    Looks awesome!!! Have you measured how far the torsion axles "compress" with your body weight sitting on the trailer? It's still looking pretty light. When you get the coupler attached, drag the trailer up and down a few different roads to observe how it tracks. It's easier to correct any issues before the box goes on..

      Thanks man, it’s crazy light, I’ve got a lot more room for weight than I thought, my bike is 800lbs, and has a cargo capacity of 445 putting it at max 1245 curb weight not even talking trailers, just the bike factory specs.
      I upgraded the suspension so it can hold more than that, taking into account the 15-20% rule, I could tow a trailer 250lbs max, assuming the bike is fully loaded, of course it won’t be, I made it much lighter.
      So according to my math here I can potentially pull a trailer 250lbs no problem and only be at 850-1000lbs wet including myself on it, and have roughly 300lbs to spare. Does this sound correct?
      I’m shooting for a 20-30lb tongue weight so after I build out the box, which is very light, I’m going to arrange the trailer systems to meet that weight and still have plenty of weight to spare.

      Oh and they don’t compress much, 500lb max for each one making it a 1000lb trailer, not sure if that’s going to be an issue but it will be an awesome camper to pull a ton of weight behind a car or something, it’s definitely a cool rig

      @@JMERCHRIDES This is where things get fun.. You have a lightened bike with big touring brakes.. Getting the trailer to move isn't a problem, stopping is. The best way I can equivocate is that you should feel like you have a slightly wiggly 10 year old as a passenger.. My Shadow 750 could tow and stop a 190lb trailer with roughly 150lbs in it quite easily. (150 lbs of gear is an amazing amount of stuff) You have shaft drive so chain stretch is a non issue for you.. Make sure your hitch system for the bike is very sturdy.. I broke one, it's a weird feeling.
      Having the trailer at the weight you specify shouldn't be any problem at all..
      Consider a small cooler mount for the tongue if the balance works out. It's nice to grab a drink quickly without having to dig into the cargo box..

      Ok awesome, it makes me feel much better talking to someone who knows a lot about it, I’m just doing searches on google, so again I can’t thank you enough. I do have one question that I’ve been wondering.
      I’m going to make a mount on my rear frame (not any moving parts) and make it level with the tongue correct? And if I do is it better to bolt it on or weld? It’s going to be a double A frame meeting at the hitch behind the tire

      @@JMERCHRIDES My mount was bolted to the frame of the bike. When we rebuilt it, it bolted at the fender attach points and at the rear foot pegs. So 4 "bolts" on each side. Hardened of course. I've seen motorcycle receivers that use the axle as a mount point, I'm not a huge fan.. With careful fabrication you can keep the pegs with the receiver in place..
      You bike should be old enough that you can use a 5 to 4 wire trailer adapter. Hoppy makes them under various names and the are the same as the "motorcycle" ones at about half the price.
      Keep the tongue of the trailer as level as possible with a slight (10° down angle) down angle to keep the trailer from trying to lift the back tire under heavy braking.. The thing is to trick the bike into thinking your riding 2 up, putting weight on the rear foot peg mounting points does this.

    I just watched the video again and would suggest adding mounting tabs in all the corners on the "top" side of the frame for the box, instead of drilling through the frame to mount the box..

    • @JMERCHRIDES
      @JMERCHRIDES  3 роки тому +1

      I considered doing that but I just construction glued, tapped and screwed right to the frame, it’s rock solid, I just don’t think it’s THAT important for this particular build to remove the deck again. I’m spray foaming the underside and fully sealed the wood in, giving it a few more sports in the middle.
      The axles can just be unbolted and put on another frame if I decide to do something different and can be adjusted by loosening the nuts so it’s all very easy to adjust, but the 1/2” plywood deck will last a long time covered and sealed so I’m going for a rigid + permanent style deck on this one, if I need to build another frame down the road it will be another 100$ In Steel, so very cheap.
      I’m currently making good headway and it’s coming along really well, I’ll be most definitely putting something over the tongue for storage
