Elena vs. Aki would be an interesting matchup.match up.
Honestly, if they can make Ed functionality cool, I'm not worried about Elena.
I think sagat is probably the most iconic character missing but I also have a feeling that Dudley or makoto are around the corner
This is for sure.....they are showcasing a strong pattern of bringing in iconic rival characters and villains now....I bet Sagat is definitely coming in season 3 DLC with a mix of Alpha and Third Strike characters. I'm hoping the remaining classic characters will return too like Fei Long, Balrog, Vega, and Sakura.

There is a scene were bison is absorbing energy from a large energy orb possibly psycho power orb and my theory is bison opened up a rift in time ans space were it caused Terry and Mai to enter the world of capcom, that being said i wouldnt be surprised if we may also see 2 characters from tekken and marvel. Also i think due to the timing, Capcom and SNK had an agreement to help market City of the Wolves by adding fatal fury characters in sf6

The good thing about Fatal Fury lore its that its very "grounded" compared with things like Tekken or KOF so its very easy to add that to any other FG lore
well the director/producer of SF87 LEFT CAPCOM for SNK and FF as the true sequel to SF87
We arguably have 7-8 more seasons as they've stated they plan to support this game longer than previous titles!
They can't change Terry and Mai looks, I pretty sure the reason why they wear their OG costume is for brand recognition....but they will going to have alternative costumes, pretty much I assume the Garou Mark of the Wolves costume of Terry will be his costume 2, Mai in the other hand not sure.....by the time she came out, if SNK have reveal her look for CITY OF THE WOLVES (She will be in this game as her voice was one of the ones in the original trailer 1) so what ever costume she will wear for this game if SNK reveal her before launch, that I guess will be the costume 2 for her............costume 3 and forward is what we don't know, if these characters even get that, will be interesting to see what costumes SNK and Capcom approve them to wear, as SNK never really have done many DLC costumes.....so that will definitely be fun to watch.
I agree with you James. And to answer your question on the last part of the vid, I think Sakura would be the most iconic SF character missing from sf6 now. As for me, I would really like if they added Ibuki or Yun to the game :P
When it comes to Mai and Terry, I don't mind at all. I get why people are mad, but whatever. When it comes to this game it seems like people are always mad, so yeah, whatever. The way I see it since I can't get Dudley, and people want to constantly bitch about Ken, I get to use Terry. Next to Dudley and Sol Badguy, Terry is the 3rd character that I connected with in my childhood. Not to mention the man just hits hard and I like that.
As far as your bias take on the sprites for CVS1&2. I can see where you're coming from, BUT KoF13, I think they look better there, but that could be because of the costly graphics.

Oftentimes darker skinned characters are lightened up when compared to their original designs. Not sure if this really applies to Elena though. Outside of a few promo artworks that made her look like a tanned white woman, her artwork and appearance in games has been pretty consistent, IMO.
I like representation. That’s all it is. Dark black individuals need more visibility and portrayed as unreasonably beautiful like Elena is. I just thought it would be a good opportunity for that.

Legitimate question, assuming you’re allowed to answer it, but when do they bring you in to record the in-game commentary? It seems like you were genuinely surprised by the season two character reveal, and I figured they would’ve had commentators come in a few months before that to record the relevant lines.
I’m a color commentator. I have no character specific lines. So I’m in the dark as much as anyone else. I don’t ever record new lines.

13:13 My first Final Fantasy was the first one and 6 got me into it. But since we're getting patches more often and that Elena is releasing early in the game's lifecycle Healing may be balanced out over time.

Characters are deemed attractive when they are stripped of their African traits.
It’s one of the reasons I mentioned it. I think Elena looks absolutely stunning in this game but it bothers me because of the fact that she also looks more anime.

I think this pass is really cool but my mental health can *NOT* take another slow burn of updates and a soul crushing slog like between A.K.I. and Ed.
Also, I feel like Dudley not being here is strange but for non-personal bias I'd say Hugo and Fei Long are missing.
Honestly, Terry and Mai are going to come with the expectation of playing somewhat like they did in their original games. Partly for familiarity for players from those games, and partly to see how those movesets could work in the game they're coming into. For example, as a Mai main in KoFXIV/XV, I'd love to see how stuff like her wall dive or her ambiguous crossup knee will work in SF6.
id imagine she should be able to keep that since we have the parry mechanic so her offense wont be limited
healing will probably be a auto activation super which only automatically activates when elena is at 1% health, the health that is recovered will cancel out the damage from the opponent's combo that ends in CA
You don't even have to do anything that extreme. Simply turning it back into a super resolves the main issues it had in USF4.

I agree we should have got 6 DLC characters, especially if TWO of the slots are taken up by guest characters. It was on them to do that inclusion, we shouldn't take the hit for that call as everyone is waiting to play their favorite classic characters now. Either don't do guest characters or release 6 characters imo, they are charging a lot of money for these characters and many feel like they are being milked at this rate.
About Terry and Mai look the same, I wonder if it's a contractual thing that there is a limit to how much creative change Capcom can make to the SNK characters. (eg. Terry's alt costume must be the garou version, etc...)
I didn't like Capcom's take on SNK characters in CvS at all, but I also didn't like Street Fighter Alpha sprites compared to Street Fighter 2. I prefer the art style of classic early KoF and SF2, even if they didn't get as many frames of animation.
I like this season however I feel like this should have been a Season 6 or towards the final season. Make us want Bison and bringing Guest characters would be great in the last leg of the game’s life
Elena be the last character of Season 2 make so much sense because of her most hatred Super: Healing.
Missing the most: Mike Haggar or Dudley

KOF 2002, Garou, KOF 13, KOF XV, even Real Bout 2 had better interpretation of these characters than In CvS 1 and 2.

"For some reason".. Pretty sure the reason the S2 characters they are out of chronological order of release on the splash screen is for aesthetics sake. They just couldn't find a better way to put those images together. No idea why they didn't think about that before the images were drawn, but that's my take.

last night i found an academic interview from 5 years ago with the writer of a book exploring the relationship between Japan & Nazism:

19:15 Hrm, nah. The FF3/RBFF games are some of the best looking 2D fighters IMO. For the KOF/AOF characters at the time of CvS2's release, yeah, personally I think the old KOF's sprites didn't look great even back then. However if we extend the timeline to the present then KOF13 exists.
However, Capcom's animation and modeling staff are going to make these the best-looking and animated 3D incarnations of Terry and Mai for sure.
If it's so easy to make Healing not broken why didn't they do it in USF4?

I’m pretty disappointed with this announcement. It’s no hate towards SNK, I love and play their games regularly I just don’t like guests in any fighter. Seeing Baiken in top spots in a SamSho tourney is a buzzkill for me so the idea of Terry winning CPT is lame. I feel like there is so many other ways to cross promote and share each others games without shoehorning flagship characters from other IP’s. I am excited for the teams approach to Elena and the “new” Bison looks cool. Get bent Terry Bogard, bring back Sodom.
It was absolutely criminal that there were no 3rd Strike characters on launch, then season 1, now we gotta wait potentially another year for chars like Sean, Dudley, Makoto.. Idk the dlc so far has been really disappointing.

CVS2 still looks better than most of those, IMO. Is more of a style thing than frame count, size, or detail.
I'm pretty sure that James was mainly comparing sprite styles up until 2001, but, if you wanna throw XIII in there too, I still prefer many of the design choices in the CVS series. Some characters in XIII have odd/ugly faces and they made King look like a mop-top stick figure with boobs.
I get what you’re saying, but I still think they looked best in the CvS series. Aesthetically and more personality through their animations. Remember, even in KOFXIII, they were animated based off of 3D models, and while they look really good, they are also missing a lot of standard animation practices like stretching and smear frames and such. They undoubtedly did a great job in direction and with body types, but in CvS there’s still just an added extra UMPH in terms of adhering to animation practices that make them pop.

I thought the same about Elena Tone skin, with her racial features she look More like a mixed etnic at best or just a tanned caucasian, than black african, but I am not kenyan not ever was there so I may be wrong and she Is accurate, I neither know if she Is meant to be pure kenyan or not
Her and her brother are lighter-skinned with straight white hair and blue eyes compared to the rest of the family. There could be something to them being special or not "pure" in some sense.

Lots of people seem to be under the impression that it's just too much work making more than 4 characters per season with the RE: Engine and World Tour being aa thing. I don't believe this is the case. The World Tour content can literally be implemented in a couple of weeks; and if a character takes two years to make from the planning to the implementation, the RE: Engine's not the problem. Nope, like with everything else DLC, I'd wager the real culprit is the fact that they've realized they can get away with it: why spend money making six characters per season when you can charge the same for four? I mean, if other fighting games are also doing four, there's no external pressure to do what they did with SF V... so we're stuck with four, now and probably forever.
If difficulty, the issues are more on 3d model creation, effects and balance, ESPECIALLY with guest character since they probably need to check with SNK too. imo 4 is perfectly fine for a year. But I was also the same that was fine with their cadence of balance patch in season 1.

@@DANCERcow I mean most people haven't used re: engine in general so saying that it's hard or not as based on nothing imo.
I highly doubt it's extra hard compared to other to use otherwise the cost of using it would be a big issue for Capcom game releases in general, and that would cost them way too much money imo

She is Kenyan and most Kenyans don't have straight hair. so many hairstyles in Kenya that they could have used..

Capcom buying SNK and combining the Street Fighter and KoF worlds officially would be amazing. But I wouldn't want then to slowly disintegrate SNK, which is something I would be afraid of.

Nobody used/uses Elena in third strike, in USF4 she was the equivalent of SF6 Akuma for online win goons. The character is not popular and shouldnt have been added.
Character usage has never factored into who gets into SF. Elena regardless of how popular she is offers something unique to the roster. Also, no one used her online. She was a tournament only pick.
"Never" is strong word, but yes, character usage is not the main parameter they use to know who's in the game.

just like life, it takes all kinds! simultaneously, the FGC in the USA has so much visible ethnic & orientation diversity (which i think is a function of the rising to the top of solo competitive gaming in the FGC being more of a meritocracy), which remains adjacent to the red pill/sigma/incel schools of thought.
i want my nerdosphere to become more thoughtful, more compassionate, and more willing to talk trash that doesn’t aim at parts of us that we cannot-and shouldn’t need to-change 💯
