Hosea was the good angel on dutch’s shoulder and Micah was the bad one. When hosea died the balanced tipped and let Micah manipulate Dutch into madness
I feel that it's important to mention that there wasn't one singular event that drove Dutch mad; not to say that the death of Hosea didn't affect him --it very much did. But in reality, there are more things to consider when analyzing the decline of Dutch's mental state, such as the (heavily implied) brain trauma he sustained during the mission Urban Pleasures (I think) when the trolly they were in crashed into a wagon, or the time right before the start of the game where Dutch murders Heidi McCourt (which greatly implies that Dutch already suffers from psychopathic tendencies even without the presence of the added stress he experiences throughout the campaign). Rockstar was very exact with every aspect of RDR2; Dutch Van Der Linde, and his slow journey into insanity being a great example of this, giving the player a multitude of possibilities as to why Dutch becomes the monster he is in the first game. To put a bow atop my pointless ramblings, I spent too much time writing this.
part from 5:35 to 7:50 is the best part of this OST because it really ecompases the feeling of urgency, panic and helplessness that the entire gang probably felt as they were surrounded by dozens of Pinkerton agents in pretty cramped space, plus Dutch ordering them to shoot at everything that moves like a madman.
Morgan Smith wrong go watch the dialogue before you start banking the old American art Dutch says he doesn’t like it he was nervous and Hosea says it’s usually me that’s nervous
The guitar at around 10:06 reminds me of the guitar that plays in the background in Blackwater in RDR1. Possibly as a call back to the other job that went wrong there before RDR2 starts.
I love how at 5:35 the music kind of becomes this fight or flight kind of sound. It’s what the gang must have been thinking the whole time when bullets started flying.

This entire track is gold, so atmospheric. When Hosea was held up, I already knew what was going to happen even without spoilers, but boy was I not ready. The track just made me feel like the whole thing was a nightmare of heartache and bullets, like a chunk of my world got pulled and tossed on the curb and I could barely fight to survive, let alone protect the others or take revenge. Must be sort of what Arthur felt.
When we were running across the rooftops all I could think about was Hosea and then Lenny got shot and I... he didn’t even get a cutscene. He just died, got shot tossed to the side.
@@jakefrench3015 What's worse is that it isn't possible to save Lenny as his two killers are invincible to all weapons, even dynamite (I think) and they can only be killed after Lenny is. To quote Dutch: "OH GODDAMN THEM!"

The sense of dread while holding off all the Pinkertons while stuck in a bank after one of gang's founder is killed, when this was supposed to be the gang's ticket to leave peacefully. Also, in the mission on which you discover the trap Angelo did to you in the trolley, you can see Dutch having a hit in the head during the crash. It's especulated that's what made Dutch change, and, seeing how he talks literally in the next mission, it makes sense
Hosea was the only one on par with Dutch's genius. Not by intellect alone, but by wisdom and cunning. Hosea was the "something don't feel right" person. He was the one who simply felt what was a good idea and what was not. Before the mission, Hosea was constantly doubting Dutch because his gut feeling kept telling him that this heist wasn't a good idea, and it wasn't. But most importantly, Hosea was a man who knew Dutch and understood him. He was essentially the man who built the gang to become one with virtue and merit. The death of Hosea was the death of the gang as all knew it before. His death gave birth to a gang of violence, hatred and greed. 5:35 and the following few minutes is something special. It almost reminds me of the music that plays during the fire extinguisher scene from Irréversible. Just pure, unrelenting chaos and panic as the gang find themselves outnumbered and outgunned by the seemingly endless amount of Pinkerton agents surrounding the bank. I believe that in that moment, even Arthur was scared. A near impossible situation narrowly escaped by sheer luck, not skill. Brilliant.
I always figure a lot of the music has some leitmotif mischief going on, namely that it has these certain noises associated with the law and the city contrasting against the cowboy-y music... with a wild flute mixed into it all, it creates a very stressful sounding song that gives this huge vibe of a bunch of yeehaws in a place where there ain't no haws to yee.

One of the most chilling moments in the game, is hearing my second favorite character, John, panickly yell out “ABIGAIL?!” “WHAT IF THEY GOT ABIGAIL?!!”
for some people 5:35 theme encompasses the feeling of adrenaline, fear and anxiety but for me it was always about the shellshock and grief. A moment you realise all your dreams, hopes and actions were futile. All for nothing. You are dragged from the stairway to paradise to the depths of hell and damnation.
One reason i feel like this mission had Micah written all over it is because this theme sounds like the slowed down version of the mission where Arthur and Micah rob a stagecoach.
The first few minutes of this song sound like a corrupted version of the “Outlaws from the West” theme. Makes sense since both songs were made by the same composer.

Rockstar better make a callback and use this part or the whole ost for a prequel game to this when the gang do the blackwater heist and its starts when dutch kills the women on the ferry.
Holy shit yes
5:32 when you realise your sibling had just stolen your charger
Thats.. That's when it gets real...
5:40 when all hell rains fire
5:32 when the gang starts falling apart
Lenny was only 19 when he got blasted
Poor bastard he was a good kid milton is going to pay for this
3:21 love that part❤️
One of the most chilling moments in the game, is hearing my second favorite character, John, panickly yell out “ABIGAIL?!” “WHAT IF THEY GOT ABIGAIL?!!”
Uhhh I don't think he said that I think he said "Sh*t, Abigail!"
for some people 5:35 theme encompasses the feeling of adrenaline, fear and anxiety but for me it was always about the shellshock and grief. A moment you realise all your dreams, hopes and actions were futile. All for nothing. You are dragged from the stairway to paradise to the depths of hell and damnation.
One of the greatest "the shit has hit the fan" moments in gaming.
9:34 *Lenny he's...he's dead!*
"Noo!"
"GODDAMNIT!"
5:32
There's your deal, Dutch.
Hosea...
Hosea, 😭 go dang it kill those bastards! 😡
4:08 Maybe I'm imagining it, but does that quiet little electric guitar remind anyone of the final duel theme from Once Upon a Time in the West?
That soundtrack is sheer dread and i love it
When I first heard this theme I knew stuff was about to go down
5:35 mixture of violence panic and horror 😨.
"There's your deal, Dutch"
“This is worse than Blackwater!”
No other single player game comes close not even good of war
@Roy Gravelili. I'm Whit you
Agree
I never even heard of "Good of War"
True
The last of us and the witcher 3
One reason i feel like this mission had Micah written all over it is because this theme sounds like the slowed down version of the mission where Arthur and Micah rob a stagecoach.
Bro if they put this in a rage for one of trevors missions I would love that mission just because of the music
This wouldnt match to gta
Your videos are an audiovisual masterpiece! The music and visuals complement each other perfectly, creating a captivating experience."
this is the one of the songs that make me feel rage
The fact that Lenny was only 19 years old 😔
I fucking love 5:35 and 7:13 . Saint denis bank job and Arthur's last stand are the most emotionally wracking and taxing moments on the game
10:07 best part of the song
"This is it gentlemen, the last one"
Whenever you say that dutch, we lose more men than we get cash.
The first few minutes of this song sound like a corrupted version of the “Outlaws from the West” theme. Makes sense since both songs were made by the same composer.
4:07-love when the drums and symbols come in
I was completely shocked mid mission
I love it when the drums roll in at 4:10
My favorite mission in the whole game
3:38 G O O S E B U M P S
I love how this mission plays a strange somber tune if you die
Top 10 songs before disaster
5:35-7:50 is my favorite part
At 5:32, there is a scratch, at the same time it zooms on dutch's bewildered face. I believe this was the breaking point for Dutch, the crash of his mind.
5:40 🔥
Soo intense
By far my favorite sound in the game especially when you go into dead eye
metal af
DUTCH , THEY GOT LENNY!
The shootout music was spot on. After Milton killed Hosea, I didn't even focus. I just started rage shooting at everything.
This is one of my favorite missions in the game
