Congrats!! It's awesome to see you're following your passion!! also relating to the forge part of your name maybe seeing some more smelting attempts would be cool!! I used to do some blacksmithing myself with just a hairdryer and a pit fire, pretty smokey stuff but I was still able to make a few bits and bobs and heat treat some steel!! Best of luck in your future adventures!!

Thank you! I've been meaning to do some more smelting attempts, hopefully I can get to it in time. Blacksmithing is just such an awesome thing, you can craft almost anything. I acquired a rail iron awhile back, maybe I can give it a go with that and a small pit fire....maybe a old hairdryer too haha.

I had not even thought of the caves they might have, good to know and something I will look into. Thanks!

Hope you don't mind indulging my curiosity: Did you consider the University of Alaska?

I did yes. I got a maybe answer that they would have some project for me. So I decided to not apply. Kansas and Iceland are the only two places out of the rest that I got accepted into.

@@GeoForge I appreciate that you took the time to reply. I asked because I knew that the UofA at Fairbanks had a great Geophysical Institution and a very respected Mines Engineering department. Given all the volcanoes on the ring of fire, I thought it might be prominent in the volcanology field as well. Fifty years ago, UA was also a very affordable university, especially for state residents, which a student staying in the state for a year became--tuition was then free! I have no idea how it compares on costs today.
Enjoy your adventure. I hope you will fare well with your further education and a career to follow!
