I used to say that too but I'm still a girl and I'm lot like other people of various genders :D also, I wish I was a lesbian hahahaha (but I love my husband)

I saw this phrase once! I personally almost went through the "not like other girls phase" until I realized that yes, I am not like other girls, because I am not a girl. I would think though that that's the exception, not the norm. It still does make me sad when I realize how many women feel like they have to prove individuality, because I thought we'd be better by now. Is what it is though.
I think it’s very much this, plus the pressure for young girls to suppress their individuality and conform to the stereotype. Like growing up, if the only options you see are “boobs and makeup 😘” or “not like other girls 🤪” then you’re pretty much being told to lean hard into one or the other. Which doesn’t really lead to a healthy mindset. (Tbh, the redraws of the “them” and “me” girls as a lesbian couple are a great way to undermine this mindset, because it’s a nice reminder that “different” doesn’t have to mean “enemies” or that individuality isn’t, like, a competition.)
I went through the pick me phase hard when I was younger and it was definitely related to insecurities around not being picked- being the tom boyish tall friend that the guys could talk to about how amazing their best friend is that the guy has a crush on- that and the not wanting to be seen as dumb or shallow coz that was the image often put forward in media about feminine girls. Lol I'm very glad I'm out the other side of that. Being able to embrace how I'm comfortable expressing my femininity diverse ways has shown me that femininity isn't just a one size fits all expression.

I always felt that way and had kind of judged myself assuming the only cause could be internalised misogyny. Turns out it was because I am autistic and genderfluid+queer and I actually was not like girls because I wasn't one. The enforced feminity expectation thing caused me a lot of discomfort growing up. It's much more comfortable now it's a choice to go in or out of feminine expression.

16:10 to be fair, most ppl who have eyelash extensions, acrylics, and filled or plucked brows *do still have their real brows, nails, and lashes.* Like... yeah theres extra *added* but you dont remove and replace the originals. Its just like having cake with or without icing. To have cake with icing, you dont have to get rid of the cake and just have a plate of icing. You just add some icing on top. Some folks preffer cake with no, or very little icing. Some like their cake covered in icing. Both are totally fine ways to have your damn cake!
Exactly! I still have real nails even though I wear false ones sometimes or stick ons. It's not like the nails no longer exist just because I choose to wear falsies sometimes.

@@Anonymous-54545 Sounds delightful! Myself and my partner have recently realised that we're both probably AuDHD too and have been having similar fun unmasking at home. We can have full conversations without using any actual words! 😆
I had a date (like 20 years or so ago) just SERIOUSLY SURPRISED I KNEW HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION CAR and assumed I wouldn't know how to do it well (that I would stall out). He just didn't think women could drive manual... and I'm thinking, "I would think you would want your date to know how to drive a stick." LOL. Yeah, I was sure as hell not driving his stick.
Yeah like... my folks are the furthest thing from trad cottagecore whatever and they had one (it might be in a box somewhere? I dunno but I haven't seen it since we moved)
That person who has chickens and cooks from scratch "instead of" listening to Taylor Swift... does she not know you can listen to music while you do other things? It doesn't have to be either/or.
If you're making applesauce or apple butter in large quantities you have to peel pounds and pounds of apples is far easier to just a stick one on the machine crank the handle and done ^^
@@lethfuil Apple butter is a spread, similar to jam. It's essentially applesauce cooked/reduced down to a thick, spreadable paste. It's absolutely delicious on toast!
@@lethfuil I don't know where you live, but in the USA it can often be found in the grocery store next to the jam and honey and stuff like that. Homemade is absolutely better if you're able, though.
16:01 The thing that bothers me the most about this is that people who don't actually still have their real eyelashes and eyebrows are probably going through chemo or something. It's a very thoughtless implication.
@@lynnrolaf7422 As do I -- and not only because their sheer joy in one another reminds me of my connection with my own partner, whose ability to make me laugh and lift my heart even on my lowest days is unparalleled.
As a kid, I said "I'm not like other girls." This year, I found out I was autistic and explained why I was so weird. Explains my hyperobsessions with doctor who, JoJo's bizarre adventure, and Pokemon. I have memorized all the nuwho episode titles and actors of all the doctors, I know all the stands in jojo and own even the light novels, and I literally know every pokemon by silhouette and have played every mainline pokemon game.
These two.... So much love. Shaaba screaming "I'M GAS!!!" made me spittake. This video was chaos in the best way. I love seeing you two have so much fun together, it's so funny and cute. I laughed sooooo much during this vid
On the topic of prom (or Year 12 Ball, here in Western Australia), I had fellow goth friends who arrived at their prom in an icecream van with the music playing and it was MAGNIFICENT 😂 Different school, so I wasn't there, but saw video one of their dads filmed (the dad who owned and operated the van, with his son driving in the video). Just seeing an icecream van full of goths in vampire-esque formalwear pulling up must've been amazing, haha 🥰
@@alicecain4851 Yeah, it happened long enough ago that most phones didn't have cameras, so it was filmed on a digital camcorder, lol. I lost touch with that group over the years, but I hope the video still exists somewhere, cuz it should absolutely be preserved and shared 😁
I find it so weird that there are people make not being a Swiftie their personality. I'm not a Swiftie, I still BSB4LYF :p but I like her music and impact on the worldm
My dad drove me and my then-girlfriend to prom in his Range Rover. Because we liked the car. You can rock up to prom however you want, but a limo is fun as hell
Shaaba is solid. Solid good human being all round. Shaaba is liquid. Bubbly fun personality. Shaaba is gas. Makes Jamie walk on air every time she is near
I'm a female in a leadership position in the makerspace I run w my partner, and my partner (amab) is sooooo much more experienced than me. It's really hard to push myself to be openly vulnerable in my learning process while also visibly hyperfemme. I was also the first female to live here w/o a bf (before I met my partner or took over). Also hard to balance between "yes teach me the thing I'm not too proud" and "also don't take things out of my hand or insist in offering unwanted help". I feel like I'm not allowed to make the same mistakes as others, ppl want to "help" by pointing me right toward the successful path and they mean well but I learn best from fucking up and fixing it. Unless it's a safety issue ofc.
The "solid, liquid, or gas female" bit had me for a good 5 minutes 😂😂😂 . I think Shaba is a gas & Jamie is liquid while I am also a gas The one time using the word female(s) outside of a medical situation is appropriate because it was witty, funny, & wasn't being used to make fun of woman or as a excuse to treat them like garbage. I also couldn't agree more that we should enjoy the things we like without feeling the need to put down others for liking something different. Some people like video games others like movies, some like reading books while others like audio books, some people's favorite genre is horror while others like romance etc. It all comes down to preferences along with how much time someone has in their day & if they can afford something or not. There are so many different factors involved that it makes no sense to put down other people because they don't share the exact same hobbies. Lastly, I would love to see you guys on the tour, but I have a busy weekend the week you guys are near me, but I hope the tour goes well & you both have lots of fun
Shaaba is clearly a Bose-Einstein Condensate and Jamie is quite plainly a Quark-Gluon Plasma. The three default matter states of basic physics cannot contain these two lol
With Jamie's accident prone life, I get it. I once cut my palm with a spoon. A spoon!! The eventual EDS diagnosis made a lot of sense tbh, my skin is like paper sometimes, I swear
The ribs and mac & cheese looks like the parent is saying my kid eats my food. 😂 You know that toddler stage where its like having a dog begging at the table anytime you sit and eat.
I had a VERY strong "not like other girls" phase, luckily i got over it as i got older Now i know im not even a girl in the first place and i can embrace my feminine side SO much more than when i was younger!
Okay, but that one apple peeler is actually a corer, peeler, and slicer all in one. You just pop an apple on there and turn the crank and it speed things up so much for baked goods like apple pies, and also guarantees the the slices will be a uniform thickness for consistent baking
I have always been so confused by the, "I'm not like other girls." BS. I love makeup. I love getting dressed up. I love all of the "stereotypical" girl things I also have so much fun fishing and I love my hair short and I like some sport and I absolutely love things like mechanics and woodworking. You can like any variety of things.
I absolutely agree, it's so hard to be a solid female where I live these days. A solid anyone, really. We're going through a bit of a heatwave, and I'm melting 😭
The apple peeler/corer is a great wrist saver for when one has a tin of apples to process. However I’m pretty sure she was water glassing eggs which is not a safe method of egg preservation.
I am Gen Z and still to this day don't understand the hate for Skinny Jeans. They are literally all I wear. For my body shape they work and look good. I am average height but have a short torso and long legs so skinny jeans work well because they are often long enough for my legs and often need to be worn higher on the waist. But also just let clothes be clothes. Don't stress about looking cool or keeping up with trends. If you like a piece of clothing, if when you wear it you feel comfortable and confident then wear that famn piece of clothing. If you like skinny jeans, wear skinny jeans. If you like baggy over sized clothes wear baggy oversized clothes. Just wear clothes and screw everyone else.
I don't hate the jeans for being skinny (some people fit well in skinny), nor for being jeans (I'm a jeans fan myself). I hate all the rips. Even when they came out in the early grunge days I was "why??? You just look like you can't get new jeans in the worst way". If I had ripped jeans by some accident, I'd patch them up. But I would never buy jeans with rips in them
@@elaineb7065 then don't buy them. It's literally that easy. If you see them in a shop, walk past them and buy jeans you like. A d don't bash people for liking and wearing ripped style jeans. Some people like the style, some people like those jeans so they choose to wear them. You really didn't understand me when I said to just let clothes be clothes did you? If you are comfortable and confident in a clothing item then you wear that clothing item. If a different person is comfortable and confident in an item of clothing they love but you don't really like 1) it doesn't affect your life in any way 2) leave them alone and let them wear it.
@@susannairisastarte5192 you're welcome xx. I hate when people get all judgey and preachy and gatekeepy about clothes. Saying that only certain people can wear this thing or that like that thing isn't the "cool or trendy" style anymore. Like get a goddamn life. If we all dresses the same everyday the world would be boring. Clothes are clothes. Also clothes are the easiest and quickens way that a person has to express themselves. It's something they are in control of in life so just let people wear what they like.
I can see why someone might not get it if they haven't made an apple pie with a peeler like that before. It is rather specialized for when you need to peel a bunch of apples at once, and helps save time
@@lethfuil My family gets a bunch of apples when they're in season, so we ended up having one to be able to help cook them up before they went bad. The peels were always tasty to snack on afterwards
I used to just watch Jamie on here because I loved his takes on being kind but still calling out bad stuff when he saw it, but just the interactions between him and Shaaba brought me to her channel too, since they were so cute together! They can disagree and not get mad, and when they start laughing together it makes me laugh. Such a wholesome couple! :3
I'm betting there are cutters for the flower bananas that make it really simple! There are sandwiches cutters, too & I used to do Dino cut sandwiches in my uni lunches! They made me smile in the middle of often stressful, anxiety ridden days! If the truck took someone to prom without the trailer, fine, but truckers arent known for being clean, so the seats are likely oily/muddy/dirty, plus getting out of that truck in a dress & heels sounds like a nightmare/hospital trip to me! If they are planning on riding in the trailer, that's extremely unsanitary & illegal! Who really wants to come to prom with animal shit on their clothes?! Also, how is it a flex to say you have "real" eye brows/lashes & nails when lacking those are typically signs of cancer or other severe mental/physical conditions. Just being ableist, tbh. Even those who shave their eyebrows have some "real" hairs under the surface or within a day or 2. Ive never heard of anyone plucking all their eyelashes out unless its mental health related. Are they actually trying to flex on women who choose to pay more for specific styles, but just didnt want to say "are natural"? Maybe because they themselves have some implants/injections, perhaps, & know they'll get called out (which they probably were anyway)? Hmmm. 🤔 🪨🪨 & 🪟🏘 🤨 "So accident prone they could trip on a chalk line" is such an ADHD description! My dad & I literally shuffle our feet because of our lack of balance & likelihood of tripping on nothing! My little 8yr old neice is fairly accident prone as well, but hopefully she will outgrow it as shes very sensitive to pain. Her little 3 yr old brother will fall & hit his head, only to get up saying "im fine". You cant bring up other injuries where he did cry, though...he will cry just remembering when he cried 🥺. A couple funny stories from when I was a kid that the "liquid/gas" conversation between Shaaba/Jamie reminded me of. Also, I apologize in advance for my ADHD & needing to give a backstory to a backstory to explain the relation. My family, being undiagnosed neurodivergent until very recently, was very humor based, our way of getting around awkward social situations & something I am very grateful I learned as a pre-schooler! Due to this family coping skill, we have A LOT of inside jokes. These back stories explain 2 of them, if you have the time & interest to read them, as i know jokes arent as funny when you need to explain them, but they do make/inspire even funnier future jokes & might be relatable stories: 1st family inside joke: These both happened when my brother was around 7th grade & I was about 5th. I was clearing the dining table, my parents finishing up with dinner prep, & brother, having been asked to set the table was looking in the fridge & ask my parents, "where's the dip?". My dad, the head goofball, put on a straight face & told him to go look in the bathroom mirror, which my brother did. Then, he came back a minute later confused, saying, "I didn't see any dip in the bathroom across from the mirror or on the counter", to which my dad bursted up laughing while my mom explained that "dip" is an insult that means "dumb". My brother laughed a bit at his own ignorance, while I was busting up as much as my dad at the irony, thinking this was the funniest shit I'd heard all week, despite being just as ignorant to the insult as my brother & just as easily could have been "the dip"! 2nd inside joke, sometime within the next 6 months of the "dip" joke: My brother & I where doing our homework at the dinning room table & from the kitchen TV, where our mom was making dinner, there was a TV news story about a breakout of ecoli & salmonella. Not knowing what those were, I asked my mom first what salmonella is. My brother, helpfully said, "its why I have to wash my hands when petting or getting licked/bit by Spike (his iguana, she only bit on accident when hand feeding)". My mom however, being in a humorous mood, replied in an uncharacteristic Mrs. Frizzle responding to a student's correct answer kind of way,"that's right! Your brother is salmonella & we don't want Spike to get sick from him!" While we all laughed while I asked, "does that make you (my mom, who cleaned most of the pet cages at the time) ecoli? 😂", to which which she answered, "if you want to know who ecoli is, you're going to have to go look in the mirror!" Relation to Shaaba/Jamie's convo: Since those instances/to this day, whenever ecoli/salmonella are heard/mentioned, my mom will ask me, "were you salmonella & was [brother's name] ecoli?" To which, in the same faux-offended tone as Shaaba insisted at the start of the ice tea girl post "I'm gas!", I will respond, "No, I'm ecoli!" Sometimes we are even overheard by those other than my brother & their looks of confusion only makes the inside joke even more funny!
its so nice to see you interacting , the energy of the video was immediately up and it was so nice to see how you two make each other so happy just by being in each other's presence . it makes me think some day i could find someone who i enjoyed the company of that much , and it made me realize what a good relationship should be like .
Shaaba: I'm GAS!!! 😂 Geez that whole bit was hilarious. The whole "I don't wear/like trendy stuff and therefore I'm cool" is so silly to me. You're still allowing what's trendy to determine what you like 🤦♀️ I was at an antique shop and heard a guy in the next aisle saying "oh yeahhh I used to wear hats like that, but then hipsters started wearing them. And when I got called a hipster I knew I couldn't wear it anymore, ugh 🙄" Like, wut. So you only liked that style hat because it "wasn't popular"? I just don't get it. Wear what you like, you don't have to "fit" in any style and you can change things up too if you want! Don't let others affect the joy you have in the things you like (and if you like to be trendy, that's totally fine too believe it or not!) I used to get offended when people called me hipster or basic (yes, I got both simultaneously which shows how subjective they are 😂) but now I don't care. I like what I like, and I wish that for everyone because it's very freeing and happier.
18:07 This right here is how I know you two are married to the correct person for you. It’s a completely nonsensical conversation but it totally makes sense, and I could see how you’re best friends as well at partners for life. I might have to play solid, liquid or gas with my husband now 😂
I used to be such a “not like other girls” as a teen. Luckily I was also shy and introverted and didn’t really have social media yet, so I couldn’t be an asshole about it. Then in the first week of college a girl started talking to me and, oh no, she liked makeup! And fashion! And boys! The horror! And then we became friends and I found out that people who like those things have other interests too and are actual human beings! The enlightenment! Also in my 30s I figured out I’m a trans guy. I wasn’t like other girls cause other girls are girls 🤷♂️

I feel like Shaaba's ADHD comes out more in your videos together than in her solo videos and it's beautiful!
I enjoy both of you individually, but when you're together it's just magical ✨️
Yeah you can definitely see she's comfortable around Jamie and doesn't mask as much it's so sweet :>

This video brought me so much joy. The whole exchange about solid, liquid, gas had me laughing so hard.

To be clear, the device the one lady was using is an apple corer-peeler-slicer. It's typically used to prepare apples for apple pies specifically.
Yeah like... my folks are the furthest thing from trad cottagecore whatever and they had one (it might be in a box somewhere? I dunno but I haven't seen it since we moved)
Also for canning apples or making applesauce. Though I make applesauce with the skin still on
Or just when you need to prep a bunch of apples at once. It can be very handy
Sounds like it would be useful for making brown bettys, too
shaaba’s curls and color look GORGEOUS! 💕
that bounce tho
That person who has chickens and cooks from scratch "instead of" listening to Taylor Swift... does she not know you can listen to music while you do other things? It doesn't have to be either/or.
I was thinking the same thing! I love to listen to music while doing chores.
✨ liquid female ✨
If you're making applesauce or apple butter in large quantities you have to peel pounds and pounds of apples is far easier to just a stick one on the machine crank the handle and done ^^
I don't peel mine when I make applesauce and apple butter
What is apple butter?
@@lethfuil Apple butter is a spread, similar to jam. It's essentially applesauce cooked/reduced down to a thick, spreadable paste. It's absolutely delicious on toast!
@@gluedwithgold Uhuu, that sounds indeed delicious! I need to make that. Thank you! ^^
@@lethfuil I don't know where you live, but in the USA it can often be found in the grocery store next to the jam and honey and stuff like that. Homemade is absolutely better if you're able, though.

"Chairdrobe" is genius! Finally I have a proper name instead for "The Chair" in the bedroom. Shaaba is brilliant..... in any state! ⛅❄️🌊

As a kid, I said "I'm not like other girls."
This year, I found out I was autistic and explained why I was so weird.
The banter was tiptop this episode, you two literally had me cry laughing at points XD

Okay, how cute was Jamie's sadness at the disappearance of Shaaba's leg stubble!
It’s called internalised misogyny ✨
shaaba's energy is so infectious, found myself smiling through the whole video.
I wish I could see that video of them.
Sounds awesome.
@@alicecain4851 Yeah, it happened long enough ago that most phones didn't have cameras, so it was filmed on a digital camcorder, lol. I lost touch with that group over the years, but I hope the video still exists somewhere, cuz it should absolutely be preserved and shared 😁

The chaotic wholesomeness when you make a video together is through the roof! Nice video, thank you, lovely people
My dad drove me and my then-girlfriend to prom in his Range Rover. Because we liked the car. You can rock up to prom however you want, but a limo is fun as hell
I rocked up to my prom in a minivan with a handmade sign in the window that read, “Budget Limo Service”
I swear to God I read Range Rover as Power Ranger
And limos can be almost anything.
I’m definitely like Jamie I’m super clumsy I can fall over fresh air so i really understand Jamie with the clumsiness
Gas/liquid/solid? Nah... what you two are is TOO FUCKING ADORABLE.
Shaba is plasma, Jamie is superliquid.
The "solid, liquid, or gas female" bit had me for a good 5 minutes 😂😂😂 . I think Shaba is a gas & Jamie is liquid while I am also a gas
The one time using the word female(s) outside of a medical situation is appropriate because it was witty, funny, & wasn't being used to make fun of woman or as a excuse to treat them like garbage.
Do they realize they could make pies and raise chickens WHILE listening to Taylor Swift? Like these two things aren't mutually exclusive.
I don't like Taylor Swift music but that argument she made was so fucking dumb. Like bitch, these things don't even correlate.
Shaaba is clearly a Bose-Einstein Condensate and Jamie is quite plainly a Quark-Gluon Plasma. The three default matter states of basic physics cannot contain these two lol
I didn't know there are more than 1 type of plasma
I can't stop laughing at the gas female 🤣 I've laughed so hard my eyes are watering
With Jamie's accident prone life, I get it. I once cut my palm with a spoon. A spoon!! The eventual EDS diagnosis made a lot of sense tbh, my skin is like paper sometimes, I swear
I'd tell ya to stick to wooden spoons but you'd prolly get a splinter from that.
The ribs and mac & cheese looks like the parent is saying my kid eats my food. 😂
You know that toddler stage where its like having a dog begging at the table anytime you sit and eat.
Good analogy!
I had a VERY strong "not like other girls" phase, luckily i got over it as i got older
Now i know im not even a girl in the first place and i can embrace my feminine side SO much more than when i was younger!

Gen X . Thank you!
I'm guessing apple spaghetti is a joke? She's making an apple pie.
someone doesn't know how spaghetti is made
I can see why someone might not get it if they haven't made an apple pie with a peeler like that before. It is rather specialized for when you need to peel a bunch of apples at once, and helps save time
Most people make single family amounts of apple pie and therefore don't need that kind of peeler (which is pretty wasteful, btw).
@@lethfuil My family gets a bunch of apples when they're in season, so we ended up having one to be able to help cook them up before they went bad. The peels were always tasty to snack on afterwards
@@lethfuil it can also be used for canning things like applesauce.

Hmmm. 🤔 🪨🪨 & 🪟🏘 🤨
"So accident prone they could trip on a chalk line" is such an ADHD description!
These back stories explain 2 of them, if you have the time & interest to read them, as i know jokes arent as funny when you need to explain them, but they do make/inspire even funnier future jokes & might be relatable stories:
1st family inside joke:
These both happened when my brother was around 7th grade & I was about 5th.
2nd inside joke, sometime within the next 6 months of the "dip" joke:
My brother & I where doing our homework at the dinning room table & from the kitchen TV, where our mom was making dinner, there was a TV news story about a breakout of ecoli & salmonella. 😂", to which which she answered, "if you want to know who ecoli is, you're going to have to go look in the mirror!"
Relation to Shaaba/Jamie's convo:
Since those instances/to this day, whenever ecoli/salmonella are heard/mentioned, my mom will ask me, "were you salmonella & was [brother's name] ecoli?" To which, in the same faux-offended tone as Shaaba insisted at the start of the ice tea girl post "I'm gas!", I will respond, "No, I'm ecoli!" Sometimes we are even overheard by those other than my brother & their looks of confusion only makes the inside joke even more funny!

Every time she says “I’m GAS” 😂😂😂
