Lyrics:
Lazy lurking nursing my health
With the grape juice working cursing the never
There are crazy turns as you work through the present
Is it nature or nurture when you hurt your bredrens
We pray in church for our personal heaven
But your mates are searching to work to help you
Hating work and turning up forever
Doing waste man work only works for the devil
There are some that swim in
Swim In troubled Waters
I swim in troubled waters
Cos my enemies can’t swim
There are some that swim in
Swim In troubled Waters
I swim in troubled waters
Cos my enemies can’t swim
Why is it busy at 3 in the dark
Ride into the shit what will be will be hard
What have we gone and started
Why aren’t they all asleep in their cars
They whine and they beep beep
They beep and they bark
Should be dialling their dealer, to re up the party
Strife’s inexpensive, It’s cheap to get scarred
This night is Disney, the B movie started
If everyone could just mind their own business
And be who they are
It’s part of human nature to hate the man you’ve hurt
You don’t have to face up to how you ran him dirty
Start to do my pace up to fast and further
Gun metal buildings, their ambers burn
There are some that swim in
Swim In troubled waters
I swim in troubled waters
Cos my enemies can’t swim
There are some that swim in
Swim In troubled Waters
I swim in troubled waters
Cos my enemies can’t swim
It’s part of human nature to hate the man you’ve hurt
You don’t have to face up to how you ran him dirty
Definitely maybe this is based on truth
Salt and vinegar’s the best flavour of rude
you say unseasoned chicken really ain’t for you
Do you hate it or you read a page of reviews.
Either get to know friends and let them change you
But before you put the salt on you taste the food
There are some that swim in
Swim In troubled Waters
I swim in troubled waters
Cos my enemies can’t swim
There are some that swim in
Swim In troubled Waters
I swim in troubled waters
There are some that swim in
Swim In troubled Waters
I swim in troubled waters
Cos my enemies can’t swim
There are some that swim in
Swim In troubled Waters
I swim in troubled waters
Cos my enemies can’t swim
It’s part of human nature to hate the man you’ve hurt
You don’t have to face up to how you ran him dirty
i start to do my pace up to fast and further
Gun metal buildings their ambers burn
Stride past the fighting and try to go it new
Do the right thing our hearts going spare
Outside of the nightclub I don’t know what to do
Inside of the nightclub it’s too dark to care

One of UKs finest, goosebumps hearing you back at it!!
Yo what's up
Yep❤
Thank you for sharing this art with us, Ren! Yes, true art.
❤❤❤❤
Thanks Ren for for letting us know, I love his intellect. I can see how he influenced you. He's deep🤙✌️🙏
I feel sorry for people who didn’t grow up listening to the streets, what a an absolute legend mike is.
Ditto mike skinner total legend 🎉🎉🎉
I grew up with The streets and i am 30 years old Romanian (not gypsy) i have lived in London for 7 years and i am home since 2019 because i've met the girl who is now my wife. i still love London and it's freedom and The streets gets me back to the London's streets everytime i listen it. Love you all and peace from Bucharest
Free tate
Mike Skinner will probably never get his props for how amazing his lyrics are. His music has helped me navigate some of the darkest parts of my life
Feel this. The streets have been the soundtrack to my life. 😂 mad how good Mike skinner is.
Empty Cans dragged me back a few times
@@alecmacknight difficult times freestyle, the escapist, never went to church, turn the page, it’s to late, the list goes on my man!
@@alecmacknight empty cans, unreal by the way!
Bro same, grand don't come for free was on repeat when it came out.
Brings back that Blinded by the Lights” vibes , fucking love it . First heard these guys when I was somewhere around the age of 13-16 living in England as a kid of military parents . Anyways feel grateful to have been influenced by Mike and The Streets , god bless ✌️
I was gbba say reminds me of blinded by the lights still a big tune
He was the voice of a generation
@@arostwocents HE iS
Blinded by the lights, banger full dnb finish.. 😅😂 ua-cam.com/video/serCSxkjQOA/v-deo.html enjoy
It's already out 😂😂😂😂
It's so refreshing to see an OG still dropping original bangers
100%
Feck Drill, Mike for the win
i make anthems not bangers
This fellow has an amazing talent for capturing and crystallizing what's left of English culture.
With the fear of sounding like partridge...what a lovely turn of phrase
What's left and what's new, just like Mike to make us feel like this amazing shit
You might wanna check out @renmakesmusic
Keep it alive folks
English culture hasn’t gone anywhere 🤦🏻♂️ stop listening to the BBC and get out into the world and you’ll see for yourself
Mikey’s still got it 20 years later. I 1st heard his music when I was in my mid to late 30’s. 58 now. Still diggin’ it.
Dang time flies. I was early teens and me and my friendship group at the time used to listen to the streets in our early teens. Now at 35 it hits kind of different
@@MrAlio101definitely hits different bro
@@MrAlio101I was 8 when original pirate material came out, my old man bought the album even though hes an old rocker he liked the streets because it was something different. I'm 30 now and re introduced him to this yesterday, brought back the memories me and my 60yearold dad blasting it out my car now bopping along 😂
Same 🤓
Dammm you're old as hell
This sounds precisely what I would ever hope a streets comeback would sound like. Original, new and emotional. Big tune !
“Would ever Hope a streets!!!!!”
Respect from Russia Crimea!!
This song is awesome!!!
@@kavkazgoris there's no such thing as Russia Crimea
The nostalgia is strong in this tune!! Awesome to see The Streets back with an instant classic!
The Force too

He's on it again, this is wicked Mike, I love it.
He’s a legend, but why does he sound like he’s on the spectrum reading abit of paper

@@Slap_s9175man gets it
@@ashwalshe3867you don’t get it
@@ashwalshe3867you call him a legend then say he’s on the spectrum? He’s always sounded like this and you call him a legend? Bit of a weird comment don’t you think?
I LOVE THIS!! I feel like I’m 22 again listening to the lyrical genius that is Original Pirate Material. Cheers for this.
I'm a 53 year old lady AND I appreciated you guys ever since the first track I heard, "Original Pirate Material". I may be an oldie but I LOVE so many of your tracks because they are genius and truly, there is so much truth and soul in the lyrics. Love this track... keep on doing your thing fellas... Many thanks and big hugs xx
i wish i was 22 again. ashamed to say i was 40 a month ago, still Mike dropping bombs.
@@mattg768 I’m 43 mate so you’re still a spring chicken! I’m still going to gigs, raves and festivals 🤣🤦🏼♀️
@@samanthafox2664 what a banger of a tune this is, btw, had a crush on you in the 80s sam😅
@@markt5703 I suspect you had a crush on the page 3 model/singer (who is actually very slightly older than me - but much more beautiful). 🤗
This manages to capture such a nostalgic yet new feeling. It's hard to explain, but I am hyped for your new album!
the sound of The Streets
Can't wait for 20th October
This hits hard. Mike has always taken people on a journey representing where he is, and this does not let down.
You said it best.
I'm a dumb kid from a council estate that did OK. Mike is my General. He's a poet for people that think poetry is wankerish.
I grew up on original pirate material it’s a shame some of my mates from growing up ain’t here to hear this song miss ya Jim
My too 😁
One of the best musical story tellers we’ve ever had.
Hearing the opening lines took me all the way to being 19 again, the goosebumps were crazy.
The best story teller period mate, in my eyes no one comes close
Bruh it's happening to me right now
@@danoconnell994check out chester P the authorship or greatest story never told. Chester is one of the best uk storytelling rappers
You know its special when you get goosebumps on second listen, like it's one of your all time classics you've not heard in a while.
God hearing his voice makes me think of all them messy teenage nights....god Mike we missed you 😅
This poetry is there to be admired. Already noticed it in the collab with Fred again.
Like everybody says: you still got it man, what a comeback you're making!
It's not really a comeback. He has been making music since the streets stopped. My favourite was the D.O.T. great music with Robert Harvey.
@@teambeanabsolutely loved The D.O.T - its surprising how many Skinner 'fans' aren't aware of it.
@@powderedground78 you hit the nail on the head there bro.
@@powderedground78theres more aware of it, imo it was the change in style. I liked some of the D.O.T music but just couldn't feel the vibe of the old streets music, the man himself has said the same thing in an interview (it's on youtube somewhere) that's1 of the reasons why hes brought the streets back
I didnt really enjoy the DOT but He released alot of songs in 2017 under the name "The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light" and an album titled "The Streets" under that name in 2021 and I really love the vibe of those songs, it's like The Streets but more melodic
This song should be huge, I think if everyone who used to like the streets realised this was out it would be number 1.
FINALLY!!! Only took 15 years to get back to that sound!!!!!
It’s certainly been a long road!
Mike Skinner strikes again, 15 years later still got it perfect rhythm , Birmingham lad through and through
Reminds me of the older dayz...another great banger 🔥🔥🔥🔥
This put the biggest smile on my face. Skinners still got that same great flow. Brought back memories of constantly listening to the first two albums. Buzzing.
Love it
Goosebumps everytime i listen to this ..been waitin years for this lyrical genius to come back .. love this track
he went from writing about the song that remind me of those times
to writing the songs that are going to become those times
hrmm
If this is a snippet of what’s to come from the album then I’m here for it. For 3 minutes I was a teenager again getting ready for the weekends shenanigans.
"That's it that's it that's it"! ☝️❤️🔥
This feels like '02 Streets, and then an unexpected dnb beat kicks in. Always full of surprises and why I'll always love The Streets. Thank you for this!
You all have forgotten what OPM and AGDCFF sounded like
Although it's human nature to hate the man you hurt is a good line
Definitely 02 vibes. For a minute I forgot I was a proper grown up 😅
The honesty and heart in your words make this not the epitome of the true nature of music but allows all to relate on some level or try to interpret your state. God bless. What a blessing to see you're all back at it.
Mike Skinner, the man, the myth...the legend! Nearly 20 years later the mad lad had done it again!
Mike's back with an absolute gem, one of the best songs of the year .
unfortunately, any new listeners today will never understand how legendary the streets was
Big Mike still giving us the good stuff after 20+ years. Cheers man 👍
❤
Mike you're the voice to our generation!
The streets were not requested for. Jesus Christ got this. In Jesus Christs name we pray amen.
Listening to this is like going back in time, instantly got that warm feeling I did way back when listening to OPM and a grand don't come for free, I'm 38 now but took me back to being a teenager, don't see some of those friends at the time anymore, still see others but made me think of great times and great memories. Nice 1 Mike hope the rest of the album has got the same feel. PEACE
Mike Skinner thank you for being you… One of the all time greats 👌🏻 Your music and art of storytelling through song takes me literally to a different place… a little escape from reality for the duration of your songs 💚💚💚 please don’t ever stop making music
This is the sort of track that you could have put out back during the time a grand don't come for free was released. Be great if the new album has a story running through it like that album.
Mike should get some sort of cultural award dont like all his stuff but hes someone who should be considered for his special genre and life affecting music and words.
I think the Blinded by the lights will always be the streets best song. BUT with that said the vibe from this is also euphoric. Id love to hear this at a festival or similar setting. Another master piece either way.
how did i miss this tune welcome back mike
There’s hope… man this guy takes me back. Dry your eyes still feels like yesterday! Never felt this nostalgic
Started to listen many many years ago not even understanding English, but kind of feeling the soul of your music.
There were tough times and then I returned back to your old songs again and again and again to heal myself and return back to life. I'm glad you are back, I missed you.
Thank you, Mike.
The lyrics, the soundtrack, the cinematics. Everybody involved did such an oustanding job 🖤 Thank you
Its fascinating how Mikey and the Streets can make a new track sound like a classic the first time you heard it. Just incredible, thank you.
What a tune! Didn’t expect that dnb drop 🙌 well done Mr Skinner!!
It’s a good drop! 🙌🏼🏋️♂️
This beat is EPIC
3:16 from here on is a masterpiece

The streets don’t get the props they deserve. Pure class. Keep on Mike glad you back with a banger. One love ❤️
Dropping another banger all these years on! What a legend 😎
Absolute legend, still got it
The Streets, Sleaford Mods....these artists have paved the way and still produce original touching music that ignites the youth that so many of us have buried and slapped down because society needs us to be compliant. great song, great lyrics, good vibe. Thank you for keeping the me of 30 years ago relevent and valid.
Can see the bumbles dropping to this woiiiii oiiiii commmmooonnn
The more I listen to this track, the more I am loving it!
The end of leg doesn’t even come close! One of the best creative musicians to come out of the uk in my time!
Loving it cant beat the sound of the streets

Mike I pray you find peace in the Lord. Thank you brother for the memories.
Mike, this is everything we wanted and needed, an absolute classic. Thank you. Legend.

Honest, words that make you change your perspective .
Love it! That drop was fantastic. Well done Mike!
That bottom end! 🔥 🔥
He's still got it!! Greeting from Poland lads!!!!!🎉
Made a 44 year old man move! Love it! Thank you Mike!✌🏻
I went to the beach today. On the way back discovered that you came back with new music few years ago. Haven't heard from you for too long. I will loop all you recent pieces in the following days. Seems like I missed a lot. Thanks mate. Greetings from China.
The people's poet produces another thought-provoker! Effortlessly swimming against the mainstream. 👍🇬🇧
I'm 34 now and so fucking happy your bringing these tunes back we've lost music the past 15 years. Your a legend 🙌
Always so fresh. Always on point with life stories. It's amazing when you mix a banging tune with a not so happy story, it can make you love it more. light and dark at its finest.
Still listen to "edge of a cliff" and "we never went to church" weekly. This os deffenitey going to be added to the mix.
That drop was expect and well received
"Outside of the nightclub, I don't know what to do. Inside the nightclub, it's too dark to care!" The Streets are back 🙌 So good 👌
What I love about Mike is he is just him, no bullshit from day one
Who would have thought that 22 years later Mike would be still dropping tunes. Anyone here from Streets forum circa 2001? I was The Stiks.
I was at school when this man come out I was 14 when he did. Now I'm 35 and he still smashing it
I was in my 20s now I'm 51..😂 Still loving the streets.. 🎉❤
Great to hear that voice again 🙏🏻
Mike breathing life into the rundown UK, keep bringing us reasons to believe bro
Fr ❤
This song is my therapy at the moment. Can't wait to hear the new album. You're the man Mike.
I love this song too brother, brings back a lot of happy memories.
Proper talent! There are very few geniuses in music - Mike you're in an elite group!
I saw them live in Brighton on Friday they still sound the same as they did all those years ago
Mike Skinner is exceptionally talented, down to earth and articulate. He's able to articulate great humour and the depths of hell & struggles- that's talent.
This song/video hits different if you watch it right after the “Weak Become Heroes” video. He lived long enough to be the old guy at the club, which is both sad and happy at the same time.
fucking WEIRD too think i've been listening to this guy for over 20 years and he's STILL dropping bangers that resonate massively. He's right up there with Moby & Red Hot Chilli Peppers. There's not many that can do it as this level for over two decades. MAD PROPS!
All Love bro - Thanks for the memories!
Same , never gets old 🤟
Chilli peppers 😂😂 behave
@@purplerayn6 wdym behave?🤣 I’m talking from a personal level.. me personally I have very few artists who I’ve listened to from a child until now… shit gets old, people stop progressing. Chilli peppers sound the same. The streets change and bang without fail.
Lol didn’t see the chilli peppers coming lol
This makes me happy I stuck around. You got me through dark times and you're back like my black dog darkness is the black bat light. Cheers brother.
That DnB drop gave me goosebumps… loved every second of this
Who's got the bag tho. ☮️
Just when I thought you wouldn't come back there you are my friend
Wow, blinded by the lights vibes. LOVE IT!!
All his tracks are poetry
i love how this song is an evolution from Broken Hearted in the sun. The darker the shadow, the brighter the light.
Stay strong people 💪
You've made this middle aged man feel nostalgia, thank you for that!
Great tune...🙏👍
I love your music man, long time fan, love from germany!
This dude is genuinely one of the best songwriters we've had in this country, lyrical genius. We love you Mike.
Thank you Mike for being incredible artist!
Sitting down listening too this drinking a Kopparberg, Mike Skinner is a Legend!!
Sick bro!!! Timeless talent!! Forever relevant music!!
Nice to see you back, Mr. Skinner.
Not a scary place Mike.... when you see tins of Farrow & Ball paint there in the basement.... unless some thug is behind you with a finishing brush... 😅😂🤣
Blinded by the lights 2023 version. What a tuuuune
❤I disagree with a young Mike… We are indeed getting both Bangers & Anthems! Keep up the great work🙌🏻🎙️🎶
I came here by recommendation of REN. First time hearing this artist. I love it! I really love the thoughtful lyrics. Thank you REN for a solid recommendation.
Weak become heroes, fit but you know it, push things forward,.... Too many bangers to mention
