5 Steps to Starting a Notary Business

- When it comes to launching a Notary business, whether you work as a mobile Notary, Loan Signing Agent or both, the biggest question people have is: How do I start? Here is a 5-step plan to help you start a Notary business.
00:19 - Step 1: Research market in your area
Identify potential client/customer base & opportunities
00:38 - Step 2: Create A Business Plan
The plan should include the services you will provide (NSA vs. General vs. remote); the hours and areas you intend to serve; a start-up and initial operating budget; and your initial marketing plans.
01:33 - Step 3: Create, maintain a web presence
Create a website that includes the relevant information about your business such as your contact information; hours and area of operation; and the services you provide. This also includes business profiles on social media websites.
02:02 - Step 4: Network with other Notaries
This can be a crucial step to your success. It will help you find a mentor. And by collaborating with other Notaries, you can share information and send clients to each other
02:25 - Step 5: Market Yourself
Get your Notary business name out there. Tell people you are a Notary. If you’re doing loan signings, sign up with as many Notary databases (e.g. SigningAgent.com, 1-2-3Notary). Network with your local business community by joining business associations. And get involved in community activities as schools, senior centers, veteran’s events and such.
Conclusion:
Once you get started, re-evaluate your plan; expand your services; diversify!

Do I need to get a DBA for my notary business? Or should I form an LLC?
Hello. Some jurisdictions, including cities, counties and states, don’t require you to get a license at all; some look at gross receipts; others look at whether you’re doing business at home and earn anything; while some jurisdictions just want you to register and pay a fee no matter what you do.
