Got The Streets clipper tattooed on back of my hand. Lived the life of original pirate material at the time it was released. Followed your music ever since. Respect 😁
I know it's annoying when people say this, and I say it with respect, but I really prefer your old stuff. These stream of consciousness lyrics are maybe clever but feel a bit opaque at times, kind of like just listening to a stream of unmemorable words and sounds, and a lot of the tracks kind of blur into one. The track I've enjoyed most from the recent projects has been Falling Down, I really love that song. It felt like it had a much more tangible feeling to it, and the lyrics were relatable and inspiring. Some of the other ones just sort of feel like random musings. Empty Cans is another example of a song where you'd have to be deaf to miss the message of it. But it's an incredible song, one of the best ever written in my opinion. I don't think there's anything wrong with writing stuff that's broad and accessible tbh, and in my humble opinion it's what you excel at.
Mike I've been a fan of yours since original pirate material since back in 2000 and I'm American I always wanted a autograph or a clipler lighter can we find a way to make that happen please
" Die and deserve it or fight and surf back, I'm nobody but nobody's perfect, i feel like when you do a good job in an argument, but it go's too well and she ends up sobbing in the garden " Pure unrelenting fire, seriously masterfully resonant
As much as I love the streets I wish you'd use the quality mic for the flows the entire songs... not just the ends of verses before the hook. Br1o you've sold the underground for years the 25K watching this video are here... now lets up that dope verse quality for every word and keep pushing things forward
Sometimes the spirit wanes and the form appears, sometimes the pretence burns away. I believe this sound is not a drop off in quality, but an aesthetic without regard for commercialism. Not a commercialised stance of anti-commercialism but an actual disregard for it. All the movements or any value have this quality. It's not about rebelling and wearing a mohawk, it's about the spirit of negation. It grants permission to those without popular taste, technical virtuosity, physical attractiveness, youthful energy or just plain social appeal a chance to capture the human condition and console those also broken by life. I don't think that's the intention, I think that's the purpose and probably one long denied. For years we have been hitting the wall, trying to survive and find meaning in a world only interested in itself, while simultaneously getting caught up within it ourselves due to the increasing demands of our material realm. We tried everything except the things we most overlooked from the start. It takes a certain amount of reckless virtue to forego what used to work and isn't working anymore in order to at least replenish the soil. Maybe that's what faith is? I need to see normal people, who age and struggle and fall short during the middle of the game still show up and do the work, especially in art. It's the kind of art that will get us through this endlessly boring and arduous stage of life we are all sharing at present. Simple anti-pop isn't a sharp enough scalpel anymore to address the problem. It will and always will become something fed into the same machine and sold to us again. There needs to be something of a monastic quality to address the darkness of our age. It's not sexy and it won't be ever again. It's about uprooting the emptiness of what we planted in our ignorance in order to unearth the love we were too cowardly to live out from our youth. Life isn't over, so don't despair. Life is just under all the garbage we mistakenly collected. What does bravery really look like in this world?

Gotta say that was one of the most depressing songs I have heard in a long while!! Yeah I’m nobody and Nobody is perfect is clever but it’s hardly the first time I’ve heard it said. Watch the film with Jonny Depp called Dead Man if you want a good movie and to understand the nobody is perfect idea. Good luck to the Streets it’s nice to see them back but not with this song ✌🏼🙂&✊🏼
I hear this and I don't give a f anymore if the cops roll up on my ridiculous life at the edge of city park in New Orleans. That's the power of music. I love you for the inspiration bruv. I'll get mine done no matter how long it takes. For f's sakes. Stay Real Kid. One ~~
Love this song 🔥🔥🔥 gives me ‘everything is borrowed’ albums vibe. Big thanks to The Streets, Mike Skinner and everyone that make this sound possible 🙏😎👍
It is awesome as always. And it is clearly visible that many people work on the songs at least as vocals. What bothers me is why you do not give credits to everyone involved? Or it is just me who doesn't see it? Greetings and keep the amazing work!
Mike is incredible. I could tell so many stories as a fan from the usa for the last 20 years but who'd give a fuck? I'll die for my beliefs and still be wrong ❤️ fucking love you Mike, another banger

Mike Skinner is reaching serious OG status. Over two decades in and he still has that fresh underground energy. Legend.
These new songs are nothing on the older stuff though, not really feeling them myself

I've missed this sound. My day was shit, now it's good. Much appreciated, Mr. Skinner.

@AliMcClellan Properly
“Wordsmith” gets thrown around a lot but this actually justifies the term
"I'm nobody, but nobody's perfect." - love that line.

“Dry your eyes mate” great bit of music and he’s a wordsmith. Nice vocal sample if it is 👍🏽

text: Mike Skinner
THE STREETS: BRIGHT SUNNY DAY
.....
I can see another bright, sunny day
Without me in it
Never get to overhear two folk talk
And mentally give them my own two thoughts
I'll never have my phone die in an open space
And not know what to do
with the emotions on my face
Never again I'll read those books, I'll never read
I'll never again water the dead flowers in my house
Sometimes your attitude's your only limit
Sometimes you're the statue,
but mostly you're the pigeon
I got greedy with the talkin',
should've gave a little listen
But that's like a toilet
complaining about pissin'
I'll get no grave but the sea
I wish a pauper's grave
No eulogy, just the "for fuck's sake"
I'll never stand and skim stones
into a lake and wonder
Whether one day there'll be none left
'cause they're all in the lake
Bad things after, happen on a roll
The world gave me its phone
to look at just one photo
But I had to have a scroll
I can see another bright, sunny day
Without me in it
Die and deserve it or fight and serve back
I'm nobody, but nobody's perfect
I feel like when you do a good job
in an argument but it goes too well
and she ends up sobbin' in the garden
God, when I'm in shit, that's when I need Him
But I'm supposed to be an atheist, where do I begin?
They're all atheists, they all agree
But which god is it that you don't believe in?
I can see another bright, sunny day
Without me in it
Never get to attempt to steal my head
To write the perfect drunk text that I will regret
Trust your dog to always mind your house
But never trust your dog to ever mind a meal
Before he turns around three times
before he lies down
I'm too old for this shit, kill me while I'm young
I'll die for my beliefs and I'll still be wrong
I'll never again see the evening sun go orange
Never get to overhear two folk talk
And mentally give them my own two thoughts
I'll never have my phone die in an open space
And not know what to do
with the emotions on my face
I can see another bright, sunny day
Without me in it
I can see another bright and sunny day
Without me in it
ah man i didnt like it, i love your older stuff, it lacked the egg, didnt bind very well
I like the video cinematography mixed with Mike’s somber tone, for me shows the state of this country and just how bad it’s gotten.
