Interestingly enough, I think Konami already provided us with a rough idea for Téa’s modern deck:
In Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, there are occasional “Character Events” where players can unlock a new character by earning points in duels with that character. For DSOD Téa’s Character Event, she used a blend of *Witchcrafters* (another Spellcaster archetype) AND *Magician Girls* in her duels.
I like to think that a pure Witchcrafter deck would be her modern choice.

Personally, I kinda like Mikanko as Téa's deck. They're themed around dancing (should be obvious why that fits her) that revolve mechanically around Equip Spells (she uses a fair amount of Equip cards during her duels relative to how much of her deck we actually saw) and preventing/redirecting damage to the player (ties into Waboku, which was pretty much the best card we saw her play), and they're all female (just because most female duelists in DM played decks that revolved around female and/or cute monsters).

  • @inkromancer_studios
    @inkromancer_studios 7 місяців тому +286

Gonna throw in some hot takes for modern decks:
-Bones would use a Wight deck, with an ace of Zombie Master and Boss of King of Skull Servants replacing his old King of Ghosts. (Keeps the emphasis on the "King" card)
-Marik/Yami Marik would use the "Unchained" archetype symbolizing how he has broken away from the 'shackles' of his family heritage while keeping with his 'watch the world burn' mentality.
    - Esparoba would obviously use psychic type monsters. With Jinzo haphazardly thrown in because why tf not.
-Arcana I would give an Invoker deck, or a deck centered around Crowley. Emphesising a magician who is in way over his head.
Lastly for the hottest of takes:
Joey and Serenity would BOTH use Dragon Maids, but play completely different. Serenity focuses on using the human forms almost exclusively because she's inexperienced and because "They look cute." Joey plays the deck to its full capacity because "Dragons are awesome!" But in shocking twist/reveal in some episode later down the line we learn that Joey's boss monster is House Dragonmaid, and Serenity has a copy of 5-headed dragon.

I know they're not exactly modern now considering it's been almost 10 years since they last got support, but since Tristan seems to have a thing for muscly dudes with a cyber theme - Cyber Commander (who he says is his favorite card, and is in fact designed to resemble him) and Super Roboyarou - I actually think he'd enjoy playing U.A. Points in favor:
-Cheap: There's not a single card in the entire set that costs more than a dollar. Even a newbie like Tristan could put a deck together fairly easily.
-Straightforward: U.A. has a pretty simple game plan of special summon your attackers to attack, then special summon your defenders to defend. Even their spells and traps are relatively simple. Tristan would be able to pick it up in no time.
-Potential for growth: Once Tristan gets the hang of U.A. he can move on to playing with F.A., as a natural extension of what he already knows. They even share common support cards, so he can keep the deckbuilding simple.
-Thematic: Tristan is the muscle of the group, far more prone to think with his fists than his head. What better deck for the brawn to use than one based on a group of athletes?

Yugi would definitely go for Ishizu Tearlaments when it was a thing, because Egypt, GY effects and fusions (the only extra deck mechanic he fully understands, he still calls it "fusion deck"). He's bitching about the banlist ever since, but still topping tournaments because the deck just won't die.
Kaiba would be playing Dragon Link and mocking Yugi everyday on social media since it won worlds, even though it wasn't him that played. Yugi has filed multiple restraining orders against him but the police can't do anything, the man simply has too much money, lackeys and dragon-shaped weapons to be stopped.
Joey is still trying to mix Kashtira with Red-Eyes and Jinzo to this day. He swears it's gonna work any day now.
Pegasus plays Toon on main but has a few alt accounts on MD where he builds whatever is meta in the current format because he's tired of losing to little kids in his own cardgame. He's been stuck on Platinum for the past 6 seasons.
Marihk is currently serving multiple life sentences for 30+ murders. He alledges a _"ancient egyptian dark spirit"_ told him to do it. Upon asked what would he play today, he answered "well, Ra, of course". He expressed growing confusion when questioned if he would go for a pure variant or incorporate Kightmares in the extra deck, how he would deal with the new Master Rule and the many changes that happened since he was incarcerated like synchro, xyz, etc. He then went into a fit of rage and attacked the reporter immediately after being showed a pendulum card, needing to be restrained by the guards. The reporter recently left ICU and is okay, having sustained burns to only 75% of his body.

Jaden plays but mostly online, since he has no money for any of the past dozen hero support cards. His parents have repeatedly asked him to get a job and move out of their house, unsuccessfully so far. He’s currently trying to get his twitch channel off the ground, but has been stuck at 8 subscribers for over two years.
Yusei asked the reporter to be left alone, hopped on his bike and then proceeded to run 16 red lights in a row, cause 3 car crashes and injury 7 people, including 2 children and a pregnant woman. Law enforcement states he’s still at large.
Yuma stopped playing the game long ago, instead getting involved over the years in increasingly deranged conspiracy theory circles about _“Numbers”_ and how the world is controlled by a shadowy cabal of beings from a parallel world (whom he call “barians”). He now follows the _”NumberAnon”_ conspiracy, alleging vaccines and 5G are created by said _“barians”_ to merge their world with our own and destroy the Astral World (we believe this to be a reference to heaven).
Yuya had a rough couple of years with a failing comedian career, getting canceled online after people dug up some old racist jokes he made on twitter and MR4 making all his decks completely useless, eventually falling off the grid for a while. He currently lives in Japan and owns at least 3 different Electrumite dakimakuras.
Yusaku still plays cyberse decks, but yugioh has taken a backseat to his hacking activities. After joining Anonymous, he had to move 10+ times and is wanted in over 100 countries for cybercrimes. He says he still enjoys some Master Duel from time to time, usually to mess with people’s connection and gain access to the opponent’s computer _“because Konami’s code is as lazy as its game design”_ (Cardgame News Online Inc. stresses this is the opinion of an interviewed third party and not the company).

6:01 - I suspect that he'd play Blue-Eyes Branded, as opposed to pure Blue-Eyes. Remember that Seto had a subtheme of board-breaking tied to his Virus cards (which you did mention, me big stupid), which the Branded/Albaz cards could cover easily.
7:35 - I actually think Joey would play Dinomorphia. His playstyle leans towards a mix of high-risk high-reward, aggression, and Traps on a level that would make Fred Jones jealous, all of which are covered by Dinomorbs.
13:03 - I mean, there are several one-time characters that get lumped in with Tristan and Serenity before you put Téa in there, she had more current on-screen duels than Granddad.
14:20 - Mikanko. It's an archetype that revolves mechanically around Equip Spells (Téa plays a high number of Equip Spells relative to the number of _her_ cards we actually saw her play) and preventing/redirecting damage that would be dealt to her (could tie into Waboku, which was pretty much the best card she played in either of her duels), and is aesthetically themed around female dancers (which connects to both her passion for dance, and the tendency to assign female/cute monsters to female characters at the time). Feels like a thematic fit for Téa to me.
15:15 - Transcendosaur actually retrained a monster or two that Rex plays, so mixing those with Evol _could_ work. Dinomorphia wouldn't, because Rex plays Caveman Yu-Gi-Oh.

I made a Dark Magician Slifer deck with the trap card of sanctity that reborns Slifer ... and it has some nice synergy: apprentice illusion discarding slifer to be revived with the deck, the true name can call your card right when you know your top deck card with dark magical circle or illusion of chaos (which returns a card to the top of your deck), also soul servant giving you up to 4 draws buffs Slifer. I think Atem could play something like this ... though I could imagine he would maybe mix DM with buster blader ... or with BLS for the fusions between them .. or maybe he just adapts to the situation and just mixes as he thinks fits best for the current duel.
as for Joey, I personally think he could also use a mix of red-eyes and flame swordsman as red-eyes slash dragon is a common card in it, time wizard of tomorrow could also fit in as a target for poly. I mean in the anime he kinda used several red-eyes archetype cards: in orichalcos he had lord of the red and paladin of dark dragon ... so I think he would not abandon him for flame swordsman.
Also for Pegasus: toon kingdom and eye of illusion are anime cards Pegasus actually used that got printed.
And as for Keith: he got that tiny support wave that did not only contain desperado barrel dragon, but also other cards focusing on dark machines like heavy metal raiders or BM-4 Blast Spider.

One of the problems with the classic characters decks is that a lot of them played a hodgepodge of different cards that would grow to become their own archetypes, with few of said archetypes having any crossover support, let alone enough to make one play said archetypes together…
Meanwhile they also had a bunch of monsters that were just outright left in the dust altogether, like most of their non-effect monsters…
Let’s take, say Dark Magician and The Magnet Warriors…
I could make a “Dark Magna-cian” super archetype with the sub-effect (This card is always treated as a “Magnet Warrior” and “Dark Magician” card).
As for those normal and flip monsters and the whole tribute summoning thing, I have an idea for a support card for that:
    _Summoner Magician_ (EARTH)
    Level 4
    Pendulum Scales: 0
_If you Normal or Flip Summon a monster: You can increase or decrease this card’s Pendulum Scale by that monster’s level/rank. Immediately after this card is first placed in your pendulum zone: The following effects are applied for the rest of the duel (You can only use this pendulum effect of “Summoner Magician” once per duel):_
⚪️You can Normal Summon/Set an additional Normal, flip or Gemini monster per turn.
⚪️Your Normal, Gemini and Flip monsters can be normal summoned/set with 1 less tribute.
⚪️Gemini, Flip, and Nom-effect monsters you control can make an additional attack per battle phase, and also, if they attack a defense position monster, inflict piercing battle damage.
    Magician/Pendulum/Flip/Effect
_FLIP: You can normal summon/set 1 level 6 or lower Non-effect, Gemini or Flip monster from your hand, deck or GY._
_This card’s Normal/Flip summon cannot be negated. If you normal or flip summon any number of monsters: You can special summon this card from your hand or pendulum zone. I think the OGs really needed some of that TLC like Mai getting upgraded Harpies like Cyber Slash harpy to help keep them relevant in an evolving game. and while Pumpkin King is a terrible boss monster even by the standards back then, Zombie decks have seen a lot of good support so Bonz might eat good too.

So here's my take on the main crew specifically:
Yugi- I definitely agree that he should finish up with his Gold Sarcophagus archetype deck, but I feel like that his end game deck. I like the idea of these guys starting with one deck and ending with another, so I'm going to say Yugi starts with either a Gaia deck or a Face Cards deck, then as his journey helps him grow he can pick up more of a Gold Sarc deck.
Atem- He has multiple decks, and chooses them based on his intuition (ie what the Millennium Puzzle deems best), that way we can have BLS, Dark Magician, Gaia, Egyptian Gods, Face Cards, etc... But for the final duel I'd say have him play an Egyptian God deck and have him leave the others as mementos to Yugi.
Kaiba- You hit the nail on the head, full on agree with him just having a Blue-Eyes deck that he adjust for the situation.
Joey- I like the idea of him starting out with the Flame (wingman) Swordsman deck, but after the first episode. Have Yugi be the one who helps him make the deck, and have all the gambling cards in there as well. Have him win Rex's Red-Eyes in Duelist Kingdom, then when Battle City rolls around have the Rare Hunters steal his Flame Swordsman. That pushes Joey to make the Red-Eyes deck, and we can have Joey switch between both decks as the series continues. We can have him take more gambling cards out as he grows as a character.
Tristan- Give this man a Warrior deck, specifically a Six Sams. Tristan is more brawn than brains, but have Six Sams be the one thing he knows he's able to play strategically. Plus we can have it to where during his Cyberworld Duel he can pull out Shien as his deck master and mention how it represents someone who he would 'follow into any fight'. Once he loses the helmet on Shien is destroyed and Serenity sees that the guy who Shien symbolizes to Tristan is Joey.
Duke- Fully agree, give this man the most RNG heavy deck ever.
Tea- I think Fairy Control works pretty well for Tea
Grandpa- Grandpa passes Exodia to Yugi, so I think he'd end up playing a Rock monster deck (probably similar to the more defensive Exod deck that came out). However, once the Grand Prix comes around have him get a new Exodia deck with the new support. The explanation could be a combination of his old buddy Prof. Hawkins finding some new ruins in Egypt pertaining to Exodia, and Pegasus made the cards as a way to apologize to Grandpa for stealing his soul.

The OG Yugioh characters using more modern decks is a super cool idea for a TV series! I could see a filler episode where Kiba has to duel someone to keep his company but the person he is dueling swaps Kiba's Blue eyes deck with a Dragon Maid deck so Kiba has to duel out of his element. Maybe the person he is dueling is using Kiba's deck against him and fumbles a combo which allows Kiba to make a come back. There is so much fun stuff you could do with this.

    Bonz - Zombie World works(?)

Panik - He's very tricky. He just really used Fiends. You'd have to grab some Dark Fiend Deck like Dark Lair, but I don't see too much else tbh.
Arcana - I think he just needs custom Dark Magician archetype tbh (Could use the name Dark Sorcerer or Dark Illusionist. I know the first is used, but I'm sure the second is too lol. Either way, i think they could be good). Otherwise, Dark Magicians but the most jank version of it. Maybe a Ritual focused deck?
Ishizu - She could use general Earth Fairy monsters. Vernaslyph's are good, but I don't know how well they fit.

Marik - Gravekeeper's fit Marik pretty well tbh, but not Yami Marik. He has a more pain focused deck tbh, so you'd probably have to use Burn or something. Ra works too, of course.
Rebecca - We didn't see a lot that was specifically her tbh. At least her first deck was focused on Milling and buffing her monsters through it (Tearlaments would fit this strategy lol). There isn't really anything that specifically fits her though.
Waking the Dragons - They all need custom decks tbh. Like Orechalcos Soldiers (Alister), Orechalcos Guardians (Raphael), Orechalcos Arsenal (Valon), Sins of the Orechalcos (Dartz), etc
They could each have their Custom Seal Cards, and Dartz could have a playstyle where he builds up Orechalcos rings like he did in the anime.

4)Joey will definitely play a fiery warrior deck that uses equip spells or equip related effects like infernobleknights, he is also like kaiba except he will use equips rather than a trap heavy deck
5)May will likely play dominant female theme deck, she often uses cards that gain better effects when they are in the precense of other archtypes related compaions

I have actually come up with a concept for an Panik themed archetype call “Veil of Shadows.” It’s main theme is being able to summon level 5 Dark Fiend Normal Monsters without cost, the retrains of his icon monsters all have abilities which make them also count as normal monsters while the retrained field spell is face-up on the field. This field spell also recreates Panik’s iconic tactic by letting set you fiends in face-down ATTACK position and each time you set a card you can rearrange your field. HOWEVER, should your field spell leave the field for any reason, it takes ALL you set cards down with it (we all know what this references)!
I have also come up with a Signature Attack variant of Summoned Skull which shares its iconic DM series ability involving electricity mixing with water and magnets, which I call “Summoned Skull - Lightning Strike.” Also, you can put Red-Eyes in a Flame Swordsman deck, since it could stand having an extra dragon in it for one of its fusion monsters and as some extra power!
BTW, what about Rebecca and Lumis and Umbra? Shouldn’t they get some proper support too?

    St.Joan the Sanctifying
    LV8 LIGHT Fairy Fusion

Once per Chain, if your opponent activates a monster effect in the hand or GY; add 1 LIGHT or EARTH fairy monster from your deck to the hand; and if it was the same LV as the effect of the monster activated; shuffle that card into the deck; then send the card you added to the GY. Once, If a card or effect resolves while this card is on the field; negate that effect, then "St.Joan" monsters are unaffected by your opponents card of that same type while this card is on the field.
    St.Joan the Purifying
    LV8 EARTH Fairy Fusion
    2800/2000
    1 LIGHT monster + 1 EARTH Monster
Once per Chain, if a monster on the field activates a effect, Special Summon 1 LIGHT or EARTH Fairy monster from your hand or GY and if it's the same LV as the monster who activated their effect; return that card to the hand. Once, if a spell or trap is activated; you can negate that activation and if you do; shuffle that card into the deck; then Special Summon 1 "St.Joan" monster from your hand, deck or extra deck.
    Cathedral of St.Joan
    Field Spell
If this card is activated you can add 1 "St.Joan" card from your deck to the hand. You opponent cannot respond to the summon or activation of your non-fusion "St. Joan" Monsters summons or effects. Once per turn if you control a EARTH or LIGHT Fusion monster; negate all of your opponents monsters or Spell/Traps they control; and if they control copies in their GY with the same name as a negated card;banish it.
    Call of St.Joan
    Quick-Play Spell
Fusion Summon 1 EARTH or LIGHT Fusion monster by fusing monsters in your hand or field as material. If this card is activated in Response of a monsters effect; negate that effect; then use that monster a material for a fusion monster; and if you do treat that monster as a EARTH or LIGHT monster. you can only use this effect once per turn.
    Crucifixion of St.Joan
    Continuous Trap
While this card is face up, your EARTH and LIGHT Fusion monsters inflcit piercing damage; also when they battle, your opponent cannot activate cards of effects until the end of the damage step; you can send this face-up card to the GY and one LIGHT or EARTH monster. Special Summon 1 "St.Joan" monster from your GY or extra deck (this is treated as a Fusion Summon)

I agree with a lot of these. For characters that have dueled less though, here's what I'd go with... admittedly, some of my choices are based on more than just the anime.
Serenity: Dogmatika. I know, it sounds dumb, but here's the thing... a lot of her cards lean towards having some sort of religious subtext. (The Forgiving Maiden is a nun, St. Joan refers to Joan of Arc being a saint, Witch of the Black Forest leans towards Wicca, Goddess of the Third Eye, etc.). Dogmatika is an archetype built around nods to religion. That's hers.
Tristan: The guy seems to really prefer Normal Monsters. Even when you look to the video games, most of his decks are just filled with them. I'd have to say Phantasm Spiral. It's the only deck that comes to mind that really works to any degree that is built around using Normals.
Tea: With her generally mixing Fairies and Spellcasters, she would definitely need her own unique archetype. Something like Fortune Ladies (which are Spellcasters but also have "Fortune Fairies" that aren't Fairy type), would be cool to see despite it already being an anime archetype. Also, incorporating her whole thing with Yugi, maybe something that's both Light and Dark attribute. I'm thinking something around Dawn and Dusk, like you have Dawn Fairies and Dusk Witches that synergize together somehow.
Weevil: Inzektors. Sorry, gotta disagree on that one, it's Inzektors. He uses them in Duel Links, they've had almost zero appearances in the anime or manga. That's the one.
Bonz: Similar to Weevil, look to Duel Links. He uses Ghostricks. Again, no anime or manga appearances, and even works thematically because of how sneaky and underhanded he tried to be. Ghostricks are it.
Panik: The temptation to just say "Dark World" is SO real. It is THE Dark Fiend deck. The only uses it's seen in the anime or manga were from Duel Spirits in GX. However, they don't fit his whole "I want to torture people" vibe though, he would definitely use a control deck. So, some sort of deck that's Dark Fiends, that use a control strategy. Ooh, "Shadowshield". There's your archetype name.
Rebecca: The video games really leaned towards a Nurse Burn style of deck where she gained life and it dealt damage, which she did also use the in the Grand Championship arc of the anime, so it makes sense. An updated take on that could work, or maybe Aroma with some burn elements (and possibly new archetype support that leans into such a playstyle). That'd be nifty.

@@nicholasfarrell5981 Mikanko isn't a bad choice, but I think it's a bit too wide ranging of an archetype for her. She tends to stick to Fairies and Spellcasters that are either Light or Dark. Mikanko doesn't have many of any of that.
Bonz using Skull Servants wouldn't make a ton of sense... he never used them. Doesn't use them in Duel Links either, because in that game he uses Ghostricks.
Weevil using Giant Ballpark is... something. He's meant to be the Japanese National Champion though, so i think a modern deck for him would lean a bit more towards a fast, cohesive strategy that implements Insects and could compete in the meta... but not be so good that he could get a top rank in World's. Inzektors seem like they'd be a good fit for that, and also, he uses them in Duel Links.

      @nicholasfarrell5981 7 місяців тому +1

@The1AndOnlyGoldenboy personally, I think Mikanko is a pretty good fit for Téa. My thinking is:
      1) Equip Spell focus. Téa plays a high number of Equip Spells relative to the amount of her deck that we actually saw, and they tended to be important to her strategy (they helped her overpower Mai's Harpie Lady, and Maha Vailo was honestly stronger in her deck than the two characters that had the physical card). Equip Spells are also a key card type in Mikanko.
      2) Ability to buy back Equip Spells. Mikanko have in-archetype ways to retrieve their Equip Spells from the GY, which is the effect of Téa's Magician of Faith (the card that she identifies with/gets her soul stuck in during Bakura's debut).
      3) Damage prevention/redirection. Waboku might as well be Téa's _real_ ace card, and the Mikanko archetype use similar effects as their main strategy/gimmick.
      4) Dance lore/theme. The spells have a lot of names referencing dance steps, and Téa is consistently shown to have an interest in dance.
      5) They're female. Because every female duelist except Ishizu had at least a few female/cute monsters in DM.
That's my opinion anyway, though I get that I'm probably in the minority on this one.

      1. The Dark Magician girl theme deck.
      2. Fairy deck. It will be some sort of "anti target" protection, negate, stall, defensive fairy type effect, make your opponent use up their resources to try and wipe your board but once they used up all their resources you go for OTK.
      3. Everybody forgot. Maha Vailo. However Maha Vailo needs more support. This deck is all about getting Maha Vailo, other Maha Vailo related cards to the field, beef it up and try go for a battle kill.

Rebecca played Ruby Dragon, Sapphire Dragon, Emerald Dragon, and Diamond Head Dragon. So, you could just keep going with that these and give her Pearl Dragon, Platinum Dragon, Black & White Dragon, Black & White 2-Headed Dragon, X & Y Dragon, Sun Dragon, Moon Dragon, Shield Dragon, Sword Dragon, Scarlet Dragon, Violet Dragon, Gold Dragon, Silver Dragon, Crystal Dragon, Red Dragon, Blue Dragon, and Yellow Dragon with some modern effects. So not too long ago I actually found a field spell called Heavy Metal Raiders when just randomly searching cards. It featured all of Bandit Keith's monsters and focused on dark machines which was his shtick. But outside of the barrel dragons which all only really found play in Duel Links, there isn't really a deck for him, seeing as the field spell was battle oriented maybe we'll get retrains which focus on the battle phase but otherwise not really.
Odion actually has an alright deck in modern continuous trap monsters, which I made recently in MD funnily enough. The Apophis retrain actually negates on its position in the chain, so you can activate it in response to spell cards like harpies feather duster and negate that, using other cards like Statue of Anguish Pattern to destroy a card on summoning a monster from the S/T and using the two tiki (tiki curse and tiki soul) cards to add offence and defence to the deck. His "Signature" cards of temple of the kings and the mythical beast of Serket are still absolutely playable given that you're always special summoning the trap monsters anyway (with TotK allowing one on the same turn it was summoned) and both of them on the field offers the ability to summon almost any fusion. There's even some on-brand effect monsters in Qardan the Clear-Sighed and Pharaonic Advent which actually represents the end goal of the gravekeepers while allowing you to tribute their main monsters (Fairy for Ishizu, Fiend for Marik and Reptile for Odion.). There's also a lot of toolbox cards to throw in like magic planter for draw power, Angel statue - azurune for special summon negates, Imperial custom for destruction prevention and if you want to run synchros there's even a tuner in shapesister.
I probably went a bit too into that but you get the idea lol.

7:35 I actually think Joey would use a 60 card deck with a ratio of 40 Flame Swordsman; 20 Red-Eyes (Though I'd put the Hermos cards in there somewhere). It would make even more sense if there was a hypothetical "Yu-Gi-Oh DM but with more modern decks" Reboot style thing as it could mean that Joey used a deck based around Flame Swordsman, but after receiving the Red-Eyes from Rex, he started implementing bits from the Red-Eyes archetype, and then probably adding Hermos cards because the dragon chose him and also Hermos could give more fusion potential and equip cards for beatstick strategy he'd probably play with Ultimate Flame Swordsman.

  • @ThePuff18

Haven’t finished the video yet, but Kaiba playing Kashtira would make too much sense. His obsession with power and victory makes the play style perfect. For those who don’t know, Kashtira focuses on getting the level 7s out easily (usually on the first turn, regardless of what you draw), then comboing Unicorn into Fenrier, who can add Riseheart to the hand. Riseheart summons itself, then you XYZ Summon Shangri-Ira. Activate Risehearts effect, and you can start the cycle of quickly banning all of your opponents zones, until they literally can’t play anything but a field spell.
Essentially, it’s total victory. In fact, once that level of domination has been achieved, you can simply deck out your opponent, despite not needing to. Very few field spells allow the destruction needed to win back the game.

    • @ThePuff18
      @ThePuff18 7 місяців тому +1

For those who are worried about Blue-Eyes, one of the best extra deck cards for Kashtira is Number 38: Hope Harbinger Dragon Titanic Galaxy. As a Galaxy-Eyes adjacent card, it’s a rank 8 XYZ. It’s mainly summoned here with Sacrifice Level-Up, but two Blue-eyes works. It also focuses on negation and power, so it works perfectly.

I feel like Atem may actually lean into Aleister the Invoker, particularly with how flexible Aleister the Invoker is within his archetype, via his ability to screw with the opponent's board all while recycling himself and the other Invoked cards back into the Deck/Hand. Or, alternatively, he might run a hybrid deck of Dark Magician and Archfiends.
With Kaiba, I could actually see him using a Blue-Eyes deck mixed with Fallen of Albaz and his associated support, as Albaz would give Kaiba a great way to get rid of opposing Dragons, while also giving Kaiba access to even more Dragon type Fusion monsters. Plus, Albaz himself is a Dark attribute monster, which would also open things up for Kaiba to still utilize his various Virus cards.
For Bonz, I actually think a Skull Servant deck would fit him perfectly (his name _is_ "Bonz" after all!). Possibly with him also slipping something like Doomking Balerdroch into his deck as an extra boss monster in addition to King of the Skull Servants.
Panik would probably work with an Archfiend deck if Atem wasn't already using Archfiend cards, or he could certainly play a Dark World deck.

Honestly I always associated the Battleguards with Tristan. I know there were some cards added to that group but that didn't make it a full on deck.
I could see Tea using the Magician Girls thinking along the lines that Yugi helped her become a better duelist and after upgrading his deck gave her the Magician Girls to use as her own thing. Considering how she was there 90% of the time just to cheer on Yugi and Atem I feel like it makes sense for her to use cards that are associated with them
For Rex I can see him at least using the retrains of the Two-Headed King Rex as well as the more generic dinosaur support and possibly having Transcendasaurus as his boss monster
    Weevil could use Beetroopers
Pegasus would run two separate decks. His toon deck would be like his public deck, its the deck that he would use when doing like sponsored events and stuff and would be the cards that are associated with him in the public eye to make him and his company seem more kid friendly, but if he ever gets backed into a corner or has to duel outside the public eye (mostly in more dire situations) he'd switch over to the Millennium-Eyes deck. Honestly for the canon of the show (and since no one else had heard of Relinquished back in the day) I could see in universe him never circulating these cards making it a one of a kind deck he uses to just destroy people with.

Most of these are on point, but:
    - Joey would just mix modern Red-Eyes, Gearfried (who already mixes with Red-Eyes) and Flame Swordsman. They have surprising synergy.
    - Tea was already given a mostly modern deck. She plays Witchcrafters and Magician Girls. DMG being associated with her makes sense considering DM is associated with Yugi.
    - Ishizu literally used Gravekeepers in the manga to whoop Marik on the regular. Giving him GK and not her is not only disrespectful to Ishizu, but downright abusive to Marik, who ran multiple different burn decks. Just give him a modern burn deck.
    - Bonez whole thing was losing random monsters, then reviving them as zombies. Just give him a Zombie World deck.
    - Serenity and Tristan are difficult. The former ran exactly one iconic card, and the latter has used so many different decks over the years, but mostly centered around warriors or beast warriors.

If we go the duel links route, they interpreted DSOD Tea as magician girls and/or witchcrafters, and at the time of her first release, witchcrafters were meta viable for the format.
I also question the bakura choice, since his initial fiend deck was clearly the influence of the ring. Bakura the innocent didnt really participate in duels outside of shadow game shenanigans and overpowering just long enough to concede.
We dont need to narrow every character down to a single archetype, either. Mai could easily run both a harpy and a amazoness deck depending on her opponent, and she was shown to be competent enough to imply the ability to consider different decks for different scenarios.

Here's what i personally think they'd play based more on preference than anything (im assuming they would be playing these decks for a while) Not just, did they play this exact deck but more, what cards did they tend to favor and what kind of playstyle do they prefer.
Yugi: Modern DM. We saw him transition more into the magician cards in dark side and with the dm support these days, i think he'd play it.
Kaiba: Blue-eyes. Do i need to explain.
Joey: Infernoble Knight. While yes his flame swordsman and red-eyes are iconic. How many random warriors did he play. It seems like he'd go towards more warrior based decks, maybe even six sam but i think he'd settle for infernoble.
Duke: Dice deck does make enough sense for me to agree, he didn't do anything besides that.
Mai: Harpy, it's like Kaiba with blue-eyes. Just makes sense.
Bakura: Dark World. Fiends is what he played and i think after a time he'd find his way to dark world, it keeps with a more dark theme while being more powerful and more in control, i feel like Yami Bakura would play the Dark spirit stuff but i think Bakura would move past it. I know there are other characters who'd use this was well but i say, who cares. Multiple people can play the same deck.
Grampa Moto: His OG deck. Idk he seems attached to it and it didn't seem like he cared about updating it, just wanted to play the cards he wanted to rather than having a particular deck. I just dont see him changing it.
Serenity: N/a? Did she play the game outside the one time she had too? If anyone were to drop the game, it'd be her so yeah, she plays nothing.
Tristan: We dont see much off him dueling but if he wanted to use humans in or with weapons attached to them, Sky Striker maybe? Seems like he'd be down with the concept.
Tea: Hear me out here, herald impcantation. She primarily played fairy outside of the whole virtual world thing, and eventually fairies can either go counter fairy or herald. I think a ritual deck would be more interesting and as time went on she'd pick up the ritual support so yeah. Maybe it could go to counter fairy but i dont see it. Couldn't tell you why but it just doesn't feel right.
Weevil: Lets be honest, we all know he's rocking up with the Beetroopers. They're by far the most playable insect deck in a while, and yes his great moth and all that are iconic, he was a competitive player, he'd try to find something that's on theme but stronger.
Rex: Dino, probably with UCT. I dont see him passing that up.
Mako: Umi control. Maybe Mermail if we wanted to be more spicy but i think umi control does make more sence in a modern context.
Para & Dox: Gate Guardian. Good deck, fits well. Do thing.
PegaSUS: Toon probably. Thats basically his whole personality without the relinquished stuff so it fits with the character.
Bones: Modern Zombie. None ot the pumpking stuff. I say he's combing mezuki and zombie master with zombie world. Keeps on theme but is actually playable
Keith: Earth Machine, mainly to tubo out gustav max. I mean he played barrel dragon, why not play the deck which makes the giant artillery trains. I can see it.
Panik: Runic Stun. He's a complete asshole, so it fits.
Espa Roba: Jinzo would work as a 1 of but i dont feel that'd be his main strat. Honestly something like Labrynth might work. It's a control deck which is something he seemed to prefer, plus you can't tell me he doesn't look like the kinda guy who would call lovely "mommy".
Arcana: DM, but he's coping on cards. Like he seems like the kinda guy to still play mystic box and argue it's good. He's playing DM but his deck building just sucks.
Izhizu: Izhizu Tear, the deck is named after her support, also doesn't seem like the kinda person to mess around so playing the most optimal way of doing this makes sense. Plus she can always see if she's gonna have good mills with the necklace so yeah.
Odion: Palio, he played trap monsters before and i can see a transition to the newer and better trap monsters.
Marik: Gravekeeper, he is literally a gravekeeper why would he not play this deck. The hatred is gone from him, let him play his own family.
Rafael: Guardians. Do they suck, oh yeah. Will he still play them anyway. Also yes. It's like Kaiba with blue-eyes, you can't separate this man from his deck.
Valon: Full armoured XYZ. He played the armour cards, why not play the new armour cards.
Alister: Fire Fist, he played a fire deck and i don't think volcanic suits him so yeah, he got tenki.
Dartz: Another one i can see just not playing the game anymore. He did it as a means to an end more than anything. Also idk what else he'd play cause we only saw the evil him not the normal version so yeah. No idea.
Zigfried: Valkyrie probably, makes sense to me.
Leo: Fairy tale kaiju. I think he'd use the actual fairy tales like snow and luna and the kaiju's are more in there as a good engine. He has the cards he wants in there already, now play the damn turtle, or if he wants another golden castle he could play edlitch, dont think it'd fit but it'd be funny.

Something I think that fits best for Marik having both a "Slime Deck" and a Non-Gravekeeper deck is the fact that, as you point out in other videos, with "Revival Jam" being Marik's "Ace Monster", this showcases something that most people don't really talk about, and that's Repetition across Duels. Across the Series, characters typically aim for new cards to showcase more of the game, to show off more cool combos, but every character has cards that show up frequently in their decks, these typically being their Ace or Boss monsters, even when Kaiba has Obelisk as his win condition, he still finds a way to pull out his Blue Eyes for instance.
In the duels that we see from Marik himself, his Revival Jam combo is the only one he repeats across the duels we see involving him. Strings, under his direct control, uses it, and then he, himself, uses it both against Mai and Yugi. It's literally the only card combo in his deck that always shows up in the duels featuring him or one of his direct minions (I don't really count the Joey duel in this because that one was clearly meant to not be a serious duel, he just wanted to torment Yugi). I think it's safe to say that his sister would get the Gravekeeper deck (which would be more fitting since Marik is the one who originally abandoned that lifestyle), while Marik would get the Slime deck.

I feel like there was a missed opportunity when it came to Joey's sister. He could have had Joey passed down his Red Eyes Black Dragon to his little sister not only as a sign of love but also to help set her on her path to become a better dualist.

Jinzo might be Espa Roba's most iconic card, but given that his whole thing was being a phony psychic, I feel like it would be more appropriate for him to drop Jinzo completely in favor of a Psychic deck. That said, it's definitely a stretch, but I want to say a Time Thief deck might be an interesting fit; it's got both Machine and Psychic monsters, as well as a number of effects to take advantage of your opponent's cards (Redoer, for example, can steal the top card of the opponent's deck, and could play into his psychic image if he can find a way to "predict" what card he's about to steal).
As for Bandit Kieth, retrains of Metalmorph and Metalzoa were announced recently, but I get the feeling that it would be more appropriate yet for him to switch to a Machina deck: Machines (like he's infamous for), designed for warfare and with a modern/futuristic aesthetic, and in particular the DARK-attribute ones are effectively evil retrains of the long-abandoned original Machina monsters, reflecting Kieth's own fall from grace and the lows he'd stoop to to claw his way back to the top.

For a blue eyes virus card, it could be called white wind virus; it would boost all light monsters' attacks by 300, while dark monsters would lose 300 attacks, and it would reduce the level/rank of light monsters by one for three turns. For dark monsters, your opponent would be unable to summon xyz monsters with dark attributes

With Weevil I can also see him going for Traptrix as an archetype. It's very technical and can help bypass most traps as well as set some backup just so he doesn't get screwed by Kaiba or Yugi popping out a Blue Eyes or Dark Magician in the form of Bottomless Trap Hole and Trap Hole of Spikes

Because Gold Sarcophagus is a bit of a cop out to me. I think Yugi would play whatever stun deck is the "best" at the time

An Ishizu archetype based around Blast Held By A Tribute would be interesting. Using effects to make detriments for using certain monsters as materials for your extra deck like “Give this card the effect: if this card is used as a material for a summon from the extra deck, the monster summoned loses 1000ATK” for example.

All this video has made me want is a modern retelling of the original series but specifically Duelist Kingdom (think Digimon Adventure 2020). I'd love to see them have a better structured retelling. Which would allow a retelling to like the original have anime-only cards to help some of the cards that don't fit the main archetypes. As for Tea/Anzu ... she seems to get Fairy decks in games so ... makes sense.

I would also be interested in which decks yugi, yami, seto and joey and mai would play if they couldn't use their old archetypes. Just some off the top of my head that I think would work are
    Kaiba - Dragon Ruler
    Yugi - Dual Avatar
    Joey - Salamangreat or timelord
    Bakura - Vendred
    Yami - Monarch
Mai - Fortune Lady or sky striker
Bandit keith - Ancient Gear or maybe that new goblin biker
    Wevile - Predaplant
Rex - fossil fusion or maybe dinowrestler
    Tristan - Spyrial
    Tea - Dragon maids

While you made the Dragonmaid joke for Kaiba idk why I think that would be a Mokuba deck when he finally decides to duel. Or some dragon type deck at least that ideally could even synergize with Seto's. But I think him having Dragonmaids would be a bit funny but I also think he seriously might. It kinda reminds me of Zigfried and his brother with the themeing.

You mentioning "Machine Soldiers" brought to mind the Machina cards, which I think works for Tristan, and Tae would play a Magician Girl deck, no question, Serenity I think would play Counter Fairies, Weevil I think would play Beetrooper, Rex Raptor I feel would play the Dino Retrain Deck you mentioned.

Because of Duel Links, I like the idea of Bonz using a Ghostrick deck. Not only are some of his level rewards and gate drops Ghostrick cards, but when unlocked, he mentions liking the archetype because, even though they seem weak and (well) TRICKY to use, he feels that they are relatable, which is really wholesome to me.
I mean yeah, it’s not PURE zombies, so I feel he could also go with Skull Servants or Zombie World instead (or heck, how about Vendread?), but to me I feel that Ghostrick would be perfect.

I also think another ideal deck that could fit Joey now in modern day, is a Gearfried-based because that top is one of his other favorite Warrior monsters.
I think Tristan should have a Battleguard-based deck.
Tea should have a Magician Girl-based deck.
I think Yugi (not Atem) should have a Silent Magician/Swordsman LV deck, Gadget XYZ or a Magnet Warrior deck.
Bandit Keith should have a Barrel Dragon-based deck or Machine King-based deck
Bonz should have a Wight-based or Ghostrick-based deck.
I think Ishizu would be better off with a Gravekeeper deck imo

Since Tea used Fairy monsters in her duel vs Mai in Duelist Kingdom, and in the Capsule Monsters Arc she had Seiyaryu (Surprising, isn't it?), clearly she'd use the Starry Knight Archetype. With the Fairy deck focus and Seiyaryu retrain as it's boss, it makes sense.

I think there’s still some room for Gearfried in a modern Joey deck. Between the Equip Spells and Fire Warrior monsters he’d be using, he’d be the perfect character to use Immortal Phoenix Gearfried. It’d be symbolic in a way of how he almost defeated Marik before.
I imagine he’d also use the Giltia retrain we got not too long ago. Its summoning condition is reminiscent of Duelist Kingdom and it has a banishing effect that could get rid of even Kaiba’s strongest monsters.

    Tossing out some suggestions.
Serenity only ever had the one duel so making an identity for her would be tough but I feel like she might play something like Sky Strikers since her one common thread was strong independent women.
Tristian’s whole thing was always macho man cards so I feel like he might adopt the Fur Hire archetype. It’s not that out there since he did have lava battle guard in duelist kingdom
And for Tea, I feel like she might go the magician girl route or since her goal was always to become a professional dancer, maybe she does something related to that? I know Nekroz has those Dance Princesses, not sure if there are better options there
