I think it’s very much this, plus the pressure for young girls to suppress their individuality and conform to the stereotype. Like growing up, if the only options you see are “boobs and makeup 😘” or “not like other girls 🤪” then you’re pretty much being told to lean hard into one or the other. Which doesn’t really lead to a healthy mindset. (Tbh, the redraws of the “them” and “me” girls as a lesbian couple are a great way to undermine this mindset, because it’s a nice reminder that “different” doesn’t have to mean “enemies” or that individuality isn’t, like, a competition.)
I went through the pick me phase hard when I was younger and it was definitely related to insecurities around not being picked- being the tom boyish tall friend that the guys could talk to about how amazing their best friend is that the guy has a crush on- that and the not wanting to be seen as dumb or shallow coz that was the image often put forward in media about feminine girls. Using Harley for a not like other girls post is also so wrong, she wouldn't agree with it:D
As someone who was a "not like other girls" girlie, SO MUCH YES. I was dealing with undiagnosed neurodivergency (and thus a lot of bullying, talking behind my back, etc) and a society telling me what a woman should and shouldn't be and telling me that in order to be a "proper woman" I had to fit into this mould. My "not like other girls" phase was spurned by a distaste and frustration with the rhetoric I'd been fed all my life and the split second judgments I got for not fitting their idea of girlhood or womanhood. It is okay to be a feminine girlie with your iced coffee, nails and makeup and it is okay to be a nerdy girlie with your baggy comfy clothes and nonfiction books. Neither is less deserving.
I always felt that way and had kind of judged myself assuming the only cause could be internalised misogyny. Turns out it was because I am autistic and genderfluid+queer and I actually was not like girls because I wasn't one. The enforced feminity expectation thing caused me a lot of discomfort growing up. It's much more comfortable now it's a choice to go in or out of feminine expression.

On the topic of prom (or Year 12 Ball, here in Western Australia), I had fellow goth friends who arrived at their prom in an icecream van with the music playing and it was MAGNIFICENT 😂 Different school, so I wasn't there, but saw video one of their dads filmed (the dad who owned and operated the van, with his son driving in the video). Just seeing an icecream van full of goths in vampire-esque formalwear pulling up must've been amazing, haha 🥰

As a kid, I said "I'm not like other girls." This year, I found out I was autistic and explained why I was so weird. The "solid, liquid, or gas female" bit had me for a good 5 minutes 😂😂😂 . I think Shaba is a gas & Jamie is liquid while I am also a gas The one time using the word female(s) outside of a medical situation is appropriate because it was witty, funny, & wasn't being used to make fun of woman or as a excuse to treat them like garbage. I also couldn't agree more that we should enjoy the things we like without feeling the need to put down others for liking something different. Some people like video games others like movies, some like reading books while others like audio books, some people's favorite genre is horror while others like romance etc. It all comes down to preferences along with how much time someone has in their day & if they can afford something or not. There are so many different factors involved that it makes no sense to put down other people because they don't share the exact same hobbies. Lastly, I would love to see you guys on the tour, but I have a busy weekend the week you guys are near me, but I hope the tour goes well & you both have lots of fun
My dad drove me and my then-girlfriend to prom in his Range Rover. Because we liked the car. You can rock up to prom however you want, but a limo is fun as hell
I'm a female in a leadership position in the makerspace I run w my partner, and my partner (amab) is sooooo much more experienced than me. It's really hard to push myself to be openly vulnerable in my learning process while also visibly hyperfemme. I was also the first female to live here w/o a bf (before I met my partner or took over). Also hard to balance between "yes teach me the thing I'm not too proud" and "also don't take things out of my hand or insist in offering unwanted help". I feel like I'm not allowed to make the same mistakes as others, ppl want to "help" by pointing me right toward the successful path and they mean well but I learn best from fucking up and fixing it. Unless it's a safety issue ofc.
I absolutely agree, it's so hard to be a solid female where I live these days. A solid anyone, really. We're going through a bit of a heatwave, and I'm melting 😭
I had a VERY strong "not like other girls" phase, luckily i got over it as i got older Now i know im not even a girl in the first place and i can embrace my feminine side SO much more than when i was younger!
With Jamie's accident prone life, I get it. I once cut my palm with a spoon. A spoon!! The eventual EDS diagnosis made a lot of sense tbh, my skin is like paper sometimes, I swear
For that homesteader gal peeling the apples is needed if you do anything to them besides eating them raw. Prep for cider, sauce, pie filling etc. That spiral slicer she has is actually basically a must have for people with fruit trees (especially apples), cuts that peeling time by a huge amount vs using a knife. And to make apple items you need a ton of peeled apples, which is good cuz a single good tree will be giving ~75lbs of apples a harvest year. Those snack packs of apple sauce you buy at a store are 1 large apple per plastic cup. Usually you eat the peel as a little snack while working, or lightly bake it so it's dried and preserved for little snacks over a larger amount of time, or put it in a compost pile as a super nutritious worm snack.
Okay, but that one apple peeler is actually a corer, peeler, and slicer all in one. You just pop an apple on there and turn the crank and it speed things up so much for baked goods like apple pies, and also guarantees the the slices will be a uniform thickness for consistent baking
18:07 This right here is how I know you two are married to the correct person for you. It’s a completely nonsensical conversation but it totally makes sense, and I could see how you’re best friends as well at partners for life. I might have to play solid, liquid or gas with my husband now 😂
Shaaba is solid. Solid good human being all round. Shaaba is liquid. Bubbly fun personality. Shaaba is gas. Makes Jamie walk on air every time she is near
The apple peeler/corer is a great wrist saver for when one has a tin of apples to process. However I’m pretty sure she was water glassing eggs which is not a safe method of egg preservation.
I used to just watch Jamie on here because I loved his takes on being kind but still calling out bad stuff when he saw it, but just the interactions between him and Shaaba brought me to her channel too, since they were so cute together! They can disagree and not get mad, and when they start laughing together it makes me laugh. Such a wholesome couple! :3

I love all of the "stereotypical" girl things I also have so much fun fishing and I love my hair short and I like some sport and I absolutely love things like mechanics and woodworking. You can like any variety of things.
25:37 My best friend growing up was always so scatty and clumsy, completely accident prone. We finally caught up a few months ago having not seen each other for 12 years. And she was exactly the same. She said she finally got diagnosed with dyspraxia at the age of 38, and when she told me that it all made complete sense. I never questioned her scattiness or clumsiness growing up because to me, that was just her and the way she was. Her diagnosis hadn’t changed anything for her but she’s glad she now knows why. We were on a hike in the redwoods at the time with a bunch of tree roots. So my husband walked in front of us to point out all the tree roots coming up so she wouldn’t trip 😊
Shaaba is clearly a Bose-Einstein Condensate and Jamie is quite plainly a Quark-Gluon Plasma. The three default matter states of basic physics cannot contain these two lol

33:10 Florida suburbs are not like other suburbs. You can't walk down any residential street without seeing big trucks like that in driveways. So unique. Yes, I know that many places outside Florida are like this and that not every part of Florida is. That's the point lol
6:09 Based solely on the type of apples she's using, I'm pretty sure she's peeling apples to make a pie with, or like an apple jam, both of which are better when the apple is peeled. If I had to peel 10+ apples I would totally break out a machine to help
I am Gen Z and still to this day don't understand the hate for Skinny Jeans. They are literally all I wear. For my body shape they work and look good. I am average height but have a short torso and long legs so skinny jeans work well because they are often long enough for my legs and often need to be worn higher on the waist. But also just let clothes be clothes. Don't stress about looking cool or keeping up with trends. If you like a piece of clothing, if when you wear it you feel comfortable and confident then wear that famn piece of clothing. If you like skinny jeans, wear skinny jeans. If you like baggy over sized clothes wear baggy oversized clothes. Just wear clothes and screw everyone else.
I don't hate the jeans for being skinny (some people fit well in skinny), nor for being jeans (I'm a jeans fan myself). I hate all the rips. Even when they came out in the early grunge days I was "why??? You just look like you can't get new jeans in the worst way". If I had ripped jeans by some accident, I'd patch them up. But I would never buy jeans with rips in them
@@elaineb7065 then don't buy them. It's literally that easy. If you see them in a shop, walk past them and buy jeans you like. A d don't bash people for liking and wearing ripped style jeans. Some people like the style, some people like those jeans so they choose to wear them. You really didn't understand me when I said to just let clothes be clothes did you? If you are comfortable and confident in a clothing item then you wear that clothing item. If a different person is comfortable and confident in an item of clothing they love but you don't really like 1) it doesn't affect your life in any way 2) leave them alone and let them wear it.
@@susannairisastarte5192 you're welcome xx. I hate when people get all judgey and preachy and gatekeepy about clothes. Saying that only certain people can wear this thing or that like that thing isn't the "cool or trendy" style anymore. Like get a goddamn life. If we all dresses the same everyday the world would be boring. Clothes are clothes. Also clothes are the easiest and quickens way that a person has to express themselves. It's something they are in control of in life so just let people wear what they like.

I'm not like other girls. I'm actually an octopus in a wig.
great spelling, good floof!

I'm 2 gay wolves at starbucks
That's it, I'm making "Thank you for your disintegration" the sign-off for my emails.
Maybe deconstruction was the intended/inspiring word?
The chaotic wholesomeness when you make a video together is through the roof! Nice video, thank you, lovely people
Okay, how cute was Jamie's sadness at the disappearance of Shaaba's leg stubble!
I wish I could see that video of them.
Sounds awesome.
@@alicecain4851 Yeah, it happened long enough ago that most phones didn't have cameras, so it was filmed on a digital camcorder, lol. I lost touch with that group over the years, but I hope the video still exists somewhere, cuz it should absolutely be preserved and shared 😁
Solid female sounds like a name for an //adult// items shop
I read that as 'solid female sounds' which is also a good name for an adult items shop
As a kid, I said "I'm not like other girls."
This year, I found out I was autistic and explained why I was so weird. Explains my hyperobsessions with doctor who, JoJo's bizarre adventure, and Pokemon. I have memorized all the nuwho episode titles and actors of all the doctors, I know all the stands in jojo and own even the light novels, and I literally know every pokemon by silhouette and have played every mainline pokemon game.
yooo i was deep in my doctor who hyperfixation a few years ago and i’ve literally started watching jojo’s i love them :]
Shaaba’s dramatic readings of some of these had me laughing so hard 😂😂
I always thought I wasn't like other girls, turns out I was right! Love being enby, lol
Sameeee
It's the same thing, you just call it different name. You are still a girl who thinks she is not like other girls. All of you are.
@@saoirse2963 they arent a girl, lol obviously theyll be different
@@saoirse2963once again, you're incorrect.

Watching you guys together gives me hope ❤😭 I love seeing people be happy together
16:01 The thing that bothers me the most about this is that people who don't actually still have their real eyelashes and eyebrows are probably going through chemo or something. It's a very thoughtless implication.
Also alopecia
✨ liquid female ✨
I’m definitely like Jamie I’m super clumsy I can fall over fresh air so i really understand Jamie with the clumsiness
The "solid, liquid, or gas female" bit had me for a good 5 minutes 😂😂😂 . I think Shaba is a gas & Jamie is liquid while I am also a gas
The one time using the word female(s) outside of a medical situation is appropriate because it was witty, funny, & wasn't being used to make fun of woman or as a excuse to treat them like garbage.
I rocked up to my prom in a minivan with a handmade sign in the window that read, “Budget Limo Service”
I swear to God I read Range Rover as Power Ranger
And limos can be almost anything.
Shaaba screaming "I AM GAS!" was not in my 2024 bingo, but here we are. I totally lost it at the cloud and fart discussion lmao you two are the best
32:10 lol the ford raptor is so big it's like being in a combat tank😂
The 'alright dory' made me laugh more than it should have hahah
I absolutely agree, it's so hard to be a solid female where I live these days. A solid anyone, really. We're going through a bit of a heatwave, and I'm melting 😭
I had a VERY strong "not like other girls" phase, luckily i got over it as i got older
Now i know im not even a girl in the first place and i can embrace my feminine side SO much more than when i was younger!
With Jamie's accident prone life, I get it. I once cut my palm with a spoon. A spoon!! The eventual EDS diagnosis made a lot of sense tbh, my skin is like paper sometimes, I swear
I'd tell ya to stick to wooden spoons but you'd prolly get a splinter from that.
dude my friend cut her hand w a doughnut once
@@roerose4449 I'm sorry but that's the funniest thing to imagine ever
Female cats are liquid...
Wait... Every cat is liquid! 🐈
I'm not like other girls, I'm plasma 🔥
It’s called internalised misogyny ✨
Okay, but that one apple peeler is actually a corer, peeler, and slicer all in one. You just pop an apple on there and turn the crank and it speed things up so much for baked goods like apple pies, and also guarantees the the slices will be a uniform thickness for consistent baking
I love the chemistry between you two 🥰 you’re so cute & funny together!
EDIT : mood check - who here’s happy?
18:07 This right here is how I know you two are married to the correct person for you. It’s a completely nonsensical conversation but it totally makes sense, and I could see how you’re best friends as well at partners for life. I might have to play solid, liquid or gas with my husband now 😂
God you too as absolutely adorable. Its a shame your tour is nowhere near me 😭
I think you're both solid, liquid, gas and plasma, biologically speaking
plasma is matter compressed and heated above 3000°K
tell me how we are partially made from plasma
@@crypticlolthe other meaning of plasma is a part of blood. i think it’s a play on words
I can't stop laughing at the gas female 🤣 I've laughed so hard my eyes are watering
Do they realize they could make pies and raise chickens WHILE listening to Taylor Swift? Like these two things aren't mutually exclusive.
I don't like Taylor Swift music but that argument she made was so fucking dumb. Like bitch, these things don't even correlate.
Jamie looking for the leg stubbles and being disapointed was the cutest thing!
This was absolutely hilarious 🤣 couldn't stop laughing at them laughing basically through this whole video, wholesome content despite the topic 😂
You two are so adorable, I swear. This video was so wholesome and funny.
Gas/liquid/solid? Nah... what you two are is TOO FUCKING ADORABLE.
@@purpleiguana208 hey again bigot. Still ok with pushback against trans people?
I used to just watch Jamie on here because I loved his takes on being kind but still calling out bad stuff when he saw it, but just the interactions between him and Shaaba brought me to her channel too, since they were so cute together! They can disagree and not get mad, and when they start laughing together it makes me laugh. Such a wholesome couple! :3
I want whatever it is that Jamie and Shaaba were on for this video. I need that kind of energy lmao
its so nice to see you interacting , the energy of the video was immediately up and it was so nice to see how you two make each other so happy just by being in each other's presence .
it makes me think some day i could find someone who i enjoyed the company of that much , and it made me realize what a good relationship should be like .
I have always been so confused by the, "I'm not like other girls." BS. I love makeup. I love getting dressed up. I love all of the "stereotypical" girl things I also have so much fun fishing and I love my hair short and I like some sport and I absolutely love things like mechanics and woodworking. You can like any variety of things.
I went thru that "I'm not like OtHeR girls" phase when I was in my 20s... Back in the 80s.
You two are adorable together, btw.
All girls are like and not like other girls. This is a lovely video, the jokes and you guys cracking up hard together was so funny.
Ok, so all ive gotten from this video is i need to try to catch y'all's twitch streams because you both exude chaotic energy and I'm here for it
If I'm an Aquarius who loves to swim and my main method to relax is having a bath/soothing shower, am I a liquid female? 🤔🤣
Well, Aquarius is technically an air sign...
Also, hello, fellow Aquarius.

I didn't know there are more than 1 type of plasma
I absolutely love how much fun you guys have in this video!!🤗
I just started the video and I already chuckled
I love when you make videos together! It means uncontrolled laughing and fun. You two are such a great couple.

The vibes were so over the top that you cheered me right up. I never laughed as much on your videos as I did today. Keep beeing the gassy/liquid you 😄

I love it so so much when Shaaba and Jamie do videos together, they are so fun and creative, I had a hard time keeping myself from pissing myself with laughter. Hope you book tour goes well!
33:10 Florida suburbs are not like other suburbs. You can't walk down any residential street without seeing big trucks like that in driveways. So unique.
Yes, I know that many places outside Florida are like this and that not every part of Florida is. That's the point lol
Yep I see this in N Texas suburbs too. $70k+ trucks and Teslas of all types. All they’re doing is driving to their cushy office jobs! Smh
The level of sheer silliness between you two this video is epic. I love it
6:09 Based solely on the type of apples she's using, I'm pretty sure she's peeling apples to make a pie with, or like an apple jam, both of which are better when the apple is peeled. If I had to peel 10+ apples I would totally break out a machine to help
You two make me laugh so much! Your couple-energy is through the roof! I hope me and mine are like you guys.
Gen X . Thank you!
