The LED switch is a godsend... It’s so simple to basically black out the build in hardware, while in many other products you need some proprietary software to switch to black colour to disable those lights... this way, it's just a single toggle to off and done. Works great regardless of OS or no OS for that matter, without the hassle or burden of extra software. Those who want millions of colours to choose from can always get the higher model from the catalogue. The only pity is having that extra violet colour and the extra logic on the board to drive the non-default hue. This really should've been just white, or maybe if they wanted to splice things up with extra colour, just a hardware-bound and controlled temperature following LED system...
You can always remove the cooler and put on a liquid cooler with fancy lights anyways. I suspect these Partner boards will eventually have BIOS's released that up the power limit. (As well as abetter drivers).
the extra logic is literally going to be a couple of lines at most. more likely its a separate basic ic chip on board that switches the chip to a different modulation
Unless RGB makes it go faster, I honestly couldn't careless, in fact, I'd rather they removed it all together and added liquid metal instead with the money they saved. These things overclock like a champ, could you possibly do a round up of say 3 7800xt with OC vs 3 4070 with OC to see the average across all cards? That would be fab and would give people a realistic expectation as to what kind of average OC to expect. Top vid man. Thanks
I have the hellhound 7900xtx and it also only has two colors, that purple and white. Tbh I don't mind at all. It was considerably cheaper than the other 7900xtx's. As long as you're not a stickler for rgb, it's definitely a worthwhile sacrifice on an otherwise great card.
I have a PowerColor 7800 XT that I was lucky enough to get at MSRP (Micro Center had $20 off the $520 list price day of launch; not sure how long it lasted). I'm very happy with this card so far. It's quiet and works well. While I do sometimes tinker with RGB on case fans, software RGB control on the graphics card usually requires some extra bloatware to operate, and while the lighting is pretty limited, it's nice to not need any software and also to be able to turn it off if not wanted. The purple looks pretty good though, especially when running my fans on a similar purple theme; what looks cool isn't the fans lighting up, but rather the lighting glowing through the fin stack.
@@ShtraddaG So far it is still working like new. I've had no issues. It's still a thumbs up from me. It would be nice if AMD had better ray tracing performance, but I don't play any games with ray tracing so it really doesn't affect me.
@@ShtraddaG I'll chime in here as I own a 7800 XT Hellhound too. I've had mine for maybe 3 months now, I won the Spectral White version in a PowerColor giveaway. I wish I could undervolt my card even further, it goes down to 1030mV, below that it starts to become unstable. This is still pretty good UV potential (stock is 1150mV), I'm just jealous that other people can go below 1000mV. Interestingly, the overall performance of these OC partner versions of the 7800 XT, sits right on the level of the RX 6900 XT, but with a lot less power draw. Also, the additional user OC that you've demonstrated, matches almost exactly to partner RX6950 XT cards, but at 50W less consumption. You can verify this yourself from the TechPowerUp tests of these older cards. I presume the reverse would be true, that you could undervolt/underclock the 6950 XT to give 7800 XT performance, with reduced power & temp? The last stocks of new 6950 XTs are going for the same price as the 7800 XTs you've recently tested, so performance vs cost of the two is actually the same, other than the power demands.
nice to-the-point-review. towards the RGB: if they add a 4th position to the selection switch (example: blue, puple, off, external) "external control" and provide an A-RGB Connector (like Sapphire does), so you are able to connect it to an RGB controller or the motherboard. So they provide a basic RGB experience, but don't need to go overboard with it, while giving the option to control it external. That would be a possible solution.

I ended up with a 4070, as i was waiting with a 1060 for it to come out, and it took AMD months later to come out with a competitor in the tier. Happy with it. Locally the 7800 XT is about the same price as a 4070 in the same brand. So here its a 50/50 proposition which way to go, depending on what games you play. I play games that go better on NVidia. But some games are clearly better on AMD. So id research that part to decide.
The Hellhound's cooling performance and quietness are outstanding. Gamers are better off buying the 7800XT Hellhound than the cheaper 4070s. There are long-term benefits. Because the temperature is low and the fan rotates at low speed, the risk of deterioration and failure is reduced. I bought a PNY 4070s dual on sale, but the future seems bleak so I'm wondering if I should sell it and buy a hellhound. In my environment, both are the same price.

@@brucefly3612 I don't think there's much difference in quietness. The Hellhound is a little cheaper, so I think I'll choose the Hellhound since I value price as much as performance. Impressive. since my current build is white, hope that they will release a white version. Another thing is that I hope that the IO bracket is stainless steel. My existing card is badly rusted. May have to buy Asus tuf instead, since they have white and the IO bracket is stainless steel.
hey quick question here, if i can get the red devil for the same price as a hellhound in my region (canada) i am assuming that is a better one to buy? they are literally the same price and the hellhound is out of stock but the red devil is in stock so i pulled the trigger. Do i keep it? i got 30 days to return, any info would be helpful. I had my eyes set on the hellhound because i like the simple design and thermals, i assume red devil uses a similar or better cooler?
Red devil is top of the line slightly over clocked and should have better cooling and you can swap each fans separately and no need to take the whole bracket to do this , pick red devil is better choise , I preorder red devil when they came out but I'm not going to get it atleast 2 months so I see hellhound in stock and I change my order so, but both of them are excellent choice , and mother thing red devil you have argb and you can sync with your rest of the system , hope this helps

The amount of noise varies even for the same product. Choose a store that will agree to exchange the product due to the noise level. That's the only way you're less likely to regret it.
I am looking to pair this GPU with the NZXT H1 v2. The GPU clearance is 324 mm in the H1 and this GPU is 322 mm so I know it will fir. But this one diemntion on the PowerColor website confused me. It said the size is 332 (with bracket). Will this card fit in the NZXT H1 v2?
Thanks in advance! Awesome video~!
Would you take the hellhound or the red devil 7800xt? Hellhound here 559€, Red devil 599€
I bought the Radeon RX 6950 XT reference specifically to put in a water block because I got it cheaper and the blocks for the reference are somewhat cheaper. Sometimes that's the best use for them IMO, the newer high-end ones as the run hotter but can be had for cheaper if you plan to water-cool anyway not to buy then say it's too hot, I have to water cool.
Thoughts on the fighter lineup? its the only thing that can fit in my case
bought it today for 580 € hope comes this week
Does the central fan spinning in reverse actually reduce turbulance or are they doing it because it just looks cooler.
Damn. Maybe power color should get their hands on Nvidia cards as well.
I am considering a build with this GPU and a ryzen 5 7600.
Impressive. since my current build is white, hope that they will release a white version. Another thing is that I hope that the IO bracket is stainless steel. My existing card is badly rusted. May have to buy Asus tuf instead, since they have white and the IO bracket is stainless steel.
I prefer the Red Devil but this is also impressive looking.
I do as well but its like 550 which is quite expensive.
joined for the review, stayed for the eyes
Is the entire front around the fans made of aluminium or plastic?
Just got mine for same price as reference. Agree about LEDs since mine has to be vertical to fit in case. Love it otherwise!
if AMD only Sapphire due this is only Brand that still use PCB protection fuses that prevent card PCB gets totalled if power stage fail.
Does this gpu need a gpu bracket?
Calling it the 'icehound' would make more sense.
The purple is the way to go
how does this card compare to the XFX QICK 7800 XT?
id prefer proper rgb, although having option to turn off lights fully with a switch is nice instead of relying on software
What program is the one that you used for the overclooking?
hey quick question here, if i can get the red devil for the same price as a hellhound in my region (canada) i am assuming that is a better one to buy? they are literally the same price and the hellhound is out of stock but the red devil is in stock so i pulled the trigger.
Late to reply. I bought and tried both. Im gonna return red devil and keep hellhound for a single reason: coil whine. The whine on Red devil is about 2-3 time louder than hellhound.
@@ZLi-p8wi also went with the hellhound, the price went under msrp here in canada do i went with it and saved myself 50 bucks vs the red devil. It also looks way better too design wise, good to know there is less coil whine, so far mine is dead silent
I will get an Rx 7800XT when it gets to 400€, unless something better comes out
Still dont get the physical bios switch.
Question, which one do you recommend most between the hellhound and the gigabyte model?. Full regards.
Between the Hellhound and the Gigabyte Gaming OC, the Hellhound wins without a doubt.
What about Coil whine at this Card?
05:38 - wasn't any!
How is comparing to Red Devil 7800 OC?
Hi so if I run this on a TV with hdmi 2.1 & 144hz in game mode does this mean I can play in 4k at 120 fps ?
I'm literally about to purchase it, is it too big?
I geht my Card today. One of the three makes a mechanic noise.
Ist this normal?
Will this Hellhound GPU fit in corsair spec 03 (do i need to remove HDD bay)?
+ ? can i attach a bottom fan on the bottom panel vent for additional air intake towards gpu = will it work or jst another waste on bottom fan attachment
Would personally get the Sapphire Pulse or the Asus Tuf over this. HUB also stated it clocks somewhat poorly
My sample clocked fine, similar to the Sapphire Nitro+ and a small bit faster from reference. We show that from 06:16 onwards
Wow thats so quiet you cant even tell apart from normal background!
when you overclock through the AMD software does it matter if the switch of the card is on the silent/oc mode?
I'd recommend using the OC BIOS as it has a higher base power target
Wait so it cant sync with mainboard? What a shame, even Sapphire Nitro+ has cable fan led can sync with mainboard.
Why did they have to make it 332mm long 🙄🙄, i have a Fractal Torent Compact and its so hard to find a gpu that fits that 330mm lenght..
@KitGuruTech mind doing review on Asus TUF 7800 xt model?
Got this card recently. Mine definitely gas some coil whine, but it is tolerable. Otherwise it has been great.
What is coil whine bro?
any views on the gigabyte version of the card ? is it a good solid card ? or is it better to go for another company ?
Full review will be up Friday!
I have so much stuttering with a 5800x cpu in 2k ultra in God of War for example. Is it normal for this gpu?
where I live hellhound is 100 euros cheaper than any other alternative. I've been following the prices for 4 months now its always the case. idgaf about the lights tbh I want raw performance and lowest possible price
will this one fit to the meshroom D?
