Wonderful to see a video about innovation and adaptation of an old idea made better by modern equipment and materials. Our need to "see" the world from different angles, drives the creative process... I really appreciate this video! Thank YOU.
Beautiful photography. Lucky for the budding KAP enthusiast today that they don't have to be such tinkerers to get started. Most everything you need can be easily purchased pre-made with electronics installed.
Dave Thompson quaint but you can't use a drone in National Parks or here when Trump is visiting and it becomes a no-fly zone. It's really an effective way to circumvent no-drone laws!
@ creepyloner1979: Yea, right. Except for the fact that of course balloons WILL NOT work in wind (or be exactly as "unstable" as a kite would be then). Plus, just one single filling of helium for a balloon capable of lifting a SLR will cost you hundreds of dollars. If you have that kind of money, settling for a rc-helikopter would actually be much better. I like the idea of doing this with a kite - it has something poetic, aside of all its other advantages (low-tech and inexpensive).
id still say shark. but now that i look at it id say somthing smaller like a blue shark. but somthing else. im not good with shark names unless its near shark week
All the nay sayers. "You should use a hydrogen balloon." "to unstable" you don't get it. He likes photography, kites and building. So he built it! I say we'll done sir! You invisible it, you built it.
i would NEVER trust my dslr camera to something that plummets out of the sky the moment the wind changes. and not a single mention of balloons in the entire video? they mention pigeon-mounted cameras but not balloons, which work just like this guy's kite, except with less vibration and no need for wind.
@taxiuniversum if it's too windy for a tethered balloon, it's too windy for a kite. if it's not windy enough for a kite, even better for a balloon. enough helium to lift a dslr and balloon would actually cost well under $100, but to hell with helium. hydrogen is cheap and easy to produce and so is hot air.

one of the best videos i have seen today
I remember seeing this and thinking, "How cool!" Now I have a Phantom drone and this video seems quaint.

.. the silly putty switch is an awesome idea and very worthy of replacing my ice cube melting time switch. thanks
I have been building drones for 4 years..... but kites are the way to go. - vested interests are determined to see the end of personal drone usage...
what in the world is in the water at 1:00 ?
is it the Loch ness monster?!?!??!
very creative work..like it a lot..congratulation
can you make a kite that carries people
This is amazing.. :o
exactly at 1:02 pause it and you can see a shark. loks like a great white but i dunno how big it is
@zac856314 he explained in the video why he didnt do that

Also, very illegal in most states.
Just WoWW...

and P.S. - Sharks do "hover". Go see a great white in a shark tank. Watch how they barely move.
Its okay, i forgive your ignorance.
lol
Camera kite? Yeah ok! Thats a gay liberal method!
