I live in Dublin and was born and raised there. I enjoy your videos, but I have to say that you could not have picked WORSE pubs to sample a pint of Guinness. The cheapest pint here and €6.40 and the dearest was €8.95! 🙄
I think it's important to point out that real Dublin people wouldn't pay those prices...anything over €6 is considered extortionate and daylight robbery.
The worst part about the €8.95 pint is that not only was it SLOP, but it wasn't even a full pint! Absolutely disgraceful. The other thing that amazed me was that the Temple Bar pub was packed. I bet they were all tourists because ordinary Dubs (very few, anyway) wouldn't be seen dead in a place like that. And if a barman served them a pint like that, they'd throw it in his face! Pubs like these don't do the Irish tourism industry any good. Ordinary Dubs generally avoid Temple Bar like the plague. By the way, a pint of Guinness - and GOOD Guinness, too - is €5.60. Most Dubs would rarely expect to pay more than that. Love the videos. Keep up the good work 👍
Hi thanks for your advice but now you have me thinking about coming back in the near future and doing another video so could you list 5 authentic Dublin pubs where I would get cheaper Guinness not too far from the tourist area?
What would you say is the average on a single gin and lemonade or a single vodka and lemonade for example. My wife drinks shots and i drink pints so just looking for a rough idea

Temple Bar 9.95 euro as of last week. As a tourist, the ambiance and energy of the spot is worth the price...for 1....
I would have sent that pint at Temple Bar right back across (actually I've ordered a drink in there and never will). That's right criminal. Just a short walk to Palace Bar for a proper pint, even if it will cost more than €6.

This year I'm going to London and Dublin.
I think the Guinness in Dublin will still be cheaper. The temple bar is notorious for expensive drink. You should have told the barman to Top-up the pint of guineas.

Visitors/Tourist to Dublin City don't realise, (and why would they?) that there is very much a 'Two Tier' pricing system in place... (So called 'TOURIST' pubs and hotels charge more...)
Irish/Dublin people don't drink in those kind of bars/pubs... (WE come to pubs to talk, generally... WE don't generally need a bloke on guitar playing 'Whiskey In The Jar' to enhance the experience... Though THAT CAN BE FUN if that's what you're after... But there won't be many Dubliners there...)
Conversely, there are many Dublin pubs which host all sorts of ORIGINAL PLAYERS in all sorts of genres, (Trad/Rock/Folk) who are better and more original... (That's where Dubliners go...)
But it can be difficult, as a visitor, to find such 'local' places... (This is true of all cities...)
In terms of PRICES, Temple Bar is vastly overpriced, and the beer isn't the best. In 2024, NINE QUID a pint is not unusual... (But within walking distance you can pay SIX QUID for a better pint...) In a better pub. (There are indeed SOME PUBS where you can get a pint of Guinness for a little over a fiver... These are not SALUBRIOUS establishments... But they do exist...) And, if you are open minded, have a certain 'charm'... (Maybe not QUITE charm...) But a certain sense of A DUBLIN that tourists don't see... (Not DANGEROUS at all, though you might be BORED TO DEATH if some local hears your accent and decides to engage with you...) Most actually don't, and are very polite.
You need to find a boozer where THE BARMEN (invariably men) and the WAITING STAFF are actually Irish Nationals...
Examples would include MULLIGANS of Poolbeg Street, NEARY'S off Grafton Street, MC DAIDS again off Grafton Street and THE LONG HALL on George's Street... (Quality pubs all, but about SIX EURO for a pint...) Places where DUBLIN PEOPLE drink... (None of those pubs do live music...) Nor do they need to. (There are DOZENS of other pubs like that in the City...)
Music is OF COURSE a big part of Irish PUB culture... (But, often, in PUBS the music event will be in an upstairs function room...) As in THE HA'PENNY BRIDGE, indeed... (If there is a Guy/Girl playing music on the ACTUAL FLOOR of the pub you walk into, probably best go somewhere else... That SCREAMS 'tourist trap'...) And the pint will be over priced... (NINE EURO as opposed to SIX!!!!)
A GOOD TIP when visiting DUBLIN is to take a look at the 'free sheet' magazines that you'll find in (perhaps) your hotel lobby or even in pubs you find yourself in... (Though helpful to tourists, these normally talk about LOCAL ACTS and the kind of pubs and venues they play... TEMPLE BAR VENUES don't advertise in such magazines... They don't have to... HOWEVER such guides can give visitors an idea of WHAT IS ACTUALLY GOING ON outside of the tourist main drag....
Dublin is a wonderful city to visit.

I've only been to Dublin once and I can only tolerate a half of Guiness if it is strongly laced with blackcurrant needless to say that I visited where it is made and at the end of the tour you got a free pint of guiness but they refused to add blackcurrant to it!
