This has been a fun and expiremental journey! I am so glad you guys followed us during this time. :) Just for fun, if you watch all 9 episodes, reply to this post which episode was your favorite. ~Josh Royer
Definitely this last episode, the knife just came out perfect!
Episode 5. The handle design is what pulled me in first!
I loved them all, but the last one always is the most exciting and satisfying.
The last , simply because we saw the knife come together . We went through the journey knowing this was going to be somthing special and weren’t disappointed . What was special for me was my two boys 8 and 10 watched every episode with me and were really excited to see the finished knife and the older one is going to use it as this terms project for his class . Thanks from the Gold Coast Down Under
PART 7, ALL THE INLAY IS SO SATISFYING, AND THAT HANDLE FINISH IS SO DOPE. SO MUCH STINKIN PATIENCE. MASTER!
Such a stunning piece. I love the self critique at the end, it's inspiring to know that at your level there are still details to chase. Great Video editing as well 👌
Hey thanks
@@KyleRoyerKnivesI’d love to see you make a knife like no other kinda like you did the Bowie knife a really cool Damascus pattern with a lot of gold in it or better yet make a knife made of nothing but timascus I’d prefer a Bowie or hunting knife style I know it’s hard and prob expensive so I don’t really expect you to make one but thanks for the amazing content hard work and dedication respect 💯💯😎
The XCAL is a great artistic triumph, and an absolutely remarkable achievement of superior knife making skill. I am in awe of the bold statement that this knife makes.
One of the elements that really I appreciate is the subtle, compound blade geometry. A masterful accomplishment, Kyle. Thank you for including us on this fantastic journey.
Thanks Jeffrey
I love how you are hyper critical of the most beautiful knife I have ever seen. Means the sky is the limit to your creativity and design philosophy. Well done.
The contrast of the gold inlay with the black of the handle and the blued fittings looks phenomenal, well done guys.
Best knife I have ever seen! Master skills and craftsmanship needed to pull this off! Amazing work Kyle keep it up👍
Right? The knife is so beautiful, and I want one.
First question... do you have eyes? Second question, are they open...
Yeah I’m just starting my knife forging journey I can only hope to have a fraction of this skill someday it’s inspiring
@@MrLanzac look up helle knives :)
14:45 Took my breath away a little. You know I love the practical art that you and your family produce and I think that this piece may be one of your finest commissions. I became quite invested in this project and have seen some things that others may not have noticed:
On one side of the blade, the pattern forms an abstract, stretched 'X' which is in harmony with the company logo.
Plating the tool in 24-carat Gold was brilliant. Your name and the company logo are in Gold. The maker and receiver/user of the knife. So it's fitting that the tool that you or the owner will use on this knife is identified as an integral yet separate entity to the knife itself.
Your vision of the Blueing making the Gold pop was an understatement. That logo lights up the way it does in the company office. Truly stunning.
Finally, this knife design, if made from less unique and expensive materials would be a tool I'd use in the bush. The blade style is very practical and the handle would be ergonomically good with a grippier material. I know that the knife you created would be useable in that situation but it would be a travesty to try and dress an animal or make a fire with this beautiful creation.
Kudos again to all of you. If I was in a place where I could put knife making equipment I'd sign up for your courses. Maybe in a few years when I get settled somewhere (58-year-old wanderer here).
Hey thanks old wanderer
We are glad you are here together with us all on this journey
Thanks for your encouragement. You may be amazed at what some of our clients do with their $5K-$30K knives. Some make it to the field for bragging rights then score a hunting kill.

Dad
I’m a knife maker and to see the things you’ve come up with blows my mind! Beautiful work brother!
Me too, but i feel like a caveman watching this guy...
A piece of fine jewelry, in knife form. Beautiful!
I could listen to your Dad voice-overs all day, so relaxing! Incredible build.
Hey thanks Maxime
Dad
Damn it Kyle! Every time I think I have every product that I need you come out with a video with a new product and I am baffled while ordering
That's not a knife, that's a work of art! Best of the best.
Hands down one of the best knife makers in the world.
Hey thanks Daroff
The most beautiful knife i ever saw in my life.
The more I watch your videos, the more I'm convinced you're an artist whose medium is Smithing. These are Art pieces to be handed down generations. Wish I could own one of these.
Truly a Master.
Hey thanks Joseph
Functional Art 👍🏻☕️🔥⚔️
Dad
The best knife maker I’ve ever seen. Beyond perfection
A literal masterpiece art. Probably the most beautiful knife I've EVER seen. Congratulations and thank you for taking us on the tour!
I love seeing the finished product come together- from blocks of metal and carbon fiber to a functional work of art, and the pattern of the Damascus is just plain cool. Great job!
Hello Kyle,
it's done!
It's GREAT!!!
It looks amazing!
Best regards
Holger
My God that is insanely beautiful. The level of painstaking detail and precision is staggering. I'd give myself anxiety attacks if I scratched that piece of art.
Love the work and detailing, and commitment, and skills and attention to detail. Chapeau bas.
Having said all of that not a knife for me.
This guy just created a knife version of Faberge egg.
hands down the coolest knife and cleanest knife ive ever seen
This knife came out absolutely stunning, incredibly well done!
Hey thanks
I've never seen a nicer knife, I can say that with confidence.
I watched all the episodes and my favorite was the last, seeing all that hard work come together to create an absolutely beautiful knife was so satisfying. Kyle your skills and craftsmanship are top notch, can’t wait to see your next project.
Omg! Beyond perfection, Kelly! Your passion of damascus steel, craftsmanship and making artwork of them to blades or swords. Is something can't describe, or no word to say beacuse it's beautiful handmade.😃
Thanks
Kyle, you totally outdid yourself on this one.. One of the, if not THE most beautiful knife I've seen.. that contrast is poppin' !
Well done Kyle. Lots of new stuff that worked out really well together. You are really refining an already epic build quality. The gold plated take down tool is a nice touch too. Great job Dad. All in all, a very stunning knife.
Go Team Royer!
Thanks BeeZo
Dad
The knife is gorgeous! Love all the small details on it. Also Dad and Josh are doing so good! Love your familys work! All the best and keep up the amazing work!
Hey thanks Paul
Thanks for the encouragement. Part of our mission statement is to encourage others.

Dad
I love the jet black hard ware it's beautiful.
re- the carbon fiber handle and inlay- i use to work for an aircraft/fiberglass place that did all kinds of missile tubes and stuff out of very specific carbon fiber layups, some 30+ layers , wound around , or cast into a solid you could machine into- and theres a way to get the carbon in a solid block like that, but also have a resin layer built up over it, to encapsulate the inlay gold, which you could then polish down to the certain size/contours you want for a handle or scales like that, and it might help you out. they routinely do that kind of eh, 'extra resin' layer/buildup on top of the transitions and odd shaped pieces that might have wierd contours, or for the finished surface, so you dont get the steel wool-like fibres right on the top, into somebodys hand, but also dont have to spray or build up another layer of something on top of it. call someplace that does carbon fiber for aerospace and they can probably advise you. for hobbyists, they'd turn up their nose, but show them your 65k swords and stuff, and they'll probably work your stuff in, to diversify if nothing else. and heck, a sheer block of carbon fiber with your specs would be childs play for them to just build up and bake in one of the heated presses alot of them use /shrug. cool stuff mate, love it :D
Hey Kyle, I don't know how you do your coffee darkening, but try saturating your water with the coffee while it's boiling. That will give you a maximum saturation, especially if you use distilled water. To push the boundaries even farther, you can make a pressurized setup to allow for increased pressure while at or near boiling. Then when you submerge the piece and the solution cools, the precipitation of coffee out of solution will be as high as possible. You'd need a vertical tank rather than a horizontal tank though.
I've never done the pressurized approach personally, so that part is theoretical based off water solution dynamics.
But the darkest possible coffee darkening is, as far as I have found, at odds with the optimal blade finish for damascus. If you put an aggressive bead blast onto your blade, then acid dip it, then coffee darken, the surface texture is simply superior to polished surfaces for getting the darkest and most even effect
Finally, if you put your instant coffee into a flour mill in order to make your grinds as fine as possible, you should get improved deposition. The size of the instant coffee stuff, even after being dissolved in water is super coarse compared to flour
Anyway, massive fan. Your level of quality doesn't even seem real. Everything is so close to literally perfect, if you didn't make these videos, I'd be suspicious the results were somehow faked/upped in post. That handle is mind-blowing!!
Every time you make a new blade then that one becomes my favorite. This one is absolutely amazing!
Your knifemaker course is helping me tremendously too. Thanks for sharing!
The whole knife is stunning! I am in love with the carbon fiber handle on this. So cool, it is truly a work of art!
ROYER,YOUR ONE OF THE BEST IVE EVER SEEN MAN,THANKS FOR SHARING WITH US ALL
Thank you for your continued generosity in sharing your processes. I think we all take a more critical view of our own work, but since I didn't make this one I feel free to observe that it is a stunner.
Hey thanks Bryson
Glad you’re here my friend
Dad
Absolute perfection my friend. You do immaculate work!
Thanks JD
I had forgotten to write an observation of how your comment about liking your knife edge to be really shiny, reminded me of a lyric from a favorite song: "We were glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife."
C’mon hold on tight. Meatloaf is a classic. Chao
Dad
Absolutely amazing!!! I'm in love with your blades!! Outstanding and unique masterpiece and craftsmanship!!! Please please please make one about the blueing salts
Kyle, you're an inspiration to all knife makers forger's and any other Smithy's I hope I can be a fraction as good and I would be happy
Thank you for letting everyone share the birth of another great knife
Hey thanks my friend. Go do the same for others in your realm of influence. It’s more fun when we bring people along with us on our journey. Forge on.
Dad
I definitely think you are the best knife maker in the world.. . Youre pieces should be in museums 🙏
Enough to make a grown man cry. Inspiring stuff right here.
Hey thanks
You keep pushing the limits Kyle. You surpass yourself every time you start a new project. Thank you for all of the amazing content.
Wow Kyle!! U are so talented and i enjoy watching u with ur dad. I just lost my Dad and Mom in a short span…now i find myself wanting to call like i use to…take care y’all!
Hey thanks Mike
Sorry to hear about your dad and mom. Glad you’re here with us
Dad
I was glad to see he did the Nickel first. I had something gold plated years ago. It was done onto just polished steel and the rust came through. It took years but it did come through. The stuff I had with nickel on it is shiny to this day. It's been about 22 years now. Awsome knife thanks for sharing 👍.
Hey thanks Garet
Dad
I feel like I am watching one of the great artists of our time. Kyle is truly skilled beyond any I have seen. Family is awesome too, good people. Kyle, Josh, Dad, all talented in their own artistic media. Who else in the Royer family is gonna pop out of the woodwork with some serious skills? 😀
Hey thanks my friend
Cheers
Dad
Kyle you are a really special guy, excellent work and kudos to all your family who help you out!

ABSOLUTELY BONKERS! love this piece of art, its just getting better and better. well done! should be well proud of that Kyle.
That's strange how the gold plating is purple on your swab. Very cool stuff.
Wow, as close to perfection as you can get !! A knife to be truely proud of 👍 Regards from Down Under.
Thanks
Cheers my friend
I know I've said this once or three times lol, but I'd really love to see your take on a Japanese tanto. With your skill in pattern welding and inlaying, I really do think you'd make something truly unique. All of your work is incredible
Hi Kyle am from the UK 🇬🇧 I seen ever knife maker on UA-cam over Last 3years some are very talented

Einfach unfassbar wunderschöne Stücke!!🙂🙂
you have truly outdone yourself, Kyle. I love this.
Hey thanks
Feeling the love my friend
Dad
legend has it that Kyle drinks the coffee after the darkening process to absorb the powers from the knives he makes.
also love that he has started to enchant his knives for extra powers to fend off hagravens, vampires and daedra.
oh please Kyle make a daedra inspired piece!
That blade finish paired with the carbon and gold finish just amazing. What an beautiful piece of art.
Hey thanks
Kyle really sands at 3k grit once everything is finished and uses a file as his sanding stick. one slip and it scratches the blade. Brave
Funny thing. I asked Kyle the same thing. He says it’s dull and I won’t slip. And Kyle doesn’t slip. And I say to my master “Yes sin sai”
Dad
I am totally blown away, that knife is a piece of art and I think is worthy of residing in museum one day! I think the Smith-sonian is appropriate:)
Hey thanks
By far, the best knife making channel on youtube, I feel like unsubbiung from about 50 other channels right now. This is exactaly ways I have always wanted to see.
Hey thanks
Glad you’re here hanging out with us all my friend
Dad
Wow, that's a pure work of functional art! Excellent work!!!
Thanks Jon
Yet again, you amaze us, Royer clan! What a gorgeous piece!
Also - props to dad for that 24k gold plate job. That looks very time consuming and detail oriented!
Thanks Isaac
Dad
This knife is a superior thing in every way - piece of art, stunning tool, glorious element of outfit, effective weapon etc. It has been made in another dimension I would say... I take my hat off to you...
Thanks Goose
The amount of attention and detail you put into your work is amazing.
I enjoyed this lil series
Great job. 👍
Thanks James
@@KyleRoyerKnives no problem 👍👍
Every episode is just great,,
Beautiful beautiful work
Is it just me, or does this shit grow increasingly awesome as we go along?
Been watchinf kyle since the long sword and hes getting much better like i cant even get how can u even be better
Another stunning masterpiece. Well done. Such an inspiring build.
Absolutely beautiful Damascus and craftsmanship! Thank you for the videos you provide us very entertaining to listen to you explain what you do and being able to see it as well!
I would rank this up there with your swords. Stunning quality here! Thanks for the eye candy, and thanks to whole family for all you do in the shop and on the channel! 🍻
Hey thanks my friend
Dad
That pattern is really cool! A lot of really new unique stuff on that build, and was cool seeing your dad helping :D
I'd like to see what you can do with some of the old bluing and coloring techniques. Like the straw components 19th century firearms or heat bluing etc. You have such an eye for perfection, I think you could do a fantastic antique looking blade.
Cool idea
Glad you’re here my friend
Dad
Probably the best Damascus pattern I’ve ever seen absolutely love it I think a kukri done like this would look insane
Absolutely incredible, I love your work.
Such a simple yet elegant blade geometry. It’s sooo good.
Hey thanks
When we think that you cannot get any better... you come up with this fantastic knife.
Congrats!!
That is amazing 👏 🙌
Thanks
That is absolutely stunning work!
The layers of detail work you put into a build is absolutely amazing. There's not a consideration to maximize the quality of your finished product you don't take... simply fantastic. 👍🏻
No words for this masterpiece. Absolutely awesome.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks
Truly phenomenal sir, your pieces will span the ages on museum shelves one day
I just watched a video by Tyrell Knife Works. He was making an "explosion" pattern mosaic Damascus billet. He thanked you by name and advised bladesmiths not to undertake mosaic Damascus without watching your videos first. I thought that was so cool. I dug his pattern.I'd like to see a knife made with that billet. While he makes great looking blades, and I'm a freak for Damascus, the level of craftsmanship in your work is beyond compare, this knife is no exception. I don't know the first thing about smith craft, but I am endlessly fascinated by artistry in whatever medium.
Copy that. The knife community is pretty special. Thanks my friend
Dad
All that said before Mr. Royer, your work is beautiful; your skill and dedication to your craft are exemplary. I wish I could afford one of your knives, alas not! Maybe some day
I'm not sure why you dont have way more subscribers. You have to be one of, If not the best bladesmiths on more than just UA-cam.
Copy that my friend
We don’t either. Be sure to share
Glad you’re here hanging out with us
Dad
Dad, you definitely came in clutch with the gold plated takedown pin! Looks much better gold than it would've with the blued look!
Copy that
We thought the same thing

Beautiful knife, I dig the craftsmanship.

Lucky. Dad always told me “The harder you work the luckier you get “
