Trust me on this. Get a Lentech manual valve body. It will shift automatically when placed in the OD position, but will manually shift if you start out in 1st and shift up through. It makes the car totally fun! You can manually shift it, she can just put it in OD and cruise. Glad to see you wearing your seatbelt.
Heck yea! When I was younger, I stopped to look at every fox and if it was an auto, I just walked away..... today, I'd look at it harder... 😆
A transgo 5500 rpm governor with the shift kit would spread out those shift points more. Made a nice difference in my 91' gt aod vert with 3.73 gears. No more short shifting into 3rd in the middle of turns and bogging the car down.
Throw a converter in it. When I bought my car it had an AOD with GT40 top end, no cam. It did have a 2800 converter and it wasn't horrendous from a dig compared to a 5 speed version. Not too aggressive to drive either
You need to learn the Aod shuffle. Put the car in first and lightly engine brake. Release at the right time and when it gets to the rpm you want slap it into Drive. Once it hits second throw it back into first. It will stay in second til you go back to drive, then it will hit third. Major difference. Did you change the ECU. The auto ecu increases timing down low for launch. I can hit 60 in first gear and beat my buddies t5. I just have a B cam, gears, and full exhaust. I beat him every time. Driver mod. The Aods biggest problem is it go's instantly to third from second and falls on its face. AOD shuffle avoids that. Its still slow but thats how you get the best out of it. Old guy I knew taught me this in my Mark 7. He had a 11 second AOD mark 7. How he raced it. He had a 347 and turbo. Car was so cool.
Yep. AOD is the way to go if you drag race. A strong engine & the right stall converter & you'll dust equally fast cars with T5's all day long.
Been doing the AOD shuffle since the early 90's, this is a cruiser only
I pulled that stunt a lot with my 88 GT, until during a road race I accidentally downshifted to 1st at 50mph.... Needless to say that was the beginning of the end for that tranny.

I prefer the auto life myself. I swapped out the 5-speed and put in a built C4 with torque converter from UCC.
Where did you get your transmission from and who built it for you bro? Thinking about putting a c4 in my dads notch with a built 306. Currently has a tko 5spd but it has trouble throwing it in gear and the clutch is a stage 3 and that mf is a bitch to push

I have a white 1987 Gt 5 spd all stock! Nope ain't changing to auto! Thanks for your video, enjoyed it. My wife , deceased now, never drove my Stang. I like putting it in the gear I want, when I want!😊
I’m rolling! Laughing my a$$ off! It’s so obvious that you hated the swap. Getting in my late 50’s, I’m really starting to enjoy the AOD’s, but I do still have a couple of manual performance cars.

Put a Baumann shift kit and a 2500 stall in mine. All the difference

Been thinking about changing my 83 vert with a c4 to a aod. Some might say that's stupid but the vert is my cruising car and it was made when the speed limit was 55. The aod will make 75mph interstate riding much better on trips with the wife. And on gas mileage on highway and Interstate rides as well.

At first I was surprised by no spin from a stop, and no chirp in the upshift. My 93 has AFR pedestal mounts with 1.7 rockers, stock cam, Explorer intake, 70 mm throttle body/egr plate, 75mm Pro-m, long tubes and a couple little things. A Turbo-coupe 3.55 and 93 SVT 17" wheels, I don't floor it from a stop, if your spinning you're not winning. The AOD was rebuilt by the original school teacher owner at a local transmission shop but he said it was factory, no known hi stall converter.Different cars run different ways.

My 1989 GT convertible is rotting in two on the driveway which it has sat for 15 years. The top is non-existent now, the interior is destroyed, snd the floor pans are rusted through. I wish I could afford to fix it and keep it. I have a very bad back and knees so I couldn't take care of it as much as I wanted. Maybe if I sold everything I don't need I could get it back on the road by hiring somebody to do the repairs.
Bought the wife a 1988 coupe with an auto. Slow but she didn’t want to shift gears. I have to say I enjoy it in town but still prefer a stick

Put 4.10s in it. I went from 2.73s to 3.73s, to 4.10s. I won't AOD without 4.10s. Next is at least the transgo kit, then a converter.
My buddy had an AOD car with a shift kit and 4.10's. It would get down pretty good with that setup.

2800-3000rpm quality converter, good valve body, and a hi rev governor will make a huge difference. It'll be able to spin the tires from a roll after that.
I did the same thing with my 91 cause my 65 year old knees were not happy, but I have 410 in the rear, and when I let her lose, she's all over the road. I miss my T5 but I didn't have much choice and there's no way in hell I'm giving her up.

Converter, shift kit to tune the power curve. So you can burn off the rear tires.
I just wanted to point out.....the gas pedal is still 5 speed? It should have a skinny gas pedal. Shouldn't it? Otherwise, it's nice driving an auto sometimes. Love the channel.
My mom has a 5 speed in her 01 mustang and I have everything to make it a automatic and I asked her if she wanted me to she said I dare you to try, lol she ain't going for that crap 😂😂

I want one for my 88 coupe with shift kit and stall converter i already have 373 gears. I have gt40 top kit and e303 cam. Im tired of shifting and im also getting older.. great vid i got a chuckle out of it.

Both mustangs I've had have been autos and i love them as a daily driver. I hate a stick in stop and go traffic especially in a hilly area.
Mine would smoke the tires out of the hole and all stock.

Need that skinny gas pedal to truly be an AOD car 😜 Nice work! My daily is an auto. I’m doing the same thing at the moment after pulling a T5 out of one of my cars to put in my coupe. The donor car is getting the AOD from my notch. I’m going with a TCI Saturday Night Special converter.
We need a video of your wife driving the car at some point. If she goes from not driving the car much at all with the 5 speed to driving the car all the time with an automatic, than swapping the car to an AOD was not a bad decision. Even if a foxbody is a little bit less desirable with an automatic, I'm guessing that you are not going to sell this car anyways since it has sentimental value.
My 92 lx 5 spd. 5.0, tfs1 cam, tfs street burner intake, gt40p. ported heads, shortys, flownasters,410 gears,etc hit 12:68...swap to a c4 2500 stall and still hit 12:98 but yes on the street is 😫

Wife is definitely an exception for Aod just great you got her driving a fox, but nothin beats banging gear’s definitely in a Foxbody peace…. Side note I have drove 4r70w equipped fox with shift kit etc still blah for me
My fox landed in my lap with a Autotragic. This weekend I was surprised to find it had 4.10 gears. Maybe it wont be terrible.
My 5 speed is completely automatic. I get in and without even thinking about it, my leg automatically pushes in the clutch, my hand automatically selects the appropriate gear, and then my leg and foot automatically work together to drive the car down the road. It's amazing. And automatic.

Weird I can get my tired 91 vert to bark them off the line and it’s got 2:73 rear gears with a AOD!
Actually it shifts good for a stock AOD, having a Fox with a AOD, the gears do make a difference with them.
I say upgrade her to a cup console, and at minimum it's a great date night car, and teaching the kids how to drive in it..
I can tell cause the stick accelerator pedal is wider than the automatic… but still is a clean job 👌🏻

Every Fox I have owned my family keeps asking.. auto? Is it automatic so I can drive it... my next one will be an automatic cruiser with lots of torque but also highway gears. I am reaching a point where sharing these cars with my people is more enjoyable then banging gears... besides I still have two t5 anyways

Yea my AOD aint much on takeoff even with 4.10s. You would need 4.56s to come close to the bottom end of a T5.

You can manual shift it and you love it better than a t5 ,when you drop the gear on an aod it kicks in hard, ill beat a t5 on my aod , just knowing how to drive it
My 100% BONE STOCK 93 will spin tires pretty good, so you must have a weak ass motor.
