It's actually kinda surprising. When The Empress catches you, she seems more disappointed in you than angry. More upset over your betrayal than anything.
It seems she is more dissapointed in herself since her quote "its rare that i make a bad buisness decision" or something similar pretty much saying she doesn't make mistakes often and she was upset that she did. Its not likely she saw so much potential in hat kid since she had hardly just joined before stealing. Also i think the empress doesn't really get that mad she is good at keeping her cool

The 1st level of the game is Mafia Town and it only goes darker from there. The ability of GfB to do all these things without ever stopping being kid friendly deserves way more attention than what it gets.
To retort how FRIGHTENING The Empress is: Keep in mind what Hat Kid went through from first landing on the planet, to getting her soul taken from her, to her final battle with Mustache Girl. She has fought past all of those before her until now. Now? All she can do is *run* before the Empress can get to her. You cant fight her one on one, she WILL instantly kill you. There's just no chance to win, all Hat Kid can do is try to escape and get the hell off the planet and back to her ship before the Empress catches her. Cause even Snatcher and Mustache Girl had their morals. Not The Empress.

The way they were able to make a Neo Japanese style world and music that all feel like they belong in the Hat In Time universe is astounding to me. Can't wait to get to explore this new area.

Am I the only one who feels bad for Empress? ...She's a crime lord in a planet full of never-do-wells. A small unloved kitten who fought her way to the top in a cutthroat world, and only wanted Hat Kid to be her loyal minion, protégé, and successor, to fill the void. She had a soft spot for the little adventurer. And they steal back their Time Pieces as soon as her backs turned. The look of hurt on her face as vows to never let Hat Kid escape for this betrayal of trust. Empress promises to track her down after this quest. She never had a real kitten of her own, yet she knows a mother's pain, if their child abandons them.
She claimed hat kid's possesions as her own, thus holding her hostage on an alien planet with no fuel, she possesed as "OMG JEWELS", hat kid, nor do i, have no reason to sympathise her!

Then, she does contracts for Snatcher to earn her soul back, which includes assist in suicide, trespassing, more structural damage, murder on various planes of existence, and lack of qualification for postal work, but that last one can be an exception due to the employment crisis of the Subcon Forest. Am I the only one who feels bad for Empress? ...She's a crime lord in a planet full of never-do-wells. A small unloved kitten who fought her way to the top in a cutthroat world, and only wanted Hat Kid to be her loyal minion, protégé, and successor, to fill the void. She had a soft spot for the little adventurer. And they steal back their Time Pieces as soon as her backs turned. The look of hurt on her face as vows to never let Hat Kid escape for this betrayal of trust. Empress promises to track her down after this quest. She never had a real kitten of her own, yet she knows a mother's pain, if their child abandons them.

Such a memorable theme. It amazes me what music comes out of indie games.
First, Hat Kid kills the mafia leader, and then technically helps them preventing the island from drowning in lava.
Then, she helps two bird-like creatures film various films, which may have involved some B&E, fake identification, major structural damage, even MORE B&E, and the brutal murder of whoever won.
Then, she does contracts for Snatcher to earn her soul back, which includes assist in suicide, trespassing, more structural damage, murder on various planes of existence, and lack of qualification for postal work, but that last one can be an exception due to the employment crisis of the Subcon Forest.
And now, she’s a furry yakuza gangster.

This was such an incredible finale, and the best song on the soundtrack. I only wish the Nyakuza leader fired faster rockets, that was super easy to dodge. Was probably the easiest Metro level even if it was all epic and cinematic.

Well, on the twitter page, they deconfirmed Hat Kid for smash by saying "God, we want her in Smash so bad but it ain't working" or something like that I don't remember, but they also deconfirmed the Switch port awhile ago and now look. Confirmed to release this spring.
