The reason you are struggling with R-60M lock is that they only have a narrow field of view. The HMS works everywhere you look and doesn't indicate when you are outside the seeker view.
Normaly the HMS show when you're outside of the gimbal limit but gaijin didn't model it
@@_xSneaXx_ since the radar isn’t finished. R73 removed at the last minute. I don’t think gaijin even bothers to model it

@@numbawan9527 Honestly not showing the gimbal limits doesn't bother me but I really want Gaijin to model Missile warning system for Gen 4. At my knowledge, F-16/F-14/MiG-29/Mirage 2000/Tornado have MWS
@@numbawan9527he MiG 29’s win rate is pretty bad right now so gaijin may add it back. If they do they should nerf the IRCCM or at least make it on par with the aim-9L. HMD isn’t really useful in sim with the r60M
I fell in love with the MiG 29, despite its radar limitations and r60m’s small bore it’s still very lethal. Gaijin did add the r27ER which is the best fox 1 in the game currently. I no longer play the MiG 29 in air rb because of obvious reasons. Sim top tier is soo fun especially playing with the bros.
Once you learn the new radar modes the 29 is truly menacing.

What are the obvious reasons?
19:00 look at the left side of the HUD. These two green boxes indicate max and min range and the arrow shows where you are (just like lines on radar HUD)
on the right of the radar also. long line and short line
I’ve played 10 sim games in the 29 on patch day. I struggled to get people on TWS somehow in my hid the targets kept flopping back and forth, R27R’s are fairly decent but the range is short. R27T’s max effective range is about 8KM. HMD is great but if you’re gonna use it with the r60m’s make sure you try to get within 25 degree angle of the target or try to lock / fire from their blind spot. That plane drinks fuel too.

@@zimot with the 27ER being introduced and slight improvements to the radar at least in sim it holds up fairly good. If you master when and when not to use HDN / All aspect TWS / PD then you’ll be an absolute menace BUT you’ll probably be out numbered because people are spamming the f16 more in sim
HMD? Do you mean HDN which is what was showing on the radar?
I just purchased the Russian Mig 23 package and the MB5. Buying the MB5 is your fault. Watching how you fly the MB5 inspired me to purchase it.
The Mig-29M was the first version to have fly-by-wire, that will probably come at some point

Rather than using an additional controller for the radar slew - do you have any HAT switches on your stick?
Because you could just use that, and if it’s already in use, set it to a throttle button /and/ your stick input to avoid double binding.
Also, the radar elevation thing; you said it moved on its own - it’ll always try to point on the same horizontal plane as you set it to, so if you pull up, it’ll move down. If you nose down it’ll point up.

Tbh, for BVR i'm more hype with the TWS + R27T combo since you don't need to hard lock to slave an IR seaker.
HMD and R-73 was built with eachother in mind so the R60 doesn't work well with it is understandable. The R73 have massive gimbal limit on it seeker and also very high G load + thrust vectoring so you can actually hit what you're looking at in a dog fight.
the tws doesnt work that great for slaving, its too inaccurate and it also overrides your hmd so you have to turn off tws in order to stop it from slaving your missile at nothing

I think when you're trying to lock people with the R-60's using the HMD, you're consistently just a little outside of gimble range. R-60's max uncage is only 17 degrees after all. Try using it for fine tune a little closer to boresight

Toastman get good HOTAS and you will have small mushroom buttons on it that will allow you to control manual radar without removing hand from throttle

Not sure if you are aware of this or not, just gonna drop it anyway.
Don't use R-60s on enemies that are above 1000kmh fast and further than 2,5km far away from you.. R-60 won't be able to catch up in most cases.
"Special" ability the Mig-29 got with the Radar, when you move it to the left and right, that is pretty much 45° to the left and 45° to the right.. you can track really far off to the side.
Mig-29 can pull absolute insane G's, in a 700-800kmh dogfight you can turn for years without passing out if you got your crew skilled and plane modified.

funnily enough i believe the hmd should only work for the radar and ir, not the missiles, and you just hard lock them when you look at them so you dont have to perfectly keep your eyes on them. ah well, at least we got the hmd at all.
ive got an x56 rhino hotas for my flight sims, it was absolute overkill for war thunder but now that theyve added all these radar binds its really starting to pay off

Deflection override isn’t quite the same as the FCSL override that the su27 had. The early mig29’s were not capable of doing the cobra maneuver like the flanker could

I love the plane but something went HORRIBLY wrong when programming the radar, it just doesnt work. It truly feels like a mistake from Gaijin and I hope they can fix that. Right now the mig29 isnt really performing like it should.

@@CptToastman in the last two days something changed tho, now the radar seems to be working fine. They did some stealth update again, also because they fixed another bug that I had that was makin the mirrors inside the cockpit appear plain white.
Everything nice and all. But why MIG29 is the only plane with "Cannons on air target" mode for sight?

Because most other planes already have a gyro/radar gunsight and Mig-29 in game for some reason did not receive one, so they decided to go with the funnel.
@@mathiasjensenlarsen2536 mig29 is probably not the most modern plane in game. And snail did not gave a damn when EJ kai or 37C were released and they had no fumel or anything.

i searched for any and all of those words and there is no such setting in mine
I have only one problem because when I start to rotate vertically in the axis of the plane, it starts to return me to the basic position.
This might sound very dumb, but I've been flying the mig 29 in 7 matches so far. What keybind is it to have the gun aim guide (I dont know what its called) for when I'm in a close dogfight?
"Switch sight mode in cockpit" toggles all your hud modes. :)

Is there a link to your controls setup cause I'm having trouble with moving the radar search zone and manually choosing who to lock. Also how do I make the radar screen look like the box you have right now rather than like a piece of pie?

looks a lot more fun than air RB, would love to play it, a proper air sim setup would make it a lot better but i don't have
that and actually having high tier jets, more than 4 years and i'm still only up to sabres in US tree and even less in other trees, i'm not good at these early jets and coupled with the terrible rewards i can't progress much further, maybe next anniversary i'll get to sell my MiG-23MF coupon and actually get a rank 5 premium

WT radar is so simple that it becomes a bad thing...at this point gaijin should already add the propper radar for each 4gen at least...

I'm not on the game at the moment but I think it's called something like "SAS" It's the same button that the helicopters use.

Its not that possible, since the aircraft isn't so good at it IRL.
Yes the aircraft is unstable in performance, but it doesn't do cobras well like the Su-27 does.

Boats and tanks are a separate game modes that you don't have to play. You can only play choppers in tank games at moment but there is a PVE game mode for them too. I play SB mode in Enduring Confrontation, this mode only has planes.
You can buy Premium vehicles but they are expensive.
