If you have the opportunity to buy a Wii U for cheap then I think it's worth it, but at $200 I'm not so sure.. unless there are some games on the Wii U you really want to play
The Wii U was basically a big part of my late childhood. Its one of the reasons i love mario and nintendo games/consoles. That is the exact box I got mine in, and I immediately fell in love with it. My Wii U is in mexico at my grandma's house, and I am going there for vacation soon, so I would be able to play it again for the first time in years. It is not a glorified Wii. It has introduced a load of different gaming experiences that are specific to this console. The Switch can port its games but it cannot port its control system nor its charm.

These are in my opinion the AAA games that made proper use of the gamepad. Lets remove even Zombi U and Starfox, since they got bad reviews. Please get the Wii U! It has a built in Wii, it's easy as hell to mod, it has great titles, and it is compatible with all of your previous Wii games, unlike the Switch. If you mod it, you can play some Gamecube games as well.

You could even have it where it can control the cable box as well. There was also an app called Nintendo TVii where it was an extra layer to the TV experience, mostly for the audience interaction. The best example of the audience feedback would probably be live sports. On the Game Pad, it would ask users what would happen for the next play in real time. It was quite revolutionary, but Nintendo removed it before they even discontinued the Wii U anyway. This kind of audience interaction can still be seen today on Twitch since Amazon has some of the broadcasting rights for some Thursday Night Football games. During one of the games, it asked what was going to happen for the next play.
Most game servers are still up and the games are good. Very underrated console. I got mine for 80-100 bucks on late 2018 btw. Worth it if you can find a deal
Yeah so far a lot of listings I've seen on average about 135 bucks so far the only game that I know of that servers are getting shut down super Mario maker well least you can't upload courses but you can still play old ones

Unless you already own one, there is minimal reason to get one nowadays unless you REALLY want to play Xenoblade Chronicles X or something. Most of its library has been ported to Switch so it has very few exclusives left going for it. The only people who might start looking into this now are collectors or people who plan to use it for Homebrew (tbf the Wii U is an emulation beast). I say this as someone who bought one new in 2014 lol.

You should mod it as it lets you play the entire back catalog of GameCube and pretty much all Nintendo consoles and handhelds that came before it. Tons of guides and how to’s. I’ve got three, one stock and two modded and my kids (mostly grown now) still play them frequently. Still the best party console imho. I still play worldwide multiplayer with Mario Kart 8 and there’s still plenty of people playing it. Can’t speak on other multiplayer titles but for couch co-op it can’t be beat.
Last week I purchased a complete Wii U with Mario 3D World, Splatoon and Pikmin 3 at one First Cash store for only 60 dollars, so hell am not gonna pay 60 dollars + taxes just for Bowser's Fury.

The 32 gb on the wii u was instant memory while the ps4 and xbox one used slow hdd's. Of course they are not as graphically intense, but all wii u games load much faster than xbox or ps4 games.

Also, the Switch has yet to make a virtual console without it being a subscription. I prefer to own my games, something the Wii U allows me to do. Just got one from eBay in early January. Came as the splatoon and super smash bros edition box included for $197. Great condition works great. I also got mk8, super Mario world, breath of the wild, and nsmb u. I love this thing. I’m thinking of modding it idk yet. But I do recommend it it’s a emulation beast.
It is awesome modded. Even though it is kinda redundant for me since I can just emulate the Wii, GameCube and VC games on PC/Steam Deck, I like the feel of playing with the console/game pad.
They didn’t remove Netflix, I still watch it in my room but I can also watch it on my series s or Xbox one but I think I should just enjoy it while it last’s

The crazy thing is i got one at Goodwill about two weeks ago and it had Mario kart 8 download on it I got it in the way section for three bucks and it works I have gotten game sports since then and I got Pikmin 3 super smash Brothers Wii u and the new super Mario Brothers and I plan on keeping the system because they're going to go up in value specially the GamePad

Overall id say its a better buy than the original wii for sure, i mean original wii doesn't have eshop anymore and the eshop is arguably better than the switch eshop due to the virtual console alone, not to mention the appearance of the shop compared to switch, also with wii u you can play all the wii library including wii u games, still worth the price imo, obviously some people aren't going to feel the same way and thats fine. Back in the day I had a Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD Nintendo Wii U and it did not come with Nintendo Land there's some that don't come with Nintendo Land

The thing is the wiiu had flash memory like the one you find in phones or the switch and 32 gigs was very expensive in 2012, i preffer that kind of memory is faster has less errors and doesn't make sound like a hard drive and they used that couse the wiiu is a small system they couldn't use a hard drive they would have made the system bigger

Overall id say its a better buy than the original wii for sure, i mean original wii doesn't have eshop anymore and the eshop is arguably better than the switch eshop due to the virtual console alone, not to mention the appearance of the shop compared to switch, also with wii u you can play all the wii library including wii u games, still worth the price imo, obviously some people aren't going to feel the same way and thats fine. Game on!

The thing is the wiiu had flash memory like the one you find in phones or the switch and 32 gigs was very expensive in 2012, i preffer that kind of memory is faster has less errors and doesn't make sound like a hard drive and they used that couse the wiiu is a small system they couldn't use a hard drive they would have made the system bigger

Funny how i jus got an adapter for my new tv to play the og Wii system. Modded it with letterbomb to play all games off usb stick s. So easy to do. Pretty sure it can be done on here also
