Rockwell Blake, es sin duda una maravilla de cantante. Único. Y muchas veces ser personal en la lirica (y sus críticos) es casi un pecado. Es un fenómeno vocal, por muchas razones. Principalmente porque canta con una voz heróica y es en lírico con agilidad. Eso no es nada común. Para cantar se necesita no sólo un canto bonito, sino un carácter, y la coloratura lo pide. Cuando cantas coloratura con carácter es mil veces más efectiva, porque te conmueve. Y él puede lograrlo como pocos. Es fiel a si mismo, como lo demuestra aquí, canta con desparpajo, calidad, las coloraturas son casi al estilo Cecilia Bartoli, (sin comparar, por favor!!!!!). Es un artista que engalana el buen gusto y que además hace que la ópera sea aquello que también es:una tour de force. Bravo Rocky, cantas cual esttella de rock y bates a duelo como un boxeador a TODOS que tanto tienen para hablar de tu voz, técnica y trabajo de esfuerzos constantes......y no dicen nada de divas guturales que les funcionó la voz por cinco años de cierta gloria, y de otro divos que funcionan en grabaciones y no en vivo, y de otras estrellas que sólo tienen buen aspecto físico y son bastante más que aburridos. Quien escucha sólo diez grabaciónes del vivo de este señor cantante queda sin palabras, porque hace infinidad de cosas con su voz que cadi nadie puede. BRAVO.
Wow, what a rendition! Rockwell Blake is just exceptional. Funny how he gets all the cues from the prompter - mostly audible in the beginning. Even the best of the best sometimes need a bit of guidance.
I have been a fan of "Rocky" for decades...and yet I find him, his voice, and enigma. The term "lyric" is applied to him (as was it Pavarotti and Florez for instance) and yet, would one think they were in the same "box" listening to them side by side? I've heard countless recordings of Rocky and amazed at his upper register (even when it goes a bit "grainy") but am more taken with his coloratura passages as he seems to sing "at" the notes ( or even below and up at the notes) as opposed to "above" the note and let "it" or them (notes carry on beneath) To sing at the notes, the common approach it seems to me of those who make much of "placement", and still have that coloratura and upper register amazes me. I should think, as an alternative, an "open throat" (so called) technique would have been easier and less trying on his vocal chords. But, nonetheless, he is one of my faves inspite of this "enigma"....
