  • How to install the Artillian modular grapple system on an older John Deere 755 Compact Tractor. I also installed a diverter valve kit on my 755 compact tractor to run the front auxiliary hydraulics for the grapple system. ‪@Artillian‬

    Can't wait for some field testing of this. I borrowed a grapple for my skid steer when we had a tornado knock a bunch of trees down. I doubt I would've made it through the cleanup without it, grapples are a major game changer!

    Great job Neil! Almost made me cry since getting rid of my 430, but I needed a bigger tractor, so it didn't last long. I don't know if you use them enough, but they make a zip tie gun that gets them really tight. $20 Harbor Freight. I was clenched when you went for the big log, maybe a bit more weight on the back, but the 755 really handled it! My sister lives across the way and she had a walnut tree blow down and we cut it up. I brought pieces of the trunk about the same size in 10' lengths to my place with my TYM T 264, but I had a 700lb tiller on the back. I hope you get lots of "safe" use with the grapple! Oh I forgot. Loctite makes more products than you can imagine and they all work!

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  2 роки тому

      Yeah I knew that that log was going to be overkill but I just couldn't resist it was right there ripe for the picking 😋
      I use these tractors all the time and I still get surprised at what they can accomplish given enough time and patience. I'm really looking forward to enjoying it this fall and winter.

    Congratulations Neil!
    That is a perfect set up for wood and brush cleanup. You’re gonna love it.
    I think I appreciate my grapple more for brush than for wood. The part of wood harvesting that I dislike the most is limbing, dragging and stacking the limbs. Especially when working in a brushy, briar infested forest floor.
    With my grapple I can make a few passes where the tree is gonna fall to clear the underbrush. That makes limbing a bit more pleasant. Then, I cut the tree into logs and pluck them out with the grapple. Gathering the limbs and piling them is just a couple of quick swipes with the grapple.
    All of a sudden, the most distasteful part of woodcutting becomes fun… almost!
    Another brush challenge is the wild roses, buck brush, blackberries and such that grow everyplace that light hits the forest floor. I use to brush hog it. That just makes it mad. It spreads wider and grows back thicker.
    Having the grapple lets me deal with it at root level… where it acts as if it got a lobotomy… and loses all will to survive.
    That Artillian grapple is a beast. Your compact 755 is on the lower limit of tractors that can safely handle it. Nonetheless, it looks like you can get a lot done with it.
    My BX23s is a sub-compact. It can’t handle a grapple that heavy. Land Pride (owned by Kubota) makes a brush grapple that is sized specifically for it. It isn’t as heavy duty as the Artillian but then again, the tractor isn’t as massive either. I suppose it’s like that old saying… ‘different saddles for different horses.”
    Just one piece of advice… make sure your front tires are full of air… that grapple puts all of the weight on them. I’ve heard that a guy can ruin a low tire in just a single trip… but I’ve chosen to forget where I heard it!!!
    Again, I’m happy for you and look forward to see you learning about it as you find it’s capabilities and limits!

    • @digdrivediy
      @digdrivediy  2 роки тому +1

      You are certainly right that this tractor is on a smaller side for this grapple. I was really worried about that but I am tickled with the initial testing and findings.
      I like your methodology for how to go about using it too. We've got a couple projects in mind where we're going to give the grapple a real life test and see how the 'ole girl handles it. I know from running my brother-in-law's 1025 with grapple how handy it can be, but his is a little bit different style and I think this one maybe even more useful.
      Now I'm headed out to check the air in those front tires because when you know what, I did forget to check them!!! Thanks for the reminder!

      The forks have worked for me up until now as well. I'm hoping with this I can use it to do a little more cutting on my own by holding the logs up and being able to pinch them so they don't tip off the forks. And I want to be able to move my firewood from the slab to my wood splitter location. So we'll see how things go.

      Yes, I agree that that will be my first point of weight removal. I was really worried about the weight on this machine, but from what I've tested so far, I think I'll still be able to do a lot of work with it, even with a limitation that may not affect the bigger tractors.

    Being able to lift those big logs up with your new grapple will help keep your saw sharp and will prevent them from pinching the bar. I spend as much time sharpening my saw while cutting up firewood than I do actually busting it.

    But the loader arms
    Might very well NOT be.
    I've seen two or three small tractor videos explaining how loader arms were tweaked out of whack by lifting up a tree root on one side but not the other or
    Getting a great big log up with very un even weight distribution.

      @digdrivediy  2 роки тому

      You can add a power beyond kit to these tractors. Captain Kleeman did it to his, but for me this seemed like a logical choice as the curl and pinch of the grapple work in conjunction with each other. But I would really like to have that third spool for a rear implement too!
