  • Gluten Ataxia
Ataxia is a condition that causes poor muscle control and clumsy voluntary movements. Symptoms include difficulty with walking, balance, hand coordination, speech, swallowing and eye movements.
Did you know that gluten sensitivity can cause ataxia?
Studies have found that cerebellar ataxia and peripheral neuropathy are the most common neurological manifestations of gluten-related disorders. A gluten-related disorder is any condition that is triggered by eating gluten and includes both intestinal and extraintestinal manifestations.
Gluten ataxia should be tested and considered in the diagnosis of all patients with ataxia.
Here are a few studies on gluten ataxia:

    I stand before you.
Last January I had sudden double vision, eyes went cross eyed, and after decades of multitude of strange body symptoms. Researched it myself, and... Cut wheat barley rye out and am vastly improving. Looking back since born, always had it!... Explains everything!

I’ve had gluten ataxia for seven years, since my third child was born. Can you test for antibodies towards the cerebellum?

How long would it take to see improvement from cutting out gluten

Let me point out one earlyish symptom - over sweating, sweating more than you should be on slight exertion. That really went worse around the 40 years of age mark. I am now 61. Btw, am slim build.

If I tested positive for transglutaminase 6 antibodies one year ago, is it likely I still am intolerant to gluten? Second question, do you have to be eating gluten in order for this test to be accurate? I cannot seem to find the answer to this question.

I'm not a Doctor, but they told me you had to be eating gluten through the entire testing process. Even as they were wheeling me in for the endoscopy they asked if I had been eating gluten. I asked if I should not have, and they said no, you definitely should be eating it or you can get a false negative. But ask your doctor to be sure.
