I tried a 48-hour experiment of using Edge instead of Chrome as my primary browser and have not gone back to Chrome since then. Six months in and I am still on it. The performance upgrades are serious. RAM and CPU usage is down and the battery gets a real boost. The best part is the browser history, extensions all remained the same.

Your first point is actually what concerns me most about the egde browser: Privacy. I just think that Edge is not doing the best job for protecting my data and I also dont trust Microsoft to not use my Data, because they already did in other cases where said they wouldnt. All of the features you pointed out are available on other browsers with add-ons, so the only thing that could disturb me is privacy and this is the main reason im using firefox instead of one of the chromium derivates.

I use Edge and highly recommend it to everyone. I use it on my android phone and ipad too, primarily due to the security features. I hardly see any ads anywhere now. Edge is better in terms of speed and ram. The moment I used Chrome (before I uninstalled it), I could hear the pc or laptop fan working hard to function. Other thing is if you're a Office 365 user, then you surely would enjoy the integration of Edge along with its peer apps. You can add stuffs to your one note.
I only wish that MS gives an option for using the address bar along with Cortana. If the apps on all platforms have this feature, then the Office 365 users can enjoy a seemless ecosystem. I cannot add tasks on To Do using the Google Assistant, but if this comes out, I'll disable Google Assistant completely.

Lastly, another one of my favorite things about Edge, the Options/Settings. They allow you to really customize the browser, how it searches, what can track you, themes and more. You can even sign into Edge with your regular Microsoft profile and your school/work profile (for 365) and the browser will auto switch profiles to match the page. Love Edge Dev and Windows 11!

MS Edge starts off looking clean and cool - just like Chrome, but Edge has inherited is founder's desire to control everyone in the world. After trying it on and off alongside Chrome for a few months and being reasonably pleased, following the last update, 111.0.1661.41, I am utterly infuriated by MS's constant and irremovable insistence that I must have it's flashing and visually disturbing MSN news feed on every new tab I open - either that or I can't have the new tab 'speed dial' links displayed. Yes I've tried following every piece of help I can find on the web - I simply don't get the options when I choose a custom page layout. This is driving me crazy - just like almost every release of almost every other piece of MS software I've ever used.

Leila Gharani, thanks for the Edge review. I have enjoyed a few of your videos on Excel, One Note, and PowerPoint. Being a Mac user, Edge version for Mac is horrible. Our IT department at my company suggest not to use Edge on our Windows machines out of the many browsers we can use on our PCs (Chrome, Safari, and Firefox). When it comes to speed test, my preferred default browser, of course, Safari on the M1 Mac easily best Chrome and Edge. I understand optimization of hardware and OS plays a big factor. I also think the verdict is still out when it comes to Edge on privacy and security vulnerabilities. However, Edge is finally catching up to Chrome In the extension department, like other Microsoft products becoming too over-bloated with excellent features but rarely used. I think you were 100% correct; Chrome will continue to dominate. Keep up The very helpful and excellent thorough reviews.

On Android your battery will last twice as long if you reinstall it with an AOSP-base ROM like Lineage OS but don't install the Google Apps. The Google Services layer installed by GApps (that you cannot uninstall once it on, you have to rebuild from scratch) is the main application constantly phoning home to Google and stealing all of your data - that is one of biggest causes of battery drain.
Windows 10 is not allowed in my home - it has far too much telemety and it's entire interface is rubbish anyway.

Microsoft Edge has improved a lot since they switched to the Chromium engine. It may use the same engine as Chrome but Microsoft made sure it isn't just a Chrome reskin, adding a lot of useful features that Chrome doesn't have. While I am not too keen on vertical tabs myself, I see why some people could find them really useful.
Also, Chrome has an annoying feature where muting one tab mutes all tabs which are connected to the same site. For example, if you have multiple livestreams open and want to leave some running in the background while you watch one of them, you can't mute all of the tabs except one because all the tabs are connected to the same site (UA-cam, Twitch or whatever) and muting one of the tabs mutes all of the tabs. Firefox deals with muted tabs in a much more logical and less frustrating way, allowing you to mute a single tab even if multiple tabs are connected to the same site. Although it is based on Chromium, Edge opts to follow Firefox's more logical way of doing things which is much better.
However, Firefox is still my favourite browser. Chrome and Edge both lack a menu bar, Firefox is unquestionably more private than both of them with built in tracking protection which is turned on by default, and Firefox is the only browser with a somewhat significant browser share that doesn't use the Chromium engine. If Firefox dies, Google will basically have a monopoly on browser engines (except for on Mac where people can use Safari.) This is bad for everyone, no matter what browser they use, because a lack of competition means Google don't need to keep adding new features and making Chromium based browsers faster. After all, there would literally be no popular alternative to them. Firefox has made some questionable design changes recently, and I hate the new look. But it still has a bunch of features which imo put it ahead of the competition.
If Firefox dies, due to web developers no longer supporting it or Mozilla running out of funding and developers leaving, I might consider using Edge rather than Chrome. This is actually a very real possibility in the next few years, with Firefox's decreasing share of the market and reliance on Google paying Mozilla to make them the default browser. Microsoft would have to win my trust back first. I currently don't trust Microsoft Edge with my bookmarks. A few years ago, before Edge switched to Chromium, I imported my bookmarks and tried it out for a bit. After a few days, Edge forgot some of my bookmarks for some reason. I know it's using a different engine now but I still don't trust Edge. Also, the current UI for Edge is really ugly imo. Although perhaps they will change Edge's UI on Windows 10 alongside the changes they have planned for its UI on Windows 11.

There are different reasons why Google Chrome has 2/3rds or more of the internet browser marketshare and Edge has less than 9%.
First, Chrome is faster for most users.
Two, Edge is built for Microsoft to horde user data and bandwidth, which may often cause bottlenecking when opening web pages.
Although Microsoft advertises that Edge is a chromium based browser, they may not advertise that it is still integrated with legacy that makes it slower for most people except for a few that may need legacy.
Third, Edge uses more system resources and gives Microsoft, bloatware, apps and programs that may be running in the background and when users are web browsing.
Fourth, A high-end Lenovo laptop using Edge has slower web browsing than a low-end Chromebook using Google Chrome.
Fifth, for most users the overall user experience with Edge is Microsoft hype whereas Google Chrome is really better.
Finally, many Microsoft Windows users really wanted to like and use Edge, but found the overall experience with Google Chrome better without knowing all the reasons why.
Don't forget the Anti-trust lawsuit between Microsoft and Netscape browser war where Microsoft tied Internet Explorer into their OS to gain access to users' data.
This is still Microsoft's business model, but over the years they have explored new ways to gain access to users data, bandwidth, ram, hard drive, programs, apps, settings and more.
They have been offering new features in exchange for users data for years.

I do Live Streaming on Twitch as a DJ. Sometimes while Streaming, PUPs have shut down my computer in the middle of a show. This happens for years with me until I discovered PUPs. The main reason for viewing this topic was why IE had been so bad for many many years and why there were two MS browsers built-in.
The 2nd reason was looking for a reliable backup browser after Chrome.
(This year I started using Edge for one big usage. Edge browsers could recover and memorize placements all closed windows with only one Tab after shut down or restart. More importantly Edge remembered sequences of advancing or backward to a series of websites which I pre-set or was accustomed to. Originally I were using FireFox, also as a backup browser, until logging in as a "Limited User" in which FF lost this capability.)
Even though this video might not be enough to make me switch, you actually familiarized myself with "Edge" or introduced indeed.
Even I shall switch to Edge one day, I'll just make Chrome a backup browser.

Plus, Microsoft keeps trying to force all searches to Bing, and I don't like Bing. I'm not just talking about in Edge, most Windows search features use Bing and don't let you choose another option. So, until there is a "killer feature", I'll continue to refuse to use Edge except where forced to do so...simply because MS keeps trying to coerce me to use Edge and Bing no matter how many preferences I set or how many times I answer that I DON'T want Edge to be my default browser. When MS starts honoring my choices, then, and only then, will I even consider using it.

Microsoft is still primarily a software company. Their goal is to be the default option in the corporate world. Having ineffective privacy options can jeopardize their reputation among businesses.

Great video. I'm glad that I now know of some of the advanced features that Edge offers, and the steps to follow to use them. Nice job. BTW, I have been using Chrome for a while and I get bombarded with adverts every time I'm trying to look at anything.

For me the issue moving to Edge is that I use an Android phone and whatever I do in Chrome in Windows (eg. search history, bookmark, etc) is synched in my Google account thus in my Android phone, and vice-versa. Apart from that, would be brilliant using Edge only as most links in apps in windows will natively open Edge (eg. Twitter links, Windows widgets links, etc), not to mention the "better performance". Sleeping tabs is very interesting though! Thanks for the video!

You can add your MS account to the Edge in your phone. Synchronization works. I tried open the web page in my pc and then it appears in the Edge history in my phone.

I switched to edge when the chromium version was released. After that I fall in love with it.
I recommended it to many of my friends who were at that point using Chrome. Now all of them are using edge.

Some people doesn't understood that when Chrome take more RAM is not a bad think. If your computer need RAM, he will get that.
I usually use about 15-30 tabs so I need to have more RAM taken when i need all tab remain active. Especially if I had some video open , I want to easily switch between tabs and doesn't need to re-download videos and pages (stored in RAM).
Feature Multitasking seems wired to me. If you had many open programs (6-10) this will add another tile to the task switcher. But if you use only 2-3 programs and

I have also always admired Edge; I used to hate it after they ditched Edge Legacy and made it Chromium, but then I realised how awesome it was. Chrome began to look bland after Edge! (Chrome is a fine browser too though, but edge is 20% cooler)
