Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer-Home Different times of year offer different opportunities for Cheetah. Hunting Wildebeest calves is a fleeting opportunity that they must take advantage of.
Nature documentary series narrated by Sir David Attenborough. A look at predator and prey strategies in the open arenas of desert and grassland.
The open arenas of grassland and desert make up half of all land on our planet. In these exposed habitats, predators like cheetahs, bald eagles and lions can usually see their prey. But it works both ways: their prey can see them too. With nothing but open vistas, the element of surprise is hard-won, and predators must make their own opportunities. This episode explores the strategies of predator and prey in the open arena.

rip in peace baby horse thingy
Wildebeest. It's in the description and the narrator says it at least once.
It's a wildebeest
+LiamLuis96 aww that's adorable.
LiamLuis96 rip mean Rest In Peace so you don't need to say rip in peace and you are an Idot btw
thats a gnu
"Mommy! Wait for me!!!"
"Sorry, my child. It's everyone for themselves now."
The funny thing is that an adult Wildebeest could easily just chase the cheetah off but the mother just ditches the child anyway.
"The mothers block her path. But in a flat out chase, nothing can outrun a cheetah." GOOSEBUMPS.
Same here
Praise mother instead!
There animals able to outrun a cheetah

Leon gamerboy by endurance but not speed
I have loved cheetahs my entire life. Every cell of their body is evolved to be about speed. Short bursts of incredible speed. They are magnificent, beautiful creatures.
this didnt seem like a short burst. This one minute of run is like a mile at 60mph..
Такой же хищник! 🤮
Why do these videos always end too early?
It is. I still want to fucking see it.
+FoxMcWeezer Cheetah died. Sadly.
+FoxMcWeezer i dont want to watch it. bunch of ugly hyenas will steal from cheetah while cheetah could do nothing other than staring
Yea. Cheetah's have a very high hunting success rate, so its not worth taking a bite from a group of worthless hyenas.
God forbid those working on it for your entertainment get paid.

live in kenya and when I was 5 years old my mother would tell me stories about lions and cheatah. from the stories I gathered how I could defend myself from lions by climbing trees but had nightmares on how the hell I could defend myself against cheatah. fastest on land and can climb trees. happy days though
Cheetahs are great at tight turns. Endurence is the key. That said cheetahs aren't that strong.
+TheHumbled Dig a hole?
Cheetahs can't climb trees, however leopards can
+crazy7chameleon actually female lions and cheetahs can climb tree, but not well

This footage was perfect, but it wouldnt have been without David Attenborough. I cant imagine I will enjoy nature documentaries as much when he's gone.
Maybe I'm the only one, but I love that the video is in slow motion. It shows the mechanics.
Maybe it's just for me, but for me, when you're talking about get rock bands of the twentieth century, you've got to include the Beatles

lol
You wouldn't see shit at full speed. There are thousand of full speed footage on UA-cam tho
@@kingphil4073 Agree, cheetahs are so fast, the cameramen can't keep up with filming them, they're just a blur. And you can't see the beauty of their legs and spine moving. Just look at the background moving beside them to appreciate the speed.

I definitely can. I hate when their food gets taken, but they can rebound faster than anyone!
Like any record holding animal, Cheetahs are always a beauty to see in action.
Cheetahs are so unlike any other big cat. They're miracles of evolution.
They were designed perfectly by God to survive.

Yep. For this specific clip and others like it, other nature shows pale incomparison.
Cheetahs are the true inspiration: speed, focus, strength, and ferocity
They're missing out on strength and ferocity when compared to other big cats though

What it called
When I saw this scene in the latest episode, I started tearing up in utter respect for nature and pride in British industry which produced this masterpiece of nature, film, commentary and music collaborating beautifully.
Yes BBC are the best..
I completely agree, this documentary was a masterpice.
it seems like older genarations had respect for the magic well thought out hard work produced now you just have look at the ppl who hold the great offices of state to see where everything is heading everybody got their fingers crossed for the miracles of technology to do the work. but most of the world is still as wild as the clip we just watched.
The nature documentaries are the only good thing about BBC.

why was this so epic? with the dramatic music and whatnot.
I mean this is some of the best footage ever recorded of the fastest land animal on the planet hunting. It’s really amazing stuff and worth some glorification.
Beautiful footage. 0:49 when the mothers come in between, so cinematic.
Our sense of drama is directly derived from when we were once part of the predator-prey dynamic. So it makes sense that these things feel cinematic to us since our very concept of conflict comes from when we were once hunting or being chased ourselves 😂
@@artloverivy It didn't used to last long when we were being chased

This is breathtaking
A top speed cheetah is a beautiful, majestic site to see. And David Attenborough's voice is absolutely amazing in tandem with the footage and intense, fast paced music.
That is a high performance predator, beautiful.
Its crazy because a full grown wilder beast can fuck up a cheetah or a lion one on one. But they almost never fight back, even in groups.
Jesus, this footage is breathtaking.
My favourite animal. I genuinely and deeply their admire speed, it’s so satisfying to watch.
This is about how accurately my parents care about me
its viscious, but its poetic to say 'in a flat out run, nothing can out run a cheetah', somethings are born that way

*It's a majestic display of animal fight prowess when horses engage in their territorial tussles*
That's why Cheetah are called Cheetah. They trip up their prey.
Except they go 70mph
SevenLeggedMoose The third 75
Don't be stupid seven. No animal runs 70 miles an hour. It was a mistake made by early biologist or zoologists using stopwatches.
Jack Leo Jack the Blackbuck was also said to be the 2nd fastest after the Cheetah but these Greyhounds shows who's faster. m.ua-cam.com/video/D_Cl8oNKjwk/v-deo.html
+Borzoi Coursing Greyhounds barely hit 72km/h. It's really not that hard to see that an animal that struggles to catch a nimble yet rather slow rabbit will never beat an animal which catches the 2nd fastest, arguably the most nimble animal in the world, the springbok. Even in a flat out straight chase.
Kikuyu Kiiru Greyhounds run 60 but slow down to 40. They catch Blackbuck which runs 50 and so it says alot about Greyhound speed. Hares are caught regularly at coursing meets.
that aerial shot is amazing 0:35
Has anyone ever tried attaching a GoPro to a cheetah's head?? Now that would be award winning television!
1:55 incredible how he just tripped him... so smart
1:12 What a glorious shot. You can see every little decision, and every little movement each animal is making during their interaction. Fantastic filmmaking.
