon Knights) Magician Girls Magnet Warriors and Electromagnet Warrior King Queen and Jack (Face Cards) Phantom Beasts (Gazelle and Berfomet) Exodia Black Luster Soldier (Blue Eyes, Dragon Master Knight) Gaia the Fierce Knight and Curse of Dragon (Catapult Turtle) Buster Blader
I'd mix the following up: Summoned Skull + Archfiend of Gilfer = A fiend deck that focuses on destruction and weakening enemy attack power. The Summoned Skull retrain will be the main hitter while the Archfiend retrain is a sort of a support card that can equip to Summoned Skull or an enemy target. Giant Soldier of Stone + Feral Imp + Winged Dragon of the Fortress + Beaver Warrior + Big Shield Gardna = A deck that resembles sort of a fortress defense wherein Giant Soldier of Stone is like the defensive fortress/wall, Feral Imp is the gargoyle perched on top, Beaver Warrior/Big Shield Gardna is the generic footsoldier and Winged Dragon of the Fortress is the offensive defender which shoots fireballs at approaching forces. Gandora kinda exists as a deck already, i'd probably make Koumouri Dragon a support (Maybe a searcher for Gandora?) since its actually a Dark-Dragon type which fits with Gandora.
I’m not saying I want a reboot of DM, but it would be cool to have a story where characters have multiple decks (like Bastion), and Yugi would play different decks for different situations.
I want to see a Catapult Turtle archetype that retrains it for the modern day to not be just a burn FTK type of card. Focus on turtle shells, retrain Magical Hats into a Shell Game type of card, Catapult gets different effects based on how many monsters you control and want to tribute at one time or what the highest Atk on your board is (Dragon Champion-level of Atk or higher gives piercing to all, etc.), and so on.
I always loved the character design of Breaker the Magical Warrior. I'm not sure it would be possible to build an archetype around him (I know he has a handful of related cards but I don't think a full archetype) but I'd love to see them try.
Summoned Skull does not have an Archtype but it does have a Fusion Synchro XYZ and Effect Monster Counterparts that i think represent Different stages of Evolution for him.
I would like to see a new deck gimmick of Yugi’s using a defense deck strategy. Using retrain versions of Giant Soldier of Stone, Big Shield Gardna, and Mystical Elf into an archetype, and give it Fusions ofc with quick play spells, and traps that can activate from hand (only during battle phase when you control the particular archetype) 🤔 🤷 Or another gimmick deck focusing on pierce damage with using equip spells (that all can switch to another monster on your field only during the battle phase once per turn, and they all say “if sent to the graveyard, you can added it during the next standby phase) with using retrain versions of Beaver Warrior, Silver Fang, Griffore, Feral Imp, Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress #1 & #2 into an archetype and give them fusions as well with the boss being a Knighted Unicorn 🦄🤨 and BOOM “Horn of the Unicorn” archetype 😅
I truly love these videos, they give so much insight on the yugioh tcg. And not the mention, the anime itself with the could blank beat blank series. I am glad to find this channel to learn more of yugioh
I just wish they gave us more support for Sorcerer of Dark Magic Blue-Eyes Shinning Dragon is already easier to summon with recent cards but not Yugi's Movie ace monster.
Mystical Elf would be kind of cool I imagine a Deck where you get absurd amounts of Life Points and Monster Protections and therefor have to pay a lot of Lifepoints as well Maybe even playing around with the Defens Position as well
Also: 3:22 I can’t believe I own a card TGS Anime didn’t know about! 😄 It was pretty cheap when I bought it, but the foil was really beautiful. Not that good for a DM deck, but it was a great Millennium World reference!
11:53 1 mistake, 1 card supposed to be NOT get included in 1 section... & that is? Soul-Dwelling Blue-Eyes. That 1's a part of Millennium archetype, not Shining Sarcophagus
You know what connection with Dark Magician doesn't has modern support? The spell counter/Endymion crossover, but in part makes sense because Endymion master of magicians is not part of Yugi's monsters.
Yugi has a card: Konami crafts an entire archetype around it.
Joey has a card: eh... slap red-eyes on it and clock out early
Still need the line star archetype
Dude time wizard is an archetype...and gambling deck 😂
the disrespect konami has towards my boy makes me so mad, at least make red-eyes better 😭
@@isamuddin1 i still dread the day we get "red-eyes time magician"
@@matthewpopow6647 Some protection effect with Brooklyn Rage counters, I imagine.
One fun little headcanon I've had for a while about the in-universe 'card lore' about all the archetypes that spun out of Yugi's deck is that Yugi's monsters were once all part of a classic D&D/JRPG-style adventurer party who went on all these big quests together, representing the arcs of the show. And when the party finally disbanded after their final adventure (ie; when the anime ended), each of the members would go off on their own solo adventures, representing all the archetype development they got:
Buster Blader became the Destruction Swordsman and adopted Buster Whelp, Gaia formed his order of knights (my theory that many of the Gaia Knights are actually various members of an ORDER of knights founded by the og Gaia), Summoned Skull returned to the Dark World and became a powerful Archfiend, the Poker Knights formed their own order, etc.
and kuriboh continued to be an eldritch abomination.
I would like to suggest Summoned Skull specifically became Archfiend Commander in this scenario. They have the same stats and lightning motif.
I like this headcannon.
The original Gaia likely canonically became The Black Luster Soldier, so there's an added layer to that too
1:05 you ask what those cards have in common: Kazuki Takahashi was into table top like DND, so Yugi's deck is really DND themed, at least in the beginning. Even Duelist Kingdom, if you consider tabletop roleplaying, is basically roleplaying so that's why the Castle Of Dark Illusions scene worked.
You are correct, specially because there is a blue eyes monster for the archetype.
Yeah I always saw him as the Link (Nintendo character) and Mystic Elf, the Zelda, of his Deck. Back when Yugioh was about Fantasy creatures
Yugi's deck was his grandpa's deck
i personally saw his duelist kingdom deck as a sort of odd D&D party, and then when they broke up after the 1st adventure, they ended up forming their own stories themselves
this is just how i saw his weird hot pot of monsters personally though
it would make sense with him being a king of games, and what not
You forgot about the Archfiend archetype since Summoned Skull is part of that archetype
Summoned skull does have archtype
He also mentions Archfiend of gilfer
Well for what it's worth. Archfiends are more of Titian's archetype
Summoned skull is a Archfiend card but he didn't inspire the archetype and isn't the backbone of it like DM or BE
Well yes but also no. It's only an archfiend on accident, it did not inspire the archetype
Little Yugi used both the Magnet Warriors and Gadget in the final duel against the Pharoah. He played the Gadgets at the beginning and then used the Magnet Warriors with the Trap Card to reflect Slifer's effect back at all 3 God cards.
Not in the original manga he didn't.
@JediKnight5641 Ah, ok. Didn't realize the decks were different
Summon Skull archetype TECHNICALLY exists, but not really
If I recall, a few spin-offs like a fusion form, a ritual monster, an XYZ card, that all basically say 'this is Summoned Skull btw, and if it dies out comes another Summon Skull'.
Be cool if Skull got a fusion with Dark Magician/Magician Girl, or some kind of new form forged by the Claw of Hermos.
Skull Archfiend should be its official name, since it is part of the archfiend archetype
Isn't archfiends his deck?
He was called Demon or Daemon in the japanese versión and that's how that archtype is called
I mean TECHNICALLY Summoned Skull was the first in the Archfiend archetype. The Chess Archfiends have a retrain of him with Skull Archfiend of Lightning and the Empire Archfiends have the retrain Archfiend Commander.
summoned skull also have a ritual, fusion, synchro and and xyz that float into vanilla summoned skull aside from archfiends
1:08 I always figured yugi’s deck had a “sword and sorcery” type theme to it kinda like DnD. Most of his monsters are wizards, knights, and other mythical stuff you’d find in a DnD game
Ah yes, magnets, my favorite mythical stuff
@@LouX453 I figured that them and the gadgets are doing the “sci-fi” side of fantasy.
Yep including imps and one of his cards was called Horn of the unicorn
@@PhantoRoycenot to mention gods and demon type dark monsters..... soldier monsters were also pretty common
They are part of the arch fiend types too
If we get Toon Support, i hope it has cohesion with Relinquished as well
would be a great way to tie the decks together, given Relinquished and Thousand Eyes Restrict are Pegasus’s boss monsters
The other "Phantom Beasts" right?😅
Rock lizard
Cross wing
Thunder Pegasus
Wild horn
Etc
RAGNAROK, litterally being the card that defeated Marik, truly needs a full whole deck archetype
That was anime filler. Yugi does actually defeat Marik with Fiend's Sanctuary in the manga.
@@kevinbell5674 how does that work?
I'm still waiting for my Louise/Beaver Warrior meta deck (yes, the Beaver Warrior's name is Louise)
What... where is this information from?
Louise with Feral Imp and Griffore retrains into a new Horn of the Unicorn archetype or Louise tagging with Celtic Guardian into a vanilla warrior archetype (or both with Louise as the bridge piece) would be sick. Make it happen, Konami.
@@jamaldavis2480 It's Japanese name is literally just Louise
@@SirAsdf TIL, I guess
Beaver Warrior is a girl! 😮
This is something i actually was searching and found some that he used before the merging of deck
1:02 Skilled Dark/Black Magician
Skilled Red Magician
Skilled Blue Magician
Skilled White Magician
Bonus: Skilled Brown Magician(Kuribo)
Well obviously "Use the Celtic Gaudian Yugi." I mean just go whole hog on the Zelda references the archetype writes itself really.
How can I use the Bloody Celtic Guardian if I don't have the bloody Celtic Guardian?!
There is a new Celtic guard of Noble Arms
In Yugi’s earlier decks there were a few rock types including the giant soldier of stone, it has retrains but a theme of his other rocks with the stone soldier support could tie in nicely to the magnet warrior archetype and generic rock support.
There is kind of a summoned skull deck considering he has like 4-5 more forms of himself and he also counts as an archfiend card as well
I feel like the Mushroom Man archtype isn't too far out of the realm of possibility because Yugi, in the OG manga, used Skull Servant in his first duel with Kaiba and now he has his own archtype.
Additionally, Mushroom Man was in said first duel too.
I feel a deck that you forget is Archfiend because Summoned Skull and Archfiend of Gilfer are both Archfiend cards
That's fair but there is already a character that claims the Archfiend archetype so it's a stretch to say it's Yugi's archetype instead of Titian's
@@Straven93it's as much a stretch as other decks listed here Red-Eyes Grandpas exodia deck etc. Also he literally listed Summoned Skull as not having an archetype so it's a reasonable correction
Even still, he has SS and had REBD, and there are tons of support that blends those two together, so there should be a REBD/Summon Skull deck here too.
yeah but they existed before those two were even archfiends
You're wrong there is something in common... they are all purple
"No, it's a trap card!"
"A house!"

The best color
My headcannon is that it's Yugi's favorite color. The color of royalty, which would remind him of Atem after he left.
@@TOMMY716 faaaaaacts. That and blue. Stunning color combo.

This video is basically just a Table of Contents for all the other deck videos
The first deck was Solomon Motou's, don't forget. Though, Yugi did do surgery to it right after Duelist Kingdom and right before Battle City.
Illusion as repurposed from the old monster type Dream that was in Dark Duel Stories.
Make a Rude Kaiser deck, cause he had the card for the first duel in the dub as well.
Palladium Oracle Mana actually was officially released. I even have a copy of it
Imagine a Yugi deck with all those vanilla one off monsters from like Duelist Kingdom that eventually got phased out once Battle City rolled around:
Celtic Guardian/Elf Swordsman, Winged Guardian of the Fortress, Beaver Warrior, Feral Imp
Now I want a group cards of Yugi's monsters coming together for a reunion for a gathering with their archetypes, like a family reunion. I know it sounds goofy, but I think it's a nice way to connect them all
Okay but I’m still waiting for the Beaver Warrior archetype
I remember as a kid I drew a Beaver Wizard
I never knew I need a Mushroom Man archetype till now.
I wonder what kind of deck it would be...
One of the decks is a Summoned Skull/Archfiend Deck. Most people don’t think of it, but there is an Archfiend fusion, ritual, synchro, and xyz that all are treated as Summoned Skull while on field or in the gy, and bring back Summoned Skull when destroyed
Take a shot every time sam "i have a video about them"
Oh my gosh, you're gonna give everyone alcohol poisoning w/ that one. 😆
Welcome to the shadow game 😂
I think feel myself fading away into the shadow realm with every shot!!!
Not the phantom beasts? That's also a Gazelle deck.
That was kinda its own thing that they included gazelle in
The Archfiend archetype for Summoned Skull. There are plenty of Archfiend “subarchetypes” like the chess and more generic Archfiend cards like Archfiend’s Palabrynth, and it has one variant of Summoned Skull for every summoning mechanic other than Pendulum.
How most expect their deck: to be like on the anime Perfect
How most decks end up: joey
honestly Joey's deck was fun because it led to so much tension watching him play.
@@soukenmarufwt5224 Seriously. The perfect example of this is Legacy of the Duelist. Jaden and Yuma use garbage decks.
@@soukenmarufwt5224L design
BTW There is a "Yugi" Deck you can play. the "Shining Sarcophagus" Archetype encompasses a few Yugi cards into one archetype. Dark Magician, Gandora,Silent Swordsman,Silent Magician,Stronghold, Summon Skull and a few others have variants in this archetype.
I’m still waiting on a Jerry Beans Man deck.
“Jerry Beans Dragon”
“Jerry Beans Knight”
Jerry Beans Lady”
Another bonus they could have would be something really amazing is they would have their own archetype effect of being able to then face up defense rather down
can't wait to see this! Love your content even though I quit YU-GI-OH!
Summoned Skull and Beaver Warrior would be awesome!
I think a deck revolving around his vanilla monsters in Duelist Kingdom would be fun.
My prediction is minimum 15 decks to the highest 20 to 25 decks.
3:25 yeah that came out in the 2019 mega tin as a promo, the mega tin that looks like the gold sarcophagus card.
Damn only 1 view in 7 secs TGS fell off
Another average Pyro viewer I see lol
I like how yugis deck never had an official archetype but his aces eventually were able to get enough support to have their own deck
Each time i watch your videos you bring back some memories. Thanks dude
I can see Konami making some kind of mediaeval archetype from the monsters you mentioned near the end. That would be cool
I'd certainly like to see a similar video about Kaiba, especially now that the OG XYZ union monsters have gotten retrains
There’s also the magician girl deck from the movie, and the chaos deck came from BLS envoy of the beginning. And I guess technically the Celtic guardian archetype, if you can really call it that, and the archfiend skull deck from summoned skull
I’m really excited for future Shining Sarcophagus cards to come out. Plenty more monsters were used in that duel.
I mean Summoned Skull has the archfiend archetype. There are also a lot of Gardna cards. And there are a few retrains of gandora
mystical elf could make for a cool archtype, play into her defensive style and make monsters loose attack to do damage back at them. It could be a whole elf kingdom with different elves as the monsters or even doing something like the danger!! cards and base all the monsters on celtic or old medieval "mystical" creatures.
The ones that come to mind are these:
Dark Magician (Palladium Oracle, Legendary Dragon Knights)
Magician Girls
Magnet Warriors and Electromagnet Warrior
King Queen and Jack (Face Cards)
Phantom Beasts (Gazelle and Berfomet)
Exodia
Black Luster Soldier (Blue Eyes, Dragon Master Knight)
Gaia the Fierce Knight and Curse of Dragon (Catapult Turtle)
Buster Blader
Played Chimera, and Arcana Knights with Slifer and Dark Magician.
I hope Mystic Elf gets a deck with Celtic Guardian next
I actually have the palladium Mana card (a few actually) came in one of the tins that focused on Yami Yugi.
I'd mix the following up:
Summoned Skull + Archfiend of Gilfer = A fiend deck that focuses on destruction and weakening enemy attack power.
9:10 Man, he wasn't kidding... It only took 16 days!!!
12:00 Damn! 43 days after this video came out he did that one too. This guy's hardcore!
I like to make yugi decks that use 2-4 of yugi’s archetypes, it’s a nice challenge for myself to find what synergies well together
Using retrain versions of Giant Soldier of Stone, Big Shield Gardna, and Mystical Elf into an archetype, and give it Fusions ofc with quick play spells, and traps that can activate from hand (only during battle phase when you control the particular archetype) 🤔 🤷
Or another gimmick deck focusing on pierce damage with using equip spells (that all can switch to another monster on your field only during the battle phase once per turn, and they all say “if sent to the graveyard, you can added it during the next standby phase) with using retrain versions of Beaver Warrior, Silver Fang, Griffore, Feral Imp, Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress #1 & #2 into an archetype and give them fusions as well with the boss being a Knighted Unicorn 🦄🤨
and BOOM “Horn of the Unicorn” archetype 😅
Summoned Skull's name is originally Archfiend Skull and that did get a spinoff
I love this video idea. Sam should do more of these
I truly love these videos, they give so much insight on the yugioh tcg. And not the mention, the anime itself with the could blank beat blank series. I am glad to find this channel to learn more of yugioh
I just wish they gave us more support for Sorcerer of Dark Magic
Blue-Eyes Shinning Dragon is already easier to summon with recent cards but not Yugi's Movie ace monster.
Mystical Elf would be kind of cool
I imagine a Deck where you get absurd amounts of Life Points and Monster Protections and therefor have to pay a lot of Lifepoints as well
Maybe even playing around with the Defens Position as well
Actually, Summoned Skull became the Archfiend Archetype, Mirror Force also branched off into many different versions of Mirror Force.
Looking forward to the video on the Mushroom man archetype
As a Celt myself I want a Celtic guardian archetype for sure!
Also: 3:22 I can’t believe I own a card TGS Anime didn’t know about! 😄
It was pretty cheap when I bought it, but the foil was really beautiful. Not that good for a DM deck, but it was a great Millennium World reference!
We need more magnet warrior cards over the last type of magnet
11:53 1 mistake, 1 card supposed to be NOT get included in 1 section... & that is? Soul-Dwelling Blue-Eyes. That 1's a part of Millennium archetype, not Shining Sarcophagus
Summoned skull is part of the archfiend deck also worth mentioning a lot of the cards listed at the end don't have full decks but do have support
Gazelle's archetype are the Phantom Beast (only 1 trap, but some monsters).
*Correction: Summoned Skull DOES have its own archetype. It has its own Fusion, Ritual, and Synchro Monsters.*
Fun fact: The Winged Dragon of Ra also works well with the Knights of Face cards.
You know what connection with Dark Magician doesn't has modern support?
The spell counter/Endymion crossover, but in part makes sense because Endymion master of magicians is not part of Yugi's monsters.
Little Yugi used both the Gadgets and the magnet warriors because he had amazing taste. Atem used Chimera and the knights of face
man I love your channel! Thank you for your videos!
