Mad Mike PLEASE MAKE A 10 HOUR LOOP OF THIS?! MY 6 MONTH OLD LOVES IT!!!!
Mad Mike thank you for uploading this beautiful song...... I used to sing it to my little boy at bed time. I cherish those moments because he will never get to know his dad. So I try to be both Mom and dad to all my children. It's pretty sad before your screen......
When I lost a my family member is really hard and it's hurts...😔
If you guys really want to cry, this song is about saying goodbye to people you love. So when Nani is singing this to Lilo, not only are they having a sweet sister moment, but Nani is saying goodbye to Lilo bc she thinks the social worker will take her away.
Joyce K ya like when the queen of Hawaii had to say goodbye to her kingdom and kanaka Napoli people and culture as the us business men over threw her
@@minananananan1842 thats american "democracy" for you
You see the thing is, even as I child I could some what tell she was saying goodbye but I wasn't am emotional person them. I am now though
Yeah that makes it more sad
Dude you just make me cry wtf
I rewatched this movie as an adult and decided to focus on Nani's perspective. As a young adult, I can just barely take care of myself, so seeing Nani struggle so much to take care of Lilo is just so heart breaking.
omg me too i just watched it right now, i didn't understood the movie much when i was 8, but not I saw her sister's struggle being barely and adult forced to be a solo parent oh god
I realised that when I watched it as a child
As the eldest sister with two younger brothers that are still kids this song comes too close to home, seeing nani struggle to care for her sister just so that they wouldn't get separated makes me realize that I would do the same thing she does if I were in her shoes just so my brothers won't be taken away from me.
It's sadder when you realise nani and lilo's parents was killed in a car accident when it was raining and lilo feeds a fish she believes controls the weather.
Oh my god it was painful to watch this film as an adult. When Nani broke down after Lilo was kidnapped i wanted to cry so bad, oh my god
In Hawai'i we sing this song at the end of a Funeral. But its more upbeat to show that our loved ones will go on moving forward knowing that they're in a better place.
J K my dog died two days ago. after reading your comment while listening to this, has bought peace to me.

I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing . ❤️
I simply adore the expressions in this scene. Lilo is a kid, and as smart and quirky as she is, she can't completely understand what was going on. Nani on the other hand does, and you can tell how much it hurts her.

Even more heartbreaking when you realize that Queen Liliuokaloni "Queen Lili," wrote this song as a dirge and apology to her own people when she was forced to sign away Hawaii as a territory to the U.S. in order to save her people from continued slaughter by the U.S.
Quentin Barrentine she wrote this song like 15 years earlier actually.
I only just so happened to have seen the obscure movie Molokai: The Story of Father Damien, where a youthful and vibrant Lili'uokalani sings the song so the lepor children and that couldn't possibly have been any later than ~1883 because Damien wasn't infected yet.
Even more heartbreaking when you realize King Kamehameha shook dicks with the US to subjugate and unite all the islands of Hawaii in the first place, thus deeply ingraining the US into the politics of the newly unified micronation
@@cybililil7561 @Cybil Ilil actually it was with Britain not the US, he ceded the islands to them for weapons.
There are letters that he sent to King George 3rd about helping conquer the islands.
It's a very dark spot in American history, one that should never be forgotten. It's a tragedy, she used to look up to us, to respect us, and we betrayed her.
"It's okay, I remember everyone who leaves."
That line hit me right in the feels.
Same... God bless you and your loved ones Veggie.
this in combination with the "Ohana means family, and family means nobody is left behind or forgotten. But you ccan choose to leave" gets me every timr
I just finished my Hawaiian history class and it is sad how much the people and the land of Hawai'i had suffered for decades. Other than that, this song is beautiful and the meaning almost made me cry.

They were occupied by force
I am not sure how old Nani and Lilo were when they lost their parents, but Nani is one of the strongest characters I know who took the responsibility of parenting Lilo and maintaining the household even at the threat of having her taken away by social services. Her influence is what taught Stitch the meaning of "Ohana".
Given that social services is still evaluating Nani as a caretaker at the beginning of the movie and she is only 19, I’d say it’s been less than a year since their deaths.

I remember singing this to my mother when she wasn't mentally there just a bit before she passed. She was always angry or just... there with no emotion which really hurt to see. This song was one of the things that made her light up with joy and that's why Lilo and Stitch is such a special movie to me.
Im go to Hawaii for my mom
This movie is my son's favorite! And this scene/song always stops him in his tracks (he's two so short attention span) so I started singing it to him at bedtime. I wanted to learn the whole song and now I'm diving into a whole history that is so important! I want my son to know about the culture that he's singing about and not just think it's some song from a kids movie.

This song is a plain goodbye an ode to Queen Lili’uokalani it’s truly sad and this song holds significant meaning for Hawaiian natives. I remember thinking when I was a child how beautiful the voice is and I look at this scene now and it truly hits a chord.
As a kid, I used to get emotional over this scene bc I knew it was a goodbye between sisters. As an adult, I still get emotional for not only the same reasons, but for the actual reasons for the song's existence. I'll never not cry to this movie. Favorite childhood film ever.
Me just realizing that Nani didn't know how to tell her sister that they would be separated so she sang this song instead. I'm literally sobbing in my car. 😭
So I'm learning Hawaiian right, and like, this song was beautiful before I could truly understand the words -I knew the meaning behind it all - but like now, being able to understand the words just makes this song even more beautiful oml.

ジョネーJonét I feel the same way. This is, in my heart, my goodbye song to my parents.
It's a very old song written by the last Queen of the Hawaiian island.
It’s over 100 years old
The song is like a gentle hug, and knowing the background of the song, it's so sad that a queen that is loved by the native Hawaiians was deposed by greedy pineapple farmers.
Are you insulting SpongeBob?
This song is making me tear up, I'm not even Hawaiian.

I love this song! Especially how she sang it with such emotion and passion in here💘
Watching this as a child made me see nani as a strict overprotective clumsy mother, i focused too much with lilo and stitch. Now that im 18 nani just made me realize shes a hardworking and loving big sister and i relate so much with her trying to be responsible and there for someone. Shes trying to be there for lilo even tho she knows she can never be a good parent :((( awe
Nani is Lilio's older sister, but something happened to their parents causing Nani to take care of Lilio.
i thnik Nani knows that she is now not a good parent (Lilo does not make it easy on her). Does not mean she never wil be a good parent
This is an incredible rendition of a very beautiful song. Is it true that the Queen of Hawaii sang this when her kingdom fell to the Americans? I might have my history wrong here.
Nope. You nailed it. It is the reason why it's so important in Hawaii and why natives go angry when strangers play the song without care. Really beautiful song and with a heart-felt meaning
Do you know what happened to her, to the queen, after the fact? I just love how America was, at its founding, so very anti-Colonialist that they were willing to separate from the British Empire, and now they've turned into an echo of it, but entirely without the grace and culture.
Apparently, she married an Scottish business man and wasn't happy. She would come back to Hawaii but never more as its princess. She travelled the world and became the perfect Victorian lady but something tells me that she missed her origins till she died.
I would too. You can take the Queen from her home but not the home from its Queen. Know what I mean? That's the same for anyone though, not just royalty, I'd imagine.
I hear you. Good thing is the natives knew this too and decided to keep the song as her parting gift, so that in a way she would always be part of Hawaii. It's a happy thought and I'm sure many will agree, even you
My grandmother just passed a few days ago , and this song hit me hard in the knee caps with feels honestly . I was making her a memorial piece and just couldnt stop crying , but this song inspired it . I have lost 3 relatives this year , thanks to 2020’s shit show of a year so far . It has been incredibly hard on my family , my dads brother found on Christmas dead from health issues , my moms brother overdosing , and now my grandmother of a brain bleed . I have to keep telling myself nothing is my fault , but the fact I never got to talk to them one more time hit very hard emotionally . I had gotten through to the hospital finally with my grandma , but sadly she went comatose a bit before I got through to the right people , and it has just been eating away at me . I know she knows I loved her , it’s just been emotional turmoil and this song has helped me let the pain out of all the sadness I have been hiding to be there for my mom . Rest in pease Allen , Vincent and Grandma Sandy , I hope we will get to meet and talk again someday , somehow .
I am deeply sorry for your losses. 2020 has been such a rough year. I hope this song gives you comfort during these times. Sending you & your family lots of love. ❤

This song reminds me of the day when we lost our kitten Leo. It was August 2nd, 2021 and he had passed away a few minutes before I got to him. I gave him one last hug, and his body was still warm. Learning about the history of this song makes this scene even more heartbreaking
The true history that it's a love song written by Queen Liliuokalani or the fake history that says it's written as a farewell to the Hawai'ian nation?
Looking back on this I realize that I loved this movie so much as a kid because this movie was a good reflection on my realty growing.
If you listen closely this song has a similar tune to that of How great thou art. Befitting of such a beautiful song. Power and love to Hawaii and her people. ❤️❤️❤️

This was one of the most touching songs I've heard.
It is really unfortunate that this beautifully performed rendition of this song is not available on the soundtrack, or any other location I can identify other than UA-cam.
The fact that just the knowledge of what a song means somehow making lyrics in another language fully understandable is still chilling
It's quite refreshing to hear Tia Carrere sing a calm, yet sad rendition of Aloha 'Oe after hearing her sing a badass rendition of Ballroom Blitz from Wayne's World.
As an adult, re-watching this movie particularly this scene made me cry, i don’t remember doing that as a kid…times have changed…changed me
