I recorded this off the air on a VCR when it first aired 30 years ago, then transferred it to a DVD about 15 years later, and have enjoyed it countless times over the decades. It was one of the most wonderful galas every produced. Thanks for posting it - my DVD is showing signs of wear and tear after so many years and your post is much more crisp. And thanks for your performance in the gala. Just wonderful!
I got this Gala when the was VHS. I also got the Gala on CD This a great Gala especially for those who do love Rossini masterpieces This Gala is a jewell From Santiago of Chile August 2016
You know I think in 1993 for Rossini's 201st birthday, Luciano Pavarotti should perform a Rossini Gala Concert at the Teatro Rossini theatre in Moderna, Italy, his home city. In which he sings tenor arias from the Rossini repertoire and leads a cast of soloists singing famous arias. And it should be on film. Can you imagine what it would be like?
@@biancacastafiore8760 How couldn't he be? I mean you must have heard him sing arias from Guillaume Tell and Stabat Mater on UA-cam or CDs? I have found them on UA-cam. Have a look and see.
@@biancacastafiore8760 Yes that's true But I think he should have sang the major Rossini roles, especially Lindoro from the Barber of Seville. That's why I'm envisioning an alternate Rossini Gala Concert with Luciano Pavarotti in it. Besides did you know he can sing belcanto opera as well? And can you imagine that concert if it was made and it was on film?
@@1997calvert Pavarotti would have been perfect in those Rossini parts. In fact I believe he lost a certain sweetness in his voice after singing heavier repertoire.
THank you. I was privileged to be there for this. Secure memories of such beautiful singing.
With love from Belarus, Mensk !!!!!!!!

Pavarotti was not a Rossini specialist
