    Hi, The camera is mounted about 100' below the kite on a sliding box mount that I made. Its visible at 1:48. I tied a stopper to the kite sting at 100' and when it gets to the camera when Im letting out the line, the camera hooks onto it and starts going up into the air. Mounting it this far from the kite stabilizes the camera. Also, Im using a large and very stable delta wing kite.

    Very cool video! What was the area of the kite and weight of the GoPro? It didn't look as big as I was expecting. Good wind I suppose. I just put a Prism Delta to about 300 feet with an iPod nano yesterday near Phoenix. I plan to try some more next chance I get!

    I wanted to do something like this as a teen while flying kites so badly, but the technology did not exist for it back when! Cameras were too bulky.

      People have been using kites to lift cameras into the air for many decades. Large kites with sufficient wind will lift more weight. Someone took a photo from a kite of the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. And as you could imagine from that time period, the camera was extremely bulky and heavy.

    The camera was set to take a picture every 10 seconds. Then they were all edited together to playback like a movie

      Thank you for your quick answer, i am also trying to produce a time lap pic mix with video, but at lower height, I found a line that i can trust, Nylon twine no. 21 also called Lobster twine, white, 1000 feet per roll, 1 pound per roll, braided white, about 150 pounds strength..practical strength when stuck on branches, and camera attached…i guy pull hard to save his camera. i was wondering how you mounted the camera to the kite because i have tried this and the video was very shaky and blurry?

    • @outandabout100
      @outandabout100 7 років тому

      0ryan00 your video was shaky this could be too much wind. try in calm wind

    • @outandabout100
      @outandabout100 7 років тому

      0ryan00 if you use a gimmbal video will be steady and will not shake at all. See my videos
