Don't know about it. Unless it was just the way the buildings worked. Minecolonies has no real economy or quest system. Or, I've never bothered to do any of the citizen quests.

It's just practice. And the blocks you have at hand. The buildings look better because of the modded blocks. Without them, the buildings look pretty bland.
I bet it looks better with random cracked and mossy bricks. I hope with so many things in such a small spot doesn't lock up the citizens. Are farms going to be placed outside ?
Yeah, farms will go outside the city. Or possibly inside the city? The schematics that exist right now allow an entire colony to be built inside the first ring of walls, excluding the farm, plantation, graveyard, and fields. I think part of the difficulty of the style is going to be in planning. There will be extra sets of corner towers to extend the walls out to a second ring, with actual buildings for all the crafter huts that are around the size of 5x3 schematics and made to built against the interior wall surface. That leads to the problem of the placement of the above schematics if one is wanting to build a city that is 2 or three rings of walls. Planning schematics will be included, as they usually are for clearing terrain and setting a flat area for the building.
