Ernest Tubb was one of his influences Hank said that but Hank out did Ernest on EVERYTHING... I won't be drawn into an online debate Hank still outsales Jimmie Rogers Bob Wills AND Tubb combined!
Hank Sr. will tear your heart out. Try "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry." He also wrote "I Saw the Light." Classic country, such a tragic figure, died so young.
I saw the light is 1 of my favorite hymnals, Hank Williams wrote this song too! Love it! If you haven't seen the movie "I Saw The Light", it's a movie based on his life, up till the day that he died, it's a great movie, I think I've watched it at least 50+ times, if you haven't seen it before, it's a must see, in my opinion!
One of the great legends & pioneers of early country music from the 40's-50's. He had a lot of great songs including "Move It On Over", "Lovesick Blues", "Your Cheatin' Heart", "Hey, Good Lookin'", "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" etc. On New Year's Day 1953, he suffered from heart failure & died suddenly at the age of 29. He had a short career but left a great legacy of music.
Actually he was clean & sober at the time of his death. Autopsy results showed he died of a heart attack due to his prior abuse of alcohol, morphine & chlor hydrates which wrecked havoc on his heart . The combination just weakened his heart so much & that led to the heart attack.
Hank Williams, Sr. known as the Hillybilly Shakespeare. Shawn and Mel, this is a rabbit hole you need to explore. Also, he has an album of songs under the name of Luke the Drifter. So many heartfelt songs on there that are also worth exploring.
Hank Williams had a lot of great stuff. Hey Good Lookin, Cold, Cold Heart, Move It On Over, Lovesick Blues, I Saw The Light, Jambalaya several others. If you are going down the Country rabbit hole, he's probably the place to start.
Love watching you two react to some of the greats of Country Music. You know what happens when you play a country record backwards? You get your girl back, your dog back, your truck back, and your job back. Most country music tells a story, with a lot of heartache.
Hank Senior is the King of country music , he’s before our time yet timeless ,So Lonesome I could Cry I agree should be next . Love smiles and good vibes 🤗❤️🙂
When he first went to meet a producer the guy didn't think Hank wrote his own songs. So he told him to write a song about seeing an ex walking by him on the street, while the producer took Ms. Audrey (Hank's wife) to lunch. When they got back & producer opened the door there sat Hank in the producers chair & feet on desk & this is what came out of Hank. Listen to "I can't help it if I still in Love with you"

Country legend. Such a shame he drank himself to death. Incredible how timeless his music is and will forever live on. The good die young is true. Check out “Cold Cold Heart”
Now you need to listen to Hank Williams, Jr. "Family Tradition". Sr. died when Jr. was three years old. At the age of eight, his mother pushed him to perform and the country music establishment tried to turn him into his father. When he later rebelled (after nearly killing himself) his doctor told him to tell them to go to hell and sing his own music, they black balled him. He showed them in 1982 when he had nine albums on the charts. He is still performing and has a great album called The Three Hanks. He and his son, Hank III, singing together to Sr.'s songs.

The King of Country - Hank Williams! Imagine if he had lived to be 76 and how many more hits he would have produced. There is a unique story behind this song. Hank and his drifting cowboys only ran through the song once during the recording. Hank said that was perfect, let's go home, boys. It was one of the last songs recorded by Hank and I don't believe he sang it in concert or with his drifting cowboys. After Hank died, a DJ accidentally played the wrong side of the record (Your Cheatin Heart). Many folks loved it and requested it to be played again and again. It became a hit and Hank never got to see it hit the top of the charts for about 6 weeks.
This song was released after Hank’s death at age 29. There was no rehearsal, Hank went into the studio and showed his band the new song he wrote. He told Don Helms to give him that awesome intro you can hear on the steal guitar. Hank sang the song and when finished he told them that it was good enough and he left the studio after only one recording of your cheating heart. His band never seen Hank alive again. Hanks big hit on the radio when he died was “ “Ill never get out of this World Alive.”
