The Fall sounds so unique,I'm glad my old brother introduced me to them back in the 90s ..great band!
Wonder if your brother also introduced me to them ?
Well, whoever it was, thanks to them :)
There is nothing like The Fall. nothing in this universe.
Same here 🤗
My granny played bongos for this band.
And what did they think of that? "Oi geezer get out the way, we're trying to hit the norf can't ya see I'M TOTALLY WIRED"
dogchaser520 👌
Mine was their roadie..!
@@dogchaser520 *git aart tha fakkin whiy!
For all I know, I might have played in the Fall at some point. So have 80,000 other people
Great song, like the light shining on Birmingham towards the end, we’re midlanders but definitely feel more northern than southern personally.
Some of us Midlanders feel like Midlanders.
@@jasongray4517Some of us Midlanders feel like northern Midlanders from the Midlands.
@@KimiMD And this Midlander feels like an East Midlander from the Midlands.
@jasongray4517 So you don't feel like a Midlander from the Midlands? You in fact feel like a East Midlander from the Midlands. Not as previously written, a Midlander from the Midlands, is this correct?
RIP M.E.S. Seeing this performed in The Palace Nightclub, Blackpool one of the most bizarre experiences ever. Thanx for the music x
I first heard the Fall in the 70s when John Peel started playing their music. Thank you JP.
And you can still listen to this pile of shit? You need to get out more. The Fall was not a band, it was a drinking club run by a dull bully, who could not sing, surrounded by sycophants who could not play cards let alone a musical instrument.
You and me both mate thank you John peel
RIP. I think Mark E Smith has literally hit the north now. Way up there...
Matthew M I love that his relationship to his 'northern-ness' was both celebratory and difficult. But, aside from all that, we won't see his like again.
pablozewoppa Ever. And that's sad. Saw him in nov in Glasgow. Fantastic.
Clair Duffy Saw him at the last gig at the Hammersmith Palais, 2007. I managed to lean over and shake his hand. Very unusual for MES to be pressing the flesh with the audience? The encore, if you can call it that, was hilarious: MES and a couple of band members saunter back onto the stage. MES growls something into the mic along lines of 'Thanks for allowing us into your security area, we're going back to civilization'. MES leaves the building. Brilliant. A total one-off.
pablozewoppa Well let's 'Hit the North' for old times sake. He shook your hand? Lucky you! He was in a wheelchair for some of that Glasgow gig, but got up a few times to twiddle with the knobs.... He will be so missed. God love the old nutter ...
Remember The Falls classi No Bulbs from 1984, well i have just made a fan video, please check it out here ua-cam.com/video/O7uTldnOqdo/v-deo.html
Just brilliant. Since his passing I have listened to nothing else but The Fall. What a body of work we have been left with. Thanks Mark, hope you are sleeping peacefully...no chance!!
Hi please can you help what is the title of the song with lyrics ' I said hello you are messing up the pavements?' Driving me crazy
@@katywwest8042 , I think you mean "And sometimes they say 'Hey Mark you're spoiling all the paintwork'" If so "Paintwork" from This Nation's Saving Grace
peacefully? no fucking chance. :)
Mark E Smith
A PURE GENIUS !
This is my favourite track of his & the video brings back memories of life growing up in the North West....
If this is your favourite Fall track I fucking despair.
@@noyoureafuckintube what the f*cks your problem, if you have nothing positive to say, say nothing, you just come across a prick !
My Fave track too x
@@PaganPunk Your obviously a girl of good taste x
I agree... but their Kinks cover is a close second for me!
Class tune, great lyrics by Frank Sidebottom.
Frank Sidebottom what
A legend he was
Amazing to think that every single person in this video was a member of The Fall at some point.
And probably most of us watching the video too... And our grannies on bongos!
Even the kids? In that case, truly amazing. Those people drinking in the club too I assume.I never realised that The Fall had so many members, thank you for pointing this out
I just discovered this genius for the first time and I felt the same way I did when I first listened to The Smiths.
that's a mighty statement I too am in love with The Smiths imo the Greatest Band Ever...
MCR so much to answer for!✌️
Manchester forever. In my experience, must be. Much of the music I listen to, enjoy and cherish originates in Manchester.
What? Stuffing daffodils (Jonquilles if you are Canadian French or a Fall Fan) up my arse we make me a big fanny?
@@andrewholburn3094 you know fine well he stuck them in his back pockets but if you think that way which you obviously do, what do you stick up yours?
Welcome. Now go listen to Hex Enduction Hour!! Actually Dragnet. No Perverted by... No This Nations.. Oh, all of them!
Released in October 1987 in the UK and still a fine tune from a weak Fall line up.
Haven't heard this in well over thirty years, and it just popped into my head, thanks UA-cam!
Got here via some Ripley's believe it or not, reading comments...... Been so long since I've heard this.
Classic song ! Love it !
Rose to the Doctor: "If you're an alien, how come you sound like you come from the North?" Doctor: "Lots of planets have a North"
It never fails to surprise me ,how as I get older my musical pallet develops a hankering for brilliance ,this is a distinctive taste like liver you hate it or love it ,as I get older I get cooler ,It's music that's relevant today and that's the art of geniuses like mark e Smith,
Fukin awesome this track is only track i have ever heard in 2 years of this band and saw that on mtv.
2:45 Brix dancing is something
I'm in total shock, that Mark lived as long as he did.
RIP Mark E Smith, you fucking legend. Xx
You fuckwitt, you’re so right. An unsung hero from the Madchester era.
A typical Mark quotation Ha Ha.

This was the song that finally got me into The Fall back in the day. Still one of my favourites of the band.
My favourite fall song from back in the day. Came here to give it a listen when I heard Mark e Smith passed away. Rest in peace
This should have been a big hit
not bad at all
The world needed at least one super happy poppy Fall video!
I LOVE THE FALL..too young to appreciate then as a child of 73. But 47 years later wow total appreciation. Got many albums now.
1987 walking up Oxford Rd. A rainy Wednesday night in November. Going to The Ritz....Hit The North !
A great song, even has my home town on it. Your passing is sad Mark E Smith. R.I.P.
Quintessential Fall song. Quintessential Fall video. And Dr Martha. Saw 'em in '98, so I can die happy.
Listen this in 2022
Still a very cool track 😎....MES thanks for the Musik 👌👍
I discovered this band when I watched the movie Last night in Soho. I wish I would have discovered The Fall years ago because I love jamming to them. The start of Ghost in my house pops into my head at least once a week
RIP MarkESmith Thank you for the music!
Desde México escuchado The Fall
Descanse en paz Mark E Smith
RIP Mark E Smith, The Fall were so ahead of their time
Turn this into a RIP ahead of their time thread!
Trish Keenan RIP

The Twilight Zone.
still are
They weren't ahead of thier time. They were very much of thier time. They just didn't fit into categories.
Sadly no longer in session. Thanks for contributing to my youth.
What a great single, love it 😍
Rest in peace mark , rock & buzz & art holding hands
Some Fall fans think they sold out with this tune. I don't myself, think it's one of the jewels in the Fall crown.
I agree
Great riff on it,
Some Fall fans are bigger tossers than Mark E Smith was 😉
The first 10 seconds alone secure it's place as a fucking cold shit classic
Personally, I started liking The Fall in the last decade, so I'm too new to be in the old crowd.
I just love this song.
I saw the Fall twice before Mark E Smith passed away. Both times, I was really impressed by the talent of the musicians. This song showcases how The Fall always had talented musicians. 🤷🏻♂
R.I.P Mark E Smith......Legend!!
I guess, it was my first concert ever. It was in the late 80 s ...maybe 87. In West Berlin in the Metropol. And it was (one of or maybe) the loudest gig I was visiting.🤩🤣
Bloody brilliant song must have listened to it a thousand times.
Here to in NYC- HIT THE NORTH!
What a sad loser you are .
This is probably the best song in the world.
Brix dances EXACTLY the way you would imagine.
God bless you Mark E Smith, RIP our kid...
My favourite Fall song. So bloody Northern!
Wonderful land 👊
❤
I would love to know the story behind this video. It's great to see all the "extras" having such a great time.
Was shot in a bingo hall
They arrived at midday expecting a couple of old guys at the bar only go find it packed with pensioners enjoying a game of bingo. The compere asked them if they wanted to be in a pop video. Of course they fuckin did 😂. 1-2-3....HIT THE NORTH! 😂
@@randalpmcmurphy1340 Awesome. Part of what's joyfully hilarious about it is that pop culture generally casts old people as the villains who are too square to appreciate "cool new music."
Mark finishes more words with "a" than John Lydon
Long Life The Gritt Of Northern
England ✊🌠🥃RIP To Mr E Smith
🧐🤯🤪🚬🍺Epic Track This 👍
The Fall will live forever x
A true hidden gem of our time.
A full 3/4 of the time I don't get his references in his songs but he always persuades me of the absolute importance of whatever he's talk-singing. I got to see the Fall only once at the Trocadero in Chinatown in Philadelphia 1993. An absolute original!
This was my first encounter with The Fall. My Nan had MTV and I would ride 7 miles on my bike, carrying the VCR to record MTV Europe's 120 minutes with Paul King, every sunday..
I'm old, lol!
Omg, I remember MTV Europe. Smashing stuff :)
Shit, I meant to write I remember MTV Europe 120 minutes!
@@PS-kg1sr You’re not wrong, it wasn’t every Sunday
I love this song for its genius and also think King made some great music. Is that allowed? I hope so.
Me too man!!!!!
Talked about this one at a quite gentrified place in Germany. 2022 A.D.
1988 songs are elite!!!
how cool is this vid? Brix and Mark; a beautiful creative light and shade.
Love The Fall!!!
Songs like this make me glad for different and weird people.
Northern.

This song will always remind me of when I literally hit The North - went to university in Durham! Rest in peace Mark E Smith you crazy genius, and thank you for the great times.
I bought it in the year it was released. First time watching the video in 2020.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Love brixs dance here
Brix really did make the best of the Fall, loved the early stuff but loved her even more
I’ve told the wife.. I want this played at my funeral...😬😬
Good choice Ian. I'm a southerner & I'm having, "Birth, school, work, death" by the GOdfathers when I pop my clogs
I was going out for a pint in my local when I found out Mark e smith had passed one of the guest beers was Joseph holts two hoots, in his honour I drank several cheers Mark The North will rise again!
Great song. Love the big audio dynamite sound to it
I wouldn't let MES hear that if I were you...🤔
He would kick me straight in the balls🤣
Just been Southport this song was on my mind the whole time.
Same here, sort of. I went to Ormskirk hospital today, and thought of Ormifkirk, like it is on this map. Skem isn't, though, which I quite understand as Fkemlerfdale would be too weird.
Jimmy Tarbuck, Les Dawson, Bernard Manning.... HIT THE NORTH. Awesome song, relentless background rhythm
Brix with the dance moves!
Brix…🔥🔥🔥
I was obsessed with this song
what a sound !
Great song and great video. Brix is just so fantastic!!
celebrating the glorious countryside of greater manchester and urban lancashire, the fall do their bit for regional tourism.

Always dreamed a black-metal supergroup would form only to cover this song under the moniker "hit the grim and frostbitten North".
Brix's Badger Phase.
Laura Elise Smith was given the name Brix E. Smith because she adored The Clash song The Guns of Brixton!

Yes Sir!
I used to quite fancy MES in this era, I was about 13 in 87/88. He looked a bit like the bad lads at school 😍
He got that kind of "scally" face to him.
Frank Sidebottom did THE definitive version of this song. Mark E Smith even said so, you know he did, he really did.
Yeah, thank's for that. I had to check it out then ended up in 'down the rabbit hole' of Frank Sidebottom on UA-cam :)
A Classic ! Mark E Smith sound lad ! Love from Dublin ☘️☘️
The 3rd greatest video ever, after Kicker Conspiracy and Wings, in that order
Boris Johnson's favourite fall song.....
the most accesible Fall song. I like the fact it was shot in Blackpool and Brix's funky dance at the end.
One of their best …

So underrated while he was alive (I am also guilty). What amazing music and such a beautiful looking man. XXX
