Ilya is an absolute master of his craft. The guy has earned his stripes so many times over. Just goes to show what a lot of hard work and dedication can achieve. Bloody well done!
Can’t forget the one time he went on Forged in Fire and destroyed his competition. It was hilarious because the other blacksmiths had no idea who they were facing
Ilya, in all 100% honesty. This is by far the most BEAUTIFUL sword I have ever had the honor of seeing in my life. There is no one that deserved that award more than you. Your dedication to the craftsmanship and the history of swords is what I respect the most about you.
I agree 110%! I'd sit for hours just staring at a bar of that damascus and think it a masterpiece. The finished product is something that I honestly never thought to see, and I am blessed to have seen it.
It is indeed magnificent. Perhaps a bit oddly, it really makes me appreciate the craftsmanship of the ancients - those who created the items found in the Sutton Hoo burial, for example. 1500 years ago, they made items on par with the sword in the video.
I saw the thumbnail and was like "no way that sword looks that good its probably click bait" then I saw Ilya's face and my mind changed to "Ohhhhh yaaaa this is gonna be sick!"
I agree, I honestly don't care as much about the demo part anyway. It's cool to see what the blade can do and all, but I enjoy seeing the creation of the weapon more than seeing what it can do.
@@ThatWorks this work Is stupidly good I still can't believe a single man can have all this skills, I'm out of words to describe this piece, it Is truly Amazing. Again congratulations for all the work, for the prize and for the wonderful project that this channel is
He may not have cut fruit or milk with it, but he literally made the best looking sword in the world for the year 2021. Seriously, you are such an inspiration and a legend!
So much potential lore surrounds this item. The wielder is damned, banished from heaven but incurs the wrath of hell. If this sword was not meant for Dracula it's meant for some sad legendary warrior. This sword belongs in a movie. A good one. It needs to slay something in a fictional sense. I'm glad this sword has never hurt anyone but it has an aura of death! It's so cool! Great job!
The view of the sword blade at 22:30 is amazing, the pattern on the blade is breath taking. In years gone by I was an engraving inspector at the Royal Canadian Mint. There I saw some fantastic engraving. So I can say with some authority that there is very credible work here. Thank you for sharing with us.

"Pure spite." Ilya, you are a genius. Defeat your enemies with succes, or in your case: completely crush, shred and pulverize them with succes. What a masterpiece.
Man, this takes back to when Ilya was on Forged in Fire and they judged his Damascus made of funky scrap metal as having too many impurities. Now he's getting awards for his craftsmanship. You've truly come a long way, man.

Congratulations, that is the Most Beautiful Damascus Sword I've ever seen, de facto, a True King Sword, if the making of the sword was great, the "Historical lecture" was even better, unlike so many UA-cam Channels there is so much more to watch and learn, not only for your awesome skills as a Bladesmith, a Jeweler but also as an Historian, what a delight to watch such video. Thank you for sharing it with us all. Stay safe.
The smithing and design work is one thing, but the intellect, research and knowledge for the concept of the sword is the cherry ontop for me. Amazing work and a fascinating process!

The last seven minutes of this video are one of the most legendary mic-drops ever on UA-cam. Can't even fathom anyone speaking bad about something this friggin' gorgeous.
Ilya you never cease to make me go "wow" - the weld pattern alone in this beautiful blade is art. Then add in the careful engravings and details and it is something that would make any appreciator of beautiful things speechless. Well done sir!
I was just having a conversation with a friend in which I defended sword collecting as one would collect Rembrandts. After awhile I conceded that while I had seen many pretty swords out there, I really didn't know of any Rembrandts of swords. This, sir, is a Rembrandt. My god...
The idea behind, the artistic view, those months of work, the amount of details. This is one o those things you look at, and say holly shit that's amazing. I been following your work for many years. Hope one day I can buy you guys a knife or a sword. Truly a masterpiece. Greetings from Argentina

Thank you for everything.

I’m a massive sucker for Ilya’s long swords with heavy engraving on them. Whether it’s “The Inquisitor”, “Excalibur”, or this newest masterpiece, I regard him as the apex of his craft, and can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
Every now and then I come back to re-watch this to feel inspired. Watching the most impressive sword I've ever seen being made by a true master craftsman and artist just makes me appreciate life more. As stated in the video, this is truly a blade of kings, plural, and I'd almost be afraid to even breathe around it. Truly an incredibly beautiful piece of art.
Man, Ilya, I've seen you make all kinds of interesting and beautiful pieces, but you really outdid yourself this time. This sword is beyond exceptional. It's one thing for a sword to look cool, and it's a whole other thing for it to be beautiful, but it's yet a whole other thing to have a cool sword that looks _so_ beautiful while also physically and visually containing so much of your own personal thought processes, opinions, passions, philosophy, etc. This isn't just a sword of the week, this is a sword of a lifetime. I absolutely love how you went beyond making it look good and went way into applying a philosophy into it, doing things like treating it as a cathedral and designing it as if it were one. These processes add a whole new dimension of beauty to the sword beyond just the raw visuals, and it feels like a privilege to understand some of those aspects on a sword like this. What an absolute masterpiece. Every millimeter is a reflection of your mastery of the art of swordmaking. I hope you're proud of this one and that it feels like more than just another project. All your pieces stand out, but this one is outstanding amongst the outstanding.
Can this thing still be called a sword, a weapon ? I don't think so. I do not spend 5 minutes in a total awe, speachless, totally absorbed by the results video shots. This is not only a piece of art, it is the best combination of painting, drawing, sculpting, forging, blacksmithing, history that could possibly exists, until he does a better one. Thank you Ilia for this gift you offer to the world, and this piece of History you offer to futur generations
I came across this video this morning and sat in amazement watching the sword be born and grow into a magical, yet lethal, piece of artwork! Respect Ilya Alekseyev! Award is truly well deserved - haven't seen any other blacksmith present a piece this beautiful.. Regards, Mark (South Africa)
I am completely geeking out over this video. I was bitching less than two hours ago about other smiths putting in six days straight forging a fancy incredibly intricate pattern welded billet and then putting in no time or effort to forge out the blade. They grind out the whole workpiece with the exception of the pattern welded billet. To only enter it into a contest. What a waste of that beautiful billet. It’s a kin to taking the best cut of beef and making hamburger out of it. Loving your work. The forging of that sword is a thing of beauty. Thank you for sharing and I apologize for my rant.
The fact that this has been designed, draw, forged and sculpted by hand for one simple man, with his bare hands and tools at home is far more than impressive. You sir, are a very talented human being. This is an art masterpiece
It literally brings tears to my eyes at how truly masterful Ilya is at his art I would pledge my life to him to be able to learn just a fraction of his knowledge on this
I'd like to think that the sword would be a Masterwork in terms of graduation in the guild structure. If Ilya wasn't considered a Master then, he would be now. This would be close to his Magnum Opus, if he isn't willing to make something even crazier and more splendid down the line. Literally breathtaking.
In Venetian glass guild he'd be considered a "primo maestro" or Prime master. Artisan factory foreman basically. I would think it would be roughly analagous in a smithing guild. Not sure if any uninterrupted smithing guilds exist in the Slavic world but if any do I would like to ask their thoughts. Ilya is an artist AND a craftsman. He could clearly have any workaday job he pleased or so it seems to me any way. For me as a non guild non European, I'm just happy people buy my Christmas ornaments lol. Ilya has risen far beyond anything I've ever made.

I can see this masterpiece being admired in the future, maybe hundreds of years in the future, in a museum or something alike, this is the most beautiful sword I've ever seen.
amen 🙌
Ilya is the type of man you can respectfully envy. His work will make him immortal.
Needs some blood stains first.
It's an artifact stolen from another world, from a sacred vault.
Vorpal +5 attunement required, on natural 20 critical hits, creatures that are opposing alignment as wielder, must save vs. Death. Failure results in immediate plane shift into Warhammer 40k, DeathWatch, Watch Fortress Erioch, as a hooded, mind-wiped serf that keep the fortress alive and functioning, remembering nothing of their history, and will know no life beyond the fortress and its eternal cleaning and maintenance.
absolutely
I didnt know that watching a video of a sword being made could give me goosebumps. When Ilya lifted that out of the oil I swear I nearly cried. The perfection of the blade alone was something so beautiful I could liken it to my son being born. A selfless and pure work of art I have never seen a sword that awe inspiring. Beautiful work man
I FUCKING CRIED. that was a blessed vision.
I have never mourned the gaze lost on swords in my future before, but all blade die at the thought of their artistry compared to this.
I look at my rapiers and i wish to see them reborn now.
No way you’re comparing the sword to your son being born lmao
What?
Some guys get goosebumps, others get raging erections…
Gay. Ur son disowned u for being so cringe
Art, art history, classics, architecture, medieval religion, philosophy, metallury and exceptional craftsmanship.
I love it when Ilya get academic :)
100%
As an artist my self it blows my mind to see you tell a story through a sword. Now this is what art is supposed to be in its truest form. Translating an idea in its purest form into the material world. That is art
Absolutely beautiful piece and great story altogether as usual mate.
Absolutely fookin loovly specimen of a sword he's got there mate. I am in 100% agreement with you.
Thanks brother !

Thanks for the art of steel
@@محمدعلي-خ1ن4ك This video's about sword-making, bruv.
Not only is Ilya a true master at his craft. He's also a master at articulating his passions through his explanations. He's such a great communicator as well. I could listen to him read the back of a cereal box.
those nutrition facts bout to sound like an epic tail of love lost and the subsequent war for justice!
So... Ilya is an Elven blacksmith. That sure does clear out why he is so good at this....
What would forest folk know about steel
(This is a joke by the way) have you ever heard of elven steel?
Ilya, in all 100% honesty. This is by far the most BEAUTIFUL sword I have ever had the honor of seeing in my life. There is no one that deserved that award more than you. Your dedication to the craftsmanship and the history of swords is what I respect the most about you.
I agree 110%! I'd sit for hours just staring at a bar of that damascus and think it a masterpiece. The finished product is something that I honestly never thought to see, and I am blessed to have seen it.
Quite possibly the most beautiful sword I've ever seen!
It is indeed magnificent.
Perhaps a bit oddly, it really makes me appreciate the craftsmanship of the ancients - those who created the items found in the Sutton Hoo burial, for example. 1500 years ago, they made items on par with the sword in the video.
look up the royer blades
you just have not seen enough of sword. This is NOT the BEST. Period.
Some commenter: Spites Ilya, says he can't do a thing.
Ilya: "Observe."
This whole video is basically a "Behold, for you are wrong! Just watch me make this beautiful sword."
Illya: *TRIGGERED*
"hold my beer"
"Sword like this buys me an entire army " that the most perfect line if I ever heard one to describe such beatifull sword..
I saw the thumbnail and was like "no way that sword looks that good its probably click bait" then I saw Ilya's face and my mind changed to "Ohhhhh yaaaa this is gonna be sick!"
No cutting needed... that might be one of the most impressive pieces of art I've seen.
I agree, I honestly don't care as much about the demo part anyway. It's cool to see what the blade can do and all, but I enjoy seeing the creation of the weapon more than seeing what it can do.
He did an amazing job the craftsmanship of the sword as a whole is beautiful and embodies he artistic will. 10/10 would recommend
Ilya worked super hard on this one! A true original work of art from tip to tip
He cut through the pride of his competitors. Truly the best cutting demo.
How many layers and details are you putting into this piece?
Ilya: "Yes."
I envy the man able to own this sword. And the man able to make it. It feels like a great story that can be appreciated and analyzed a thousand times and you keep seeing new, wonderfully constructed details in it, and don’t ever get bored
With a name like “the heretic” that seems thematically appropriate.
this literally is the IRL version of a legendary weapon in a videogame, something you'd have to fight the hardest of monsters for, which would regain you the reign you once had over the kingdom... this is awesome, I could marvel at this for hours
Nah, this is the one you get after usurping the king or emperor..
Ilya is the embodiment of this A-Team quote
Col. John 'Hannibal' Smith:
Give me a minute, I'm good. Give me an hour, I'm great. Give me six months, I'm unbeatable.
Right!? Ilya is the fuckin man
Ilya was great before he got on forged in fire. But I agree his skills have grown
That is by far the best piece of art, engineering and philosophy I have ever seen.
Stay safe.
I’ve never seen an actual masterpiece being made start to finish. Seriously well done. Congrats on the recognition.
The highest quality most effort build that turned out to be exactly of the quality we did expect.. that's my boy Illya!
The smithing and design work is one thing, but the intellect, research and knowledge for the concept of the sword is the cherry ontop for me. Amazing work and a fascinating process!
This is hands down the most beautiful sword I’ve ever seen in my lifetime and I highly doubt that I will ever see another like it. This is incredible work, the craftsmanship and knowledge behind it is fitting of a monarch, well done Ilya!
"Complex mosaic domascus"
Illya: it's not that complex.
LMAO that flex
"...let me show you what a complex pattern really looks like." :D
"hold my vodka"
The last seven minutes of this video are one of the most legendary mic-drops ever on UA-cam.
Can't even fathom anyone speaking bad about something this friggin' gorgeous.
Ilya you never cease to make me go "wow" - the weld pattern alone in this beautiful blade is art. Then add in the careful engravings and details and it is something that would make any appreciator of beautiful things speechless. Well done sir!
Well that's the finest piece of work I've ever seen created, with a thoughtful description to fit.
The story of those panels blew my mind! Ilya is truly a legend!
Actually forging out the guard and pommel rather than cutting it out with a grinder?! I always watch forging videos and very rarely see this and every time i do i know i'm watching a true craftsman. While i can appreciate that we have all of the modern tools, i love seeing true blacksmithing like what you've done here. Awesome work and you've got my sub for that one!
Ilya, I have been inspired by you for years, and finally at 30 years old just got my first forge and can finally put all my theoretical knowledge to use. Watching, learning how you conceptualized this piece and integrated everything top to bottom, every minute detail, and even the intellectual labor to design something completely new....I'm just so blown away by what you've done. Thank you for everything.
I appreciate this. We need more Blacksmiths in this world. A Weapon never betrays you. Are you still working on your skills?
@@crestfallenwarrior5719 I've been running into a bunch of logistical issues in setting up my forge. Slowly but surely, though, I'll be ready to dive in again.

Thank you for documenting the process of this build. It's absolutely one of the most beautiful blades I've ever seen, and that includes historical examples!
I’m a massive sucker for Ilya’s long swords with heavy engraving on them. Whether it’s “The Inquisitor”, “Excalibur”, or this newest masterpiece, I regard him as the apex of his craft, and can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
You’re a massive sucker for ilya‘s long sword???🤔😂😂😂😂
@@eazy-e9893 In retrospect, I would have phrased it differently; but I stand by the original sentiment, innuendo or not.
Best part in the Demo was him cutting through the Competition so seamlessly.
There you go!
I could watch him engraving all day he's so incredibly fucking talented.
Engraving Jesus is the best :D
I know, he makes it look so effortless.
I shed a tear at 22:00 that is the moment you realize you’re watching something happen that simply doesn’t exist anywhere else on the planet.
This is truly the most beautifull sword i've seen being created.
So much crafsmanship and details, amazing!
Ilya is really one of the best out there.
This is an art masterpiece
bare hands and tools at home :D :D :D :D
That is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful objects I’ve ever seen-both in conception and construction. You are an exception artist, sir.
It literally brings tears to my eyes at how truly masterful Ilya is at his art I would pledge my life to him to be able to learn just a fraction of his knowledge on this
Let none say that that this did *not* deserve the award it got. Amazing work Ilya
Always be willing to go above and beyond what you know or think you can do. It's the most important aspect to grow
Ilya,... breath officially taken. You sir, are a true warrior-philosopher. Congratulations on the well deserved win.
Hands down the most beautiful sword ever created. You've outdone yourself on a level i didnt think was possible!

@@neverseemstoAsh yes, the shape is normal. But it's so intricately worked on that some people might be afraid of damaging it in a duel. I personally find nothing of that as you wouldn't use this as your main sword (side arm) in battle anyway.

really most beautiful? it looks fine but not that beautiful like this sword would be one of the greatest art of human history.
This is really something worth seeing. The synthesis of an entire tradition and its passage through time to the present day printed on steel, without losing its essence.
