Thought I'd adress one question here since so many are asking/commenting about it, and that is regarding the "I'm only one girl" line. I think that what is written in the lyrics are final. I am only singing the lyrics like I am reading a book. I personally feel it would be disrespectful to change it since we all know the character that these words are written by. If I changed the girl part it would no longer be that persons lyrics I am conveying. This is how I feel about it anyways! :)

To be honest, that is fine. We don't care about that "I'm only one girl" portion of the lyrics. Because for one, you are portraying how you feel with your voice within the song itself and its the originality that counts and I respect that.

I thought about that the first time I listened to it. I ultimately came to a similar conclusion. It's why you don't see women artists who cover songs about men eyeing that special gal change the respective pronouns. The music was built to fit the words, and the words are meant to fit the music. And you can't reasonably change the lyrics without turning a cover into something not a cover.
The only regret I have after playing Nier: Automata is that I'll never be able to play it for the first time again.

for nier: automata?, the pc release was one week after the console release, if you meant the other nier parts, they won't get a port
maybe one day the original nier will be ported

I have two regrets:
First, doing like EVERY mission I could find because I didn't know chapter select was going to be a thing. So I was super overleveled for 90% of the game and it killed some of the tension.
Second, 9S's hacking.... I love the guy, his story's awesome, but seriously, fuck everything about having to play that minigame because having to rely on it just sucks. It's a cool idea, but MAN is it not nearly as fun and engaging as it should be.

I didn’t anticipate getting so emotionally attached to the story. I just did my second A - E play through and I still get choked up about how beautiful it was to me.
Also, I did an A - E of NieR Replicant and ending C D and E were fantastic. The game wasn’t as engaging to me as Automata, but it was worth every second to experience it.

It’s just my personal interpretation, and I like it.
Most emotional songs I think can be conveyed in a more agressive/angry manner as people handle sad situations differently. That's how I see it anyways :)

in my personal experience, sad songs are so hard to convey because of how hurt someone truly has to be to do it. I wouldn't ever downplay a song, but to get that tear-jerking sadness... it ain't easy.

After playing all of Yoko Taro's games i've been filled with a sense of regret and sadness because i will never be able to witness them for the first time again, sure some of them are a bit rough but they always make me feel an explosion of emotions that i rarely feel anymore. i sincerely hope that Yoko continues making video games because they are some of the best games i've ever played in terms of atmosphere, soundtrack, and story.

Actually the sound director is a guy named Keiichi Okabe. He wrote the song and composed it as well. The musicians playing it are just bringing it to life, which is talented in its own right. But in this case Mr. Okabe did make a better piece than most Popular bands now days.

I think the song is about a person looking for purpose in life and a place to belong to in the world, regardless of gender. But if anyone wants to have a male version of this song I think "man" would work better than "boy".

Yeah, I'm torn. I consider Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Persona 5 better *games,* but Nier Automata is hands down the best *experience* in gaming this year. (And quite possibly the best in the history of the medium.) Ending E in particular is downright magical - nothing in any other video game has ever affected me the way that moment did.
Totally agree. P5 might be my game of the year, but I foresee Nier having such a special place in my gamer heart for....well, forever hahahah.

Of course. And I was really happy about that, too coz Undertale is a fucking amazing game that I feared would be totally overlooked. But thankfully it wasn't! I just felt the same way with Automata. I was getting more and more surprised by the number of people who were touched by it and really getting into it as well.

When I first finished Nier: Automata, I was reeling from the sheer emotional roller coaster I had just gotten off of. So many deep elements in story telling, the emotions I felt for characters that I somehow knew (spoilers) were on a one way trip, and the music score of the whole experience was something I hadn't felt for years. When I got to the final credits and this song was playing as I was shooting down team members names, it felt like I was putting down an old friend to rest. The vocals, slowly building up with English, French, Deutsch, Japanese etc, to a tear flowing crescendo nearly sent me to bawling in my chair, that whole design was absolutely beautiful and PERFECTLY executed. Not since my first time beating Mass Effect (the first game) and hitting the whole ending sequence, the credits and the ending song brought me to tears, it was so awesome!
You sir, with your astounding musical talent and sick ass hell vocals, brought those same emotions back after a nearly a year! I salute you! ; w ; 7

I know this is old, but the music changes between 3 versions: English, Japanese, and Chaos, language created by Emi Evans, who made this song and almost all other from Nier and Nier Automata, she made the language for Song Of the Ancients originally from Nier then a remake to Automata. The language is an actual language with meaning made from a mix of French, Deutsch, Japanese and others. She's an amazing composer, singer( she's the one who sings in Chaos language in the songs) etc.
Why is German the one language that people in this comment chain are writing in itself? You didn't say Français or Nihongo...

The original gave me goosebumps from the powerful and beautiful, yet hopeless (with the little bit of hope that it shines) from the song. This one gives me goosebumps like I'm fighting a powerful boss with only a butter knife. Same song, different goosebumps.
