I used the rubber lined kayak rivets to install these on my 2020 Compass. The rudder deployment lines on the right side can be an issue. I was able to reach in and hold the rudder line up and away from the work zone while I drilled the holes for the rivets. The trifold rivets pull in tight and are smooth on the inside of the bulkhead so no snag or wear issues there. The only screws I used were two half inch screws that I used on the pilot holes as they were so high inside that there was no conflict with the rudder line. These map pockets are nice and I'm glad I installed them.😎
hobie sells rubber rivets with brass inserts, if you re afraid of poking something with the screws, drill a 3/8" hole, insert rivet, insert stainless screw, as you tighten rubber expands forming an excellent watertight sturdy seal
he does give you a warning, the screws stick out into inside of hull and can catch the rudder line. today my rudder line broke while launching thru surf. it had been frayed from rubbing on a screw. i am going to use a short bolt and teflon lined nut to replace as i do like having the pockets.
Once Hobie finishes all these upgrade videos it will be clear they took a Compass and built an Outback. Still waiting for the seat upgrade video from Hobie.
