Much bigger plans than the last one. I'm not spending my own money this time so I can justify buying better gear.

Always nice when you’re not limited by your own budget!
I can feel myself getting tempted to start a hardtail bobber 650 after I’ve finished this XS1B I’m restoring.. what are your thoughts on those? The weld on hard tails look pretty easy to install with a bit of careful measurement, and the 650 engine just looks so good in a hardtail frame!

The hardtail conversion would be pretty cool. Not something I would want to ride for any length of time though. All the hoops I would have to jump through to legally register a bike with a modified frame in Australia would make it prohibitively expensive so I will leave those kind of mods to the guys in the US (insert envious sigh)

Thanks mate. I'm calling it the rattle can restoration.

Sounds accurate @@2wheelworkshop Can't wait to see how good it looks before you strip it to do it properly

Pull back, sped-up footage provides an interesting time and motion study. If the bike were closer to the tools on the wall I calculate you would have saved, 3,452 steps in today's video. ;-)

🤣Yeah but I like my space and if I keep them down I will forget where I put them and spend forever looking for tools. I prefer the exercise.

Funnily enough, my American XS650 import does have a month of manufacture on the headstock ID label. Thankfully we don't have quite the hassle you seem to have in Aus over getting a registration

    • @2wheelworkshop

The headstock label on mine was unreadable. Australia is getting ridiculous with all of the hoops that you have to jump through to do anything these days, and you need to pay someone at every step.

@@2wheelworkshop Our DVLA will accept a certificate from the UK Yamaha Owners Club as to year of manufacture. Handy

I'm just gonna stamp 03/75 into the stem and hope for the best.🤣
